Great Family Vacation

We upgraded to the Royal Service and it was well worth the additional cost. I went to the GABI every night for steak and lobster prior to going out with the group to another great resturant. The staff was extremely friendly and apprciated us.

Memorial Day 2012

Stayed at Melia for the second time and again had a blast, especially since we had family and friends traveling with us for our wedding. The food and dining options were great, the beach is the best I've seen in DR and the service was very good as well. It is a really huge facility and so the personal touch is one times lost but all in all, it was a great place to vacation.

Family Vacation

The landscaping was beautiful!! However, the resort was huge and we had to take a train mostly everywhere we wanted to go. The advantage is that we were able to get the employees who drove the golf carts to pick us up and drop us off if any were available. The food was ok. The rooms were ok as well. There were times when the temperature of the water in the shower adjusted on its own. For the most part, I enjoyed the vacation, but be aware of the concierge, David. He is extremely friendly, but he uses flattery to get you to attend a timeshare presentation. Of course he mentions free gifts and a welcome breakfast on the beach for all members of the family and he doesn't directly state "timeshare". If you ask, he will assure you that it is not a timeshare, but it is and it takes 90 minutes or more out of your vacation time. Additionally, it is extremely difficult trying to book reservations in some of the restaurants. They tell you that you can only book 24 hours in advance and when you call early in the morning to book it, either they are already full or no one answers the phone. There were many days when we had to get some of the employees to book for us. We also booked an excursion for a safari which was fun and very interesting! If you book with some of the representatives directly from the excursion companies, you will be able to bargain and get a much better deal. I was able to book a $90 excursion for $70 per person.

Perfect Vacation Getaway

My wife and I spent most days at the beach with the exception of breakfast and lunch at one of the resort's excellent buffets. During the evening, we were able to easily make reservations each night to a different restaurant for dinner. Whether it was a buffet or one of the fancier full service restaurants, both offered high quality food and outstanding service. I would be remiss if we didn't mention our excellent waiter, Mr. Jiovel Leboff who waited on us each day for breakfast and lunch at the buffet restaurant by the beach (Grill Restaurant Turey). Melia Tropical is very fortunate to have Mr. Leboff as one of their fine employees and his performance should be an example for others to emulate. The same goes for Mr. Gregorio Decena who is one of your bartenders at Square Bar Lounge along with his team: Manuel Cruz, and Jovanny. They made sure that everyone was happy and went out of their way to make sure their patrons were enjoying their vacation. Our room was clean and made up each day. We always had clean towels and our refrigerator was always stocked with water. The young lady who made all this happen was Lucy. Andrea also did a great job with the upkeep of our room during our last two days of vacation. We have travelled to numerous destinations for vacation and our experience with Melia Tropical has to be one our top picks. The only regret we have is that we couldn't stay longer. My wife and I give Melia Tropical an A+

9yr. Anniversary trip

Beautiful grounds .. The only downfall about it, the resort is so big that if you don't catch the train or see an employee in a golf cart to hitch a ride you need to walk so far for everything. Food was not good at all!!

Not such a good hotel experience

The hotel is beautiful however too spread out. The rooms are soooo far away from the lobby and their shuttle system sucks. Waisted too much time trying to get from one place to another. Management extremelly rude. The safe in my room was broken, the door to the room itself was having problems and was locked out for an hour waiting for staff to come and help. It was my third trip to Punta Cana and the food was very ordinary compared to the Riu hotel. So next family reunion will not happen at the Melia. The staff needs training. It is not a cheap hotel therefore service must be improved.

The buffet is very ordinary. Italian restaurant was good. Thay was terrible. The bartenders at the pool area were very nice. Restaurants by the beach were disgusting so take the shuttle to the buffet istead.
