Traditional Venecian Comfort

Hotel is in great location. Quick wallk from train station. Hotel is very clean and in quiet area also close to water bus landing. Unfortunately today and yesterday the water busses were on strike so we put on many miles walking over 80% of the Island. It almost seemed like a blessing because it forced us to go out of our way and say many of the bueatiful museams and churches off he beaten path. The hotel staff was friendly and helpful. Only wish was that wireless was available in rooms and not mjust in the bar area. Staye here many years ago and would definately stay here again. Ciao BABY!

Many of the shops have the same items but prices range greatly. If your not in a hurry, mark the shops where you found the goods you liked and look around for similiar items in less pupulated areas. We saved up to 70%.

Old World Charm right on the Grand Canal

Had a wonderful stay that the hotel. The location was at the far end of the grand Canal, but right across from the Train Station, the Port and a Water Bus Stop. Our room had a window that faced the inner courtyard of the building so the view was of nothing. The room itself was kinda old in style, but everything worked and was clean and did us just fine for a single night stay before getting on a cruise ship. The building had a nice roof top deck with full bar and food service. We had a night cap up there and it was very peaceful.

Value for Money

Carlton on the Grand is indeed Grand. Overlooking the famous Grand Canal, it has original features and stunning gold/cream decor, several lifts available, staff very accommodating and friendly, 5star quality. Rooms overlooking the canal are obviously more busy, courtyard rooms are quieter. If you don't have the latter, there is the added bonus of Rooftop dining overlooking the Canal on the 4th floor. Whilst they wont guarantee certain rooms, they do make an effort to accommodate. Room 452 on the 4th floor was exceptional, spacious, clean, venetian decor, bath, shower, safe and a large private roof garden to bask under the sun. The wifi only worked 2 out of the 4 days, but not a big issue, several hotspots around the hotel. The built-in blackout blinds are a bonus as they allow you to sleep uninterrupted by the bright early morning sun. Smoking is allowed in some parts of the Hotel, something Brits are not used to. Located 5mins from the bus terminal, and across the road from the train station, Gondola station, waterbus and shops. A bus from Treviso Airport costs 8 Euros, which takes 50mins. Travel light and avoid lugging heavy luggage over many of the 400 bridges in Venice. Hotel is easy to find and hard to get lost. The Venice map is hard to read, but follow the Grand Canal and you cant go wrong. Not a boys holiday destination, and little kids will struggle, so take a boat out to the lovely Lido beach for child friendly action, take a walk over to San Marco and the Basilica, but get there early, as queues are long. The Gondolas located outside the hotel are expensive, but something you just have to do, when in Rome..... Came here as a surprise 40th birthday trip for the girlfriend, she absolutely loved it. If there was no airline baggage restrictions she would have come back with several handbags. Highly recommended.

Just right

Spent 3 nights at this hotel and found it comfortable and the staff very welcoming. Great breakfast included. Perfect spot for picking up the water bus. Don't be put off by the fact that the train station is opposite on the other side of the canal, we were canal facing and didn't hear a single train.

Terrific Hotel

This is a beautiful hotel right on the Grand Canal and close to the Piazza Roma where the buses to the airports arrive and depart. The rooms are comfortable although the mattresses were not as comfortable as some were on our trip. Our room rate included breakfast which is always a plus. The staff were pleasant and very helpful and always professional. I would absolutely stay here again if I have the opportunity to tour Venice again in the future.

Sightseeing tip: Short walk from hotel

The hotel is close to the Piazza Roma where we could purchase boat bus passes, as well as arrange skip the line tours, hop on the boat bus, and arrange transportation to the airport. There were a lot of little restaurants down the side streets that were less expensive than on the Canal.

Great location, descent hotel

First of all, the location doesn't get any better. It is steps away from the train station. The room itself was teeny tiny, but clean and relatively comfortable. When we checked in (at the stated time), we were told that we'd have to wait about 30 minutes for our room to be ready. We waited about 20 minutes, but we were in a hurry to get to a reservation, so we asked on an update and they told us it'd be another hour. When they saw that this kind of annoyed me, they tried to give us another room, which also wasn't ready, and eventually gave us an upgraded, bigger room overlooking the water. It was a more expensive room and you could tell that they really weren't excited about giving it away at first, but they did it anyway, which I appreciated. The room overlooking the water was pretty awesome.
