Okay for the money

The location was great, only 15 minutes from the hotel but that's about it. There wasn't anything that stood out as amazing at this hotel. The casino was lackluster and the food wasn't that great. They had 4 specialty restaurants but only one of them had great food. Overall, it was okay but I wouldn't go back.

Catalonia Bavaro

WONDERFUL!! This was an amazing place with fantastic people! The food was good, beach and pool were perfect, and the drinks were awesome (and flowing). The staff cannot be any friendlier or helpful. The only negative thing I can think of was that the pillows need to be replaced, so bring your own. The bed was very comfy and the bathroom had a HUGE tub.

Great first choice!

We had such a perfect vacation, everything went smooth. There is lots of room for a walk, beautiful trees and flowers, nice beach. Couple small things that could be better: pillows and the mattress were too hard, and there was no person to great us on arrival, we didn't know much about the place the first day til we explore it ourselves. Otherwise, we loved everything else and we will come back the next year.

Super Holiday!

What is nice about it, is that the hotel is not one big compex, it is over 20 seperate villas, so it feels way more open and big. The beach is just beautiful, as in your imagination of the carrebbean; white sand, palm trees and bright, blue water. The only disturbing thing are the excursions sellers, they are prettty annoing and theres is a lot of them. Nevertheless the excursions itself are worth to do them!! (but expensive) The food offer is just amazing, in the two buffet restaurants you have so much choice that you stand there and don´t know what to eat... and that for breakfast, lunch and dinner. The bar offer is very good, too and the cocktails are super. Sometimes however, there is not everything available, more than every second day they are out of tomato juice at 7pm for example, so after that there is no bloody mary. The animatiopn team is great, there is pretty much everything every day, aerobic, beach soccer, volleyball,... and even free language and dance courses and painting lessons right at the beach.

Really a 2 star

How this place received 4 stars is beyond me. The reviews must be from their own people. I stayed for 4 days. My room is on the left side and not the "VIP" right side. Other than the luscious ground scenery, beach with its smooth white sand and clean water and pool there's really not much to like here. My shower had a huge 2" size cockroach. Someone else also said they had a cockroach in there room. We asked to not have the room cleaned but it was. I was bitten 10x by mosquitoes in the room. Night life / dancing / live bands are non-existent. Other than their corny show I went to bed by 11pm. What service? There is no one coming around asking you if you wanted drinks. I had to go to the bar each time. They must have used caramel colored water in their Brand name Rum bottles because I only got a buzz after drinking 4-5 coco loco/pina coladas and I'm a light weight. The gym is pathetic with a few machines. They stated 4 specialty restaurants. The Mexican (food was bad) is next to the Steak House and the Japanese is next to the Italian (OK but they must've forgotten me because I waited 30 mins for pasta?) but never all 4 opened at the same time. Its either 1 or the other. The buffet room & eating area is open so birds would swoop in to peck on food. Its unsanitary and they probably pooped on the food while they ate off them. We saw birds eat off plates from the tables if you got up for something and no one's guarding your food. Servers and activities ppl were nice. Everyone was kind but they lack manpower & service. Met a couple who stayed 7 days and the wife said she couldn't wait to leave and get home. Who says that on vacay? For the price I paid I definitely can get better service and entertainment elsewhere. I'll be back in DR but never to this hotel.

Beautiful Resort for Good $$$

When my husband and I first got there we were greeted by drinks and told to leave our luggage out from while a staff member watched over them. We then went to the bar to kill some time before check in. Being our first time in Punta Cana we agreed that we wouldn't leave the resort, but being there for 7 nights, you just have to. So we booked 2 excursions with our representative in the lobby and went zip lining and rode the boogie carts. The zip line was beautiful and amazing. The boogie cars was awesome. We rode for a while then rode into a private beach, Playa Juanillo, and were able to swim for about 30 minutes, then rode back on the boogies and rode to a cave which we hiked to get into and were able to swim in its' natural water. The excursions were amazing and we had a blast. The staff at the resort is awesome and super helpful and pleasant. I could not complain about any of them. Especially their animation team, which consists of a group of young staff who are always happy and helpful. Our favorite staff from that group was Spaghetti and Big Momma. They were hilarious and made our stay much more enjoyable. The only negative was the food, it wasn't that great and there wasn't really much flavor in them. Out of the 4 themed restaurants, the hibachi was the best. The drinks are good, but not enough alcohol in them, so we would tip the bartenders and they would always hook us up until we left. I recommend this resort for first timers because it is beautiful and the staff is really nice. Don't go there for the amazing food because you won't find it there. Overall it was a good bargain and a good time because the staff was amazing.

I was disappointed

I was disappointed because I had to ask more than 6 times before someone brought me water. The brochure said that Catalonia would provide a daily refill on the room refrigerator. I did not ask for neither soda nor beer, I just wanted water. I was told that I will get two 16oz bottle of water for me and my wife every other day, Can you believe that, two adults get one 16oz bottle of water every other day. I went to Punta Cana to enjoy my time and my vacation but not going every day to the front desk to argue over a bottle of water. I have been to Punta Cana 4 times, this was the worst experience. Also, I did not like that if you pay extra, you can be a privilege guest, have a special dinning room, don’t have to wait on line for the a la card restaurant, it made me feel as a third class citizen that was treated different from the privilege guest. I understand if you pay extra to get better room and better location, but to go in front of another guest who is been waiting for long time, this is not acceptable.

Excellent Getaway

Yes. Yes. And Yes. We have a fantastic vacation in Punta Cana. The staff here was incredibly helpful when we asked for anything, and the resort is huge! There are a few too many folks trying to sell excursions on while we relaxed on the beach (approaced a few times each day), but otherwise this was a wonderful vacation. There's a bar on the beach, in the pool, and at the lobby. There are four or five different restaurants, and several other places to grab a bite. There are also tons of people from all corners of the world (US, Canada, France, Croatia, Russia, and more). We had a great time meeting people!
