    Best in Downtown San Jose

This hotel is located on the main pedestrian street which allows you to explore San Jose and go to all museums without dealing with taxis. The neighborhood has tons of places to eat and shop, but isn't pretty. The room was perfect: tile floors, brand new bathroom, high thread count sheets. The perfect retreat after camping for 10 days in the Central Valley. Staff was lovely and breakfast was delicious.

    Great stay !

We went to Costa Rica for dental service. Our doctor's office is in La Sabana, however we chose to stay at this hotel because of its central location. The hotel is on Central Avenue and from here we could walk to restaurants, central markets, banks, markets, shops and many landmarks. Buses are cheap in San José, and numerous bus stations are nearby. (We frequently took buses to the doctor's office in Sabana for 0.30 USD per person, 30-50 minutes depending on traffic). The hotel is very clean, our room is elegant, beds very comfortable. Bathroom is very tight though. I did not like is the cumbersome sink in the bathroom, which is too big and takes up the whole counter space available. You may have to put your toiletries on the shelf below, almost near the floor. Breakfast is the same every day except for two of the 4 hot choices. Cold choices are good and plenty. Excellent fresh fruit plates: pineapple, watermelon, papaya, cantaloup, honeydew, bananas... The staff is courteous and helpful. Overall it gives a feeling of a boutique hotel. It was under renovation in October 2014.

A special beef soup in Mercado Central : served on a plate with lots of vegetables and accompanied by a bowl of clear stock. I don't know the name of this counter restaurant, but it is on the left once you have entered the Mercado a few step from Avenue Central entrance (skip the enclosed restaurant with high walls). The place is very tight and may intimidate you, the presentation of the food is "bad", but my, the soup is good ! I also took a very good seafood soup there. They are big soup, a whole meal, and they don't look like anything you'll normally find in the US or Canada.

Descent Hotel for the money & location

The Hotel Presidente have me a nice room upgrade, however, there were several times I had to request that the room be cleaned & sometimes it wasn't even after calling so bright it to the attention of the Hotel Manager & they offered 2 shuttle services and that kind of made up for the no room cleaning. However, I do have many friends that live in & around San Jose & when they came to visit me, the secutiy wouldn't allow any non guest to visit you so was very disapointed by that as wasn't aware of it until after checking in. Overall, the Hotel was going thru Renevations during my stay so was very noisy and dirty in lobby area & just a few chairs for my guests who came to visit me so I'd give the Hotel a 3 out of 5 rating only because the room was big & comfortable & the great breakfast. nick33139

Ask about their Hotel rules and make sure your room gets cleaned w/fresh towels everyday because I didn't get that kind of service everyday and no visitors allowed at all, have to sit in a dirty lobby, it was not what I had expected from a supposedly 4 star Hotel with no amenities at all...

    Great central hotel

I had one night in San Jose before flying home and wanted a comfortable central hotel. The Presidente is a great choice - the rooms are big and very comfortable, the location is great right in the pedestrianised area, the breakfast is extensive. I would highly recommend this hotel - if I'm ever in San Jose again, I would not hesitate to stay there again.

great place to stay at San Jose

We only staid 1 night at San Jose. The hotel is located at walking distance of all downtown San Jose as to offer. The street in front of the hotel is a pedestrian street (no car) The hotel is modern, nice bathroom, etc... the best part of the stay is the buffet style breakfast. It was good and inclusive. Parking is tricky, but they well help you. And it's free. Great place to stay.

Mom and 2 tweens felt safe

We arrived via the hotel's shuttle. Driver was easy to find at airport. There was a pharmacy, the square and restaurants within walking distance. The front desk is open air and within locked gates without feeling "caged". We enjoyed people watching from our room window. The bountiful breakfast was such a delight (fresh fruit, breads, pineapple jelly, empanadas, etc. and only the beginning of a perfect Costa Rican travel experience. I will definitely stay here again when returning to San Jose.
