Not such a good hotel experience

The hotel is beautiful however too spread out. The rooms are soooo far away from the lobby and their shuttle system sucks. Waisted too much time trying to get from one place to another. Management extremelly rude. The safe in my room was broken, the door to the room itself was having problems and was locked out for an hour waiting for staff to come and help. It was my third trip to Punta Cana and the food was very ordinary compared to the Riu hotel. So next family reunion will not happen at the Melia. The staff needs training. It is not a cheap hotel therefore service must be improved.

The buffet is very ordinary. Italian restaurant was good. Thay was terrible. The bartenders at the pool area were very nice. Restaurants by the beach were disgusting so take the shuttle to the buffet istead.

Perfect Vacation

Where to start with such a perfect vacation. My girlfriend and I spent 6 nights at this hotel in April of 2012. Everything from top to bottom was perfect. The room was beautiful and the grounds amazing. The best part of this trip was the staff, the food and the hotel. Eduardo from the entertainment team became very good friends with us throughout the week as we were around the same age. He really made our stay ten times better and always had a smile on his face. All the staff was very friendly and really went above and beyond their duty. The staff at the restaurants were very fast and extremely polite. We were even able to eat at the A la Cart restaurants all six nights no charge when we thought there were only 3 included in the all inclusive. There is a HUGE selection of restaurants all with amazing food. I would recommend Ma Maison the french restaurant. I had the beef filet at a few of the dinners but the one at Ma Maison was by far both my girlfriend and my favorite. The American grill and the Italian restaurant were our next favorites and the steak and lobster place looked amazing however it cost extra. We did not eat at the three buffets for dinner but if it was anything like lunch and breakfast it will not disappoint. Try the pizza for lunch! Very good different style! Any bad review you will read anywhere is only because of regular problems that could happen anywhere to anyone at any hotel. Try to get a room closer to the beach and pools. We were in villa 27 and it was perfect walk to beach and pools. If you are up near the front it is a long walk unless you grab a train. There are also many golf carts driving around and they are usually always happy to give you a lift unless it is a specific cart for the Royal Service. Many Canadians at the resort, all ages fun time for couples in their 20s like us or families and retirees alike. So many different lounges and bars and restaurants all with different activities and a different feel for what ever suits you best. The only thing that I could think to improve would be the lack of WiFi outside of the Royal Service lounge. The internet costs 5 dollars for 15 minutes at the business center however if you wonder over to the Paradisus which is right next door and under the same ownership, you are able to pick up there free WiFi sometimes even from the beach.

Book excursions at the front lobby. The Sea Aquarium sea walk trip was great!! 95 dollars well worth it. Meet a sea lion, walk on the floor of the ocean with oxygen helmets, swim with sharks, sting rays and fish. See dolphins and enjoy a relaxing cruise on catamaran while enjoying dancing music and beverages. 20 minute drive from hotel and was the best of all the excursions we tried and from what we heard from others.

Melia Tropical

The restaurants were adequate with the exceptional of a couple (La Hacienda, The Gabi, The Italian) those were fantastic. The authentic Dominican restaurant was terrible. We had VIP so expecting a fantastic room was well... expected. The room was large and well expected, however the second night in we found a HUGE cockroach and ants crawling around IN the room. We would not go here again because it wasn't all THAT especially with the extra couple grand spent for "VIP." Room Service was exceptional however, but limited menu.
