It was just "OK"
Hotel was just "ok" nothing special. Unfortunatly for being an all adult resort it was boring. They do play some games but not very often. The least they could do is play upbeat music all day but that didn't happen either. We still had fun but we had to make it ourselves. Half the items in the room did not work properly. The phone didn't work and was never fixed. The water pressure was completely horrible. If you are looking for a great, exciting time with entertainment this is not the place to go... Good Luck

THE RESORT IS BEAUTFIUL. EVERYONE IS VERY HELPFUL AND FRIENDLY WITH THE EXCEPTION OF ONE PARTICULAR PERSON NAMED [...]. WE ARRIVED AT THE RESORT THURSDAY ABOUT 4PM AND WERE TOLD TO MEET WITH [...] THE NEXT MORNING. FOR THE MEANTIME WE WALKED AROUND AND WENT TO THE DESK THAT WAS SET UP FOR EXCURSIONS AND WE BOUGHT THE WATERFALL EXCURSION AND SET UP OUR RESERVATIONS FOR THE DOLPHIN SWIM. THE NEXT DAY, WHICH WAS FRIDAY MORNING WE SEE [...] AND TELL HIM THAT WE WERE LEAVING TO OUR DOLPHIN SWIM AND HE RUDELY WALKED AWAY. ON SUNDAY WE WENT TO FIND OUT HOW TO SET UP PICK UP FOR THE AIRPORT SINCE WE WERE LEAVING MONDAY AND [...] TELLS US TO GO ASK THE GUY WHO HELPED US WITH THE EXCURSIONS AND HE ONCE AGAIN RUDELY WALKS AWAY... OTHER THEN [...] THE RESORT AND STAFF IS AMAZING AND I WOULD DEFINITELY RECOMMEND IT BUT DO NOT MEET WITH [...]....

Great friendly smiling staff
Great people work here, even employees passing on the street will smile and say "Hola". Service with a smile from the housekeepers to the restaurant staff. Your empty plate is quickly removed from the table, refills of coffee or water are quick. Grounds well-maintained, they even repainted the red sidewalk while we were there. Clean. Walkway to ocean passes thru a narrow lagoon area, leading to 2 of their restaurants on the beach, which has many tiki huts for shade. Bring 1 pair of long pants; I didn't and shut myself out of 2 restaurants because of it. Bike ride at 10am if u want it.Great honeymoon place. Food was good. Outside the cab fares are expensive and you will pay the gringo prices if you don't say anything;POP airport fare should be $25...don't pay $35. I don't stay at many hotels so if you are finicky you may find something wrong, but I loved it.

Short drive from hotel
Coco Bongo is a disco short 100yd walk from Hotel in the nearby Playa Dorada Mall. Copa (i think)is the name of a disco a short drive away with some locals and tourists, and an adjacent small casino. Single guys can go to the Crystal and Boin(spelling prob wrong)for some beers and dancing.

perfectly fine for a relaxing short stay
Whatever other reviews say, Bluebay Villas Doradas is a great place. We spent 5 nights in February 2011 and had a wonderful, relaxing time at the resort. The grounds are very clean and well maintained, same for the beach. You can walk along the water for miles on both sides. The water was warm. We used the free kayaks, we did the yoga classes on the beach and rode bikes along the local roads. I was able to swim laps in the pool. (there are two). Yes, many of the staff try to sell vacation clubs, excursions, etc but a firm "no thank you" was enough for them to leave us alone. Same for the sellers walking along the beach. Otherwise the resort personnel is working very hard to accommodate the guests. Tipping helps. Bring plenty of $1 bills (and $5 if you can be more generous) otherwise we did not spend any money. About the food: the main open air buffet style restaurant has so much choice -including healthy and vegetarian ones. The food was fresh and conditions were sanitary. (I was more worried about some guests forgetting to follow common sense sanitary manners at times!) We drank the filtered water offered at the table and did not get sick. We made two reservations for the included Asian fusion and fish restaurants which are on the premise. There you choose from a menu. Food and service were adequate not fantastic. Yes, I agree the wine selection is rather non existent but does one really travel to the Dominican Republic expecting good wine? I drank the Italian white wine which was ok. I tried a couple of the exotic drinks but there were too sweet and tasted diluted. The local beer Presidente, i thought, was a better choice overall. In the small shopping plaza nearby, there is a liquor store where you can buy whatever you wish if you have to have it. About the room: The first one we had was near the night time entertainment (noisy until about 11PM.) We asked for a quieter place and were given a new room the next day. The king size bed was comfortable. The rooms are simple but adequate. I was surprised there is no screen to protect from mosquitoes. About the entertainment at night: There were orchestras, DJ, dancers, games, etc. Yes, some is corny but you don't have to participate but it still attracted big crowds every night. I think it was just nice to sit outside under the stars in mild temperature while up North it is still winter! My boyfriend and I are considering going back to the same place next year. Why go through the whole research if we had a good time here?

Bluebay Villas Doradas
We enjoyed our stay at Bluebay. The grounds were beautiful, clean and well maintained. The pools were great and the entertainment staff was great. The food was better than where we stayed last year. We ate at all the a la carte restaurants and in the buffet..all were good though not what we'd get at home in a pricey restaurant. The beach was nice and the venders were not really annoying if you just let them walk by or said no thank you. We had stayed in Punta Cana last year, though and we definitely liked the beach better there. Bluebay Villas are on a bay and the beach really got no waves, so if you like calm water it's ok. The rooms are not as nice as others we have stayed at in the DR. The first night we were in a tiny room with 2 double (not queen) beds pushed together, despite having paid extra for a 'standard plus' room. The bathroom was updated but also small. The 'balcony' had no access from the room so you had to walk out the door and around to get to it...this isn't what I'd call a balcony. We were told there were no other rooms even if we wanted to pay to upgrade to a suite but to check back the next day which we did. The next day we were moved to bigger room with 1 king bed...much better, but still very stark. no chairs, no dressers, no loveseat of couch to sit on. This room had no balcony so it was probably classified as a 'standard' room even though we thought it was much better than the first one. We didn't get a refund on the difference in cost. We also had poor housekeeping service...twice we had no towels left in the room, we never got the nightly turndown or the daily Bluebay news left in the room, and the 2 glasses int he room were never replaced with clean ones. Overall the visit was good but the rooms and housekeeping could be improved!

Not as good as it sounds
The rooms were hardly of the highest quality. We had 2 beds instead of a king and they constantly separated. We had no hair dryer and they were unable to provide one. I asked for an ashtray for my smoking room for 5 days in a row & finally bought my own. The food was okay. The staff was friendly. However, we had several issues that were going to get taken care of, then nothing happened (as mentioned above plus other requests for necessary items). Trying to lay out at the beach was more like trying to sleep in a shopping mall. Too many vendors leading to too much noise. A Vacation Club guy actually argued with me, telling me the problems with my room wouldn't have happened if I had upgraded & became a VIP. By the end of our 10 days, we left thinking the owners prefer to cater to Vacation Club Members and not just regular people like us. We even had to wear special bands that identified us as first timers who booked on the internet! Repeat customers got a different band than the VIPs also. They should cater a little more to first timers so that maybe they would actually become repeat customers.

Great place for the money
We were greeted with a glass of ice tea and a cool wash cloth when we got there. When we entered our room, it was pretty good. The problem was with the bathroom. You could tell that remodeling had been don in there, but half-heartedly. Water from the upstairs shower would rain down on us if we were in the bathroom at the same time. The buffet was good, with fresh fruit at every meal. We especially enjoyed the pasta that was cooked to order with whatever you give them in a red or a white sauce. We requested another room, and we were not only put near our friends away from the main pool (which was good), but also had a room upgrade with a balcony.Swim up bar was nice, just wish it was deeper. The bartender Roque, ("[...]), was magnificent. Always had your drink ready for you, knew your name, joked with you, absolutely great guy. We tipped well, but he would have gave you the same level of service regardless. The restaurants were nice. The Jade was nice, and food was good. We really enjoyed the food, staff and setting on the beach. We were able to go a few extra times, and even some late night snacks, and the guys were terrific. Again, a little tipping guys a long way. We always tipped big the first day or two, and then a little something every other day. Nothing crazy, just like $20 USD the first day, and $5-$10 USD the other days. These guys bust their butts, and what we consider little, goes a long way for these guys. The hotel staff on average make more than a doctor in their country. The zip-line excursion was a lot of fun, as well as the Santo Domingo tour. Jewelry and fresh cigars could have been bought for a decent price. Tour buses had very little A/C, as well as the Brugal rum factory tour, so if you don't like long rides on a hot bus, try something else.Overall a pretty mellow place. We were a group of 6 that are usually pretty energetic and loud, so if thats you, you might want to try some place else. Luckily, there were a group of Canadians there that were louder than us, so we got a long great with them, much to the chagrin of others.Words of wisdom, drink plenty of water if you're drinking in the sun all day. My wife wasn't, and passed out right before we left for an excursion. There is a medical clinic a block away from the hotel which was extremely helpful, clean, had a/c and took great care of her. Big thanks to those guys.

Overall good experience
The staff were very friendly and accommodating and the resort and restaurants are nice and clean. The room was barely average, and did not look like it had been renovated in a long time, maybe the more expensive rooms are nicer. The complex itself is nicely laid out, and you don't get that lost-in-the-big-hotel-shuffle feel. Pools are very nice, grounds well manicured and a nice beach. Disappointing that you are only allowed to eat 3 times in one week at the 3 a la carte restaurants, even though they were mostly empty every time we were there or walked past. The entertainment is severely lacking, and most definitely needs improvement. The vendors on the beach were more entertaining! Alcoholic drinks were weak and the wine was undrinkable. Overall, a good experience though and would consider going again, but it's not Sandals! Best coffee of any all inclusive I've ever been to.
