Clean and Friendly (but tight for three people)
Several things to like about this hotel - right across the street from the metro made it very convenient, the room was very clean and the staff was friendly and helpful. I was travelling with two teenagers and the 3- person room was basically all beds. Workable for the one-night stay we used it but not for long-term. Really appreciated the free WiFi!

Clean, but that's all. Slow elevator.
Clean, but that's all. Slow elevator. No working computer; no WiFi. Overcrowded basement breakfast room with no available table. Faulty fire and smoke alarm disturbing to guests. Shower with no consistent hot or cold. In short, needs remodeling with modern equipment and more professional staffing.

Expensive for what it is
The hotel is expensive for what it is, the staff is not exactly helpful and sometimes it even seemed as if there was no one in the front desk. We had a problem with our security box as it was broken and were told by the front desk guy(after giving in cash a 30 euros deposit) that since he was the only staff member in the hotel at nights it was impossible for him to leave the front desk and help us with our problem so we would have to wait until someone on the next shift could help. The hotel itself was not very clean and the cleaning staff didn't do a good job either, seemed to me as they cleaned when they wanted. We had to leave our key everytime we went out, even if it was only to cross the street and buy a coke. Overall it was good to sleep and that's it. It has the Volontaires Metro Station right in front which was excellent and very convenient, metro is not a recomendable option if you are traveling from the airport with heavy luggage, believe me, it is a nightmare! Overall I would not stay in this hotel again, it was expensive for what it is.

1st time to Paris
I was worried before we arrived that the room would not be good but was pleasantly surprised for several reasons. First when we got off the metro late and saw the hotel was right across the street from the metro stop our tiring day of travel seemed to disappear. This was extremely convenient throughout our stay because the metro is very easy to use to get anywhere. The room was clean and the bathroom modern. We really liked this hotel! Be careful there are some hidden expenses if not careful like the mini bar and breakfast. We mistakenly thought breakfast was included the first day - not 100% sure it was worth 14 Euros per person but it was convenient. There is a grocery store around the corner that was open late (at least past midnight) for snacks and drinks and there are several cafes and patisseries around the corner that might be more worthwhile. There was also a drugstore around the corner! Super place and value for the money!

Definitely get the metro pass - super easy and worthwhile. Not sure th e museum pass is worth it because kids under 18 are free most of the time anyway and the entrance fees are not pricey. I don't think we got our money's worth from the museum pass and would not do it again.

Hotel is under remodeling (Jan 11 2010)
Good location, right on the other side of the street from a train station. Friendly Staff, However, this hotel was remodeling its restaurant. the smell of paint filled in elevator and lobby, and even in rooms when i arrived (1/11/2010). I had to open the window all the time in my room, and cover my nose in elevator and lobby. Why didn't they just shutdown the hotel during the period? So if you are traveling to Paris before March, stay away from this hotel. after that, it shall be fine..

Clean, Comfortable, and Convenient.
This hotel is literally right in front of a metro stop as well as a bicycle rental station. It has a cafe across the street that has better prices than the hotel offers. The room was small, just big enough to fit the queen size bed, a desk, and a TV. Mini bar was well stocked. The bathroom was clean with good water pressure and temperature. We were able to find a great restaurant to eat every night just walking around the neighborhood. Also, there is parking at a reasonable price at the garage down the street. Overall, nothing fancy but perfect for a couple looking for clean commendations and a great location.

Small but quite fine
Location is good if you want to look around...and the Metro Volontares is just across the street--unbelievably convenient--just wish the hotel had been closer to Montparnasse--staff was great; only downside was the wifi--very expensive and not easy to work with the Orange system in France, but other than that, it is a great little boutique hotel, aside from charging too much for breakfast, but it is not alone in doing that...

Great Stay(our home away from home)
The knowledgeable staff made our stay fun and event filled. The hotel has a breakfast for an extra charge, but we had coffee and croissant from local bakeries and sat in the park nearby. The Hotel Yllen is in a non-tourist neighberhood and is safe at all times of the day and night with several small stores close by and a 24 hour bike station accross the street to rent bikes. The Metro(Volontaires stop on line 12) is literally steps away which makes it fast and easy to get where you are going. One note: the price to take the metro and transfer to a train to get to CDG is 8.60 euro no matter where you are in the "City". Buy your ticket at "Volontaire" head to "Pasture", transfer to line 6 and get off at "Denfert Rochereau" which has access to the "B" train that takes you to CDG. A lot less hassel! Remember to keep you ticket stubb, you need it to exit the train station to get into the airport terminal. Internet is available, but a bit pricey. The staff will look-up museums and other places on request to check times and location(maps). They even confirmed our tour with the tour company.

Great Hotel
This hotel was a great value for the money. It is located about 2 miles away from the main attractions, but there is a subway stop literally across the street. The night manager spoke perfect English and was very helpful. The rooms are large, about the size you would expect in the United States, and the bathrooms are modern. The room was always clean and was quiet at night.
