Great Location
Great location. Quite a hike up to the 3rd floor of the building - 68 steps and no elevator. Overall the room was clean and neat but average. Most of the staff were friendly and most spoke english. Breakfasts were okay, but the coffee sucked (only brewed coffee - no capacinos).

Charming hotel in a great location
I was looking for a hotel near San Marcus Square, but didn't want to pay over $300 a night. This hotel next to the Rialto Bridge was a perfect alternative. It was near a water bus station and within walking distance of a lot of the sites. We had an attic room that was long and narrow, but a great escape from the hustle and bustle of Venice. The hotel only has 11 rooms and feels like you are staying at your grandmother's house (cozy). They also offered a decent breakfast and free wifi! The only consideration would be if you can't climb stairs. It was a 88 stairs to get to my room (yes, I counted). No one occupies the first floor in Venice because of winter flooding, so I don't think the stairs are that big of a deal, just be prepared. Also, you have to ring the door bell and then someone will buzz you in. Registration is at the top of the stairs.

Do a gondola ride first thing in the morning. It's peaceful, not crowded and less expensive. Gondola rides in the evening are more expensive, but more popular. I know it seems romantic to do a gondola ride in the evening, but it's crowded and looses the romance when your gondola person is trying to navigate around several other gondola drivers. The peacefulness and solitude of the a.m. is also romantic.

The Hotel was a Joke for the money
We stayed at the hotel which was centrally located near the realto bridge. The beds are horrible, rooms had a bad odor. most importantly if you are traveling with a senior think twice, there is no elevator, one has to climb 4 steep floors. I will never go back to this hotel

Anniversary celebration
Hotel was nice, great location, it was hard to find, we walked and walked thought we will never get there. Our room had two twin beds in it, personally it was about as big as my masterbedroom closet in Houston, but hey this is Europe, The a/c could have been better, we got up every night and just couldnt get the room cooler. Breakfast was ok, they dont replenish the food right away, but again hey this is Europe.... the owners were great they had recommended several local restaurants to us, so we could avoid the crowd and have a special meal and night to ourselves. The steps? well there is 70 oops no I stand corrected there are 69 steps to climb to get to the reservations desk, and your room.. Again this Europe. We had a great time, and would go back, but would request a larger room..

Great Hotel
Probably my favorite hotel out of the 10 or so we stayed in in Europe. Great atmosphere - right on the grand canal. Fantastic breakfast buffet too. Just be aware that you will have to drag your luggage up 4 flights of stairs to the lobby.

The fussy budget traveler
Great location / excellent room
Excellent choice for those with champagne tastes traveling on a budget. It was easy to reach by vaporetto (public boat)and located on the Grand Canal in the old market area of Venice. Make sure to call the hotel and have them advise you on where to park (if you are driving) and the best way to reach them via vaporetto. Don't bother with the very high expense of a water taxi if you have bags with wheels as it's a very short walk from the public boat stop. The hotel is small and quaint as well as very conveniently located for all activities (lots of shopping) and access to other areas of Venice. Just be prepared as it's a very crowded tourist area. The rooms are very nicely done with venetian glass chandeliers, reproduction period furniture and walls/chairs/bedding covered and coordinated with beautiful fabric - first class. The view of the Grand Canal (make sure you get a room with a view)and beautiful room made the climb up the stairs worth it! So now the stairs...the only significant negative for many travelers will be that you must climb (with your bags) up approx. 68 stairs (four flights I believe)to reach the lobby and rooms. We enjoyed the exercise since we were eating our way through Italy but it obviously may not work for some travelers. Customer service was average and their free breakfast buffet was a minimal effort lacking variety as compared to many other places we stayed in Italia throughout our travels. All in all, this hotel was a great value and we would highly recommend it to our friends that can make it up the stairs!

Getting in and out of Venice is challenging (and can be unnecessarily expensive) if you've never done it before. Call the hotel and research access before you arrive.

We loved this hotel!
This was just how I pictured Venice! The hotel was in a great location, yet still quiet and peaceful. We explored much of the city on foot and in the Vaporettos.

Prime location
Antica Locanda Sturion was a great hotel for our two night stay in Venice. The location was perfect - right in the middle of everything and easy to access by the boat taxi from the train station. Unfortunately, you do have to get off the boat taxi and haul your luggage over the Rialto Bridge (stairs) to get to the hotel, but it's not a very long walk. Getting up the stairs in the hotel is a real challenge, especially with luggage or after a long day of sight seeing. Venice was unusually hot when we were there, so that made it even worse. But, the hotel it self was perfectly comfortable and cool. We had a small room that did not have a particularly great view, but I could tell that the rooms that faced the Grand Canal must have had a wonderful view - as did the breakfast room. I was pleased by the large and comfortable bathroom. The hotel does not have many added amenities, but breakfast was pleasant and filling and the staff was very friendly.

Dining tip:
Short walk from hotel
The dining experience on the Grand Canal near the hotel (Rialto Bridge) is not worth the money. Sure, the view is nice, but the seating or cover charge, plus service charge, plus cost of food and wine and the attitude of the wait staff is not worth it. It's not the right place for a leisurely, romantic dinner. Look for charming restaurants that aren't in such a popular area. Shopping in that area is expensive too.
