Amazing Hotel & Staff

We had a great experience at this hotel, the staff were amazing, went out of their way to make sure we were looked after.Any concerns we had were looked after at the front desk immediately.Sounds of the Ocean waves, tropical birds calling.Everyone went out of their way, great staff. Took a trip to Pala Verde and saw monkeys, crocodiles, iguanas and birds. This was our first trip to Costa Rica and we will be back!

Best Accomodations and location

We had a great time at this location. Probably the best beachfront access you can find for the money. Great for family stays and relaxation. Personal attention as it is not a very big hotel, and less crowded. Staff is very friendly, and the break fast is La Carte. Will stay there again if possible.

Nice and relaxing

The resort is very quiet and peaceful; enjoyable, but not ideal if young and single. The front desk staff is very friendly and informative. They let us know about the best places to eat, get gas, and nightlife happenings. There isn't really anything to do in Playa Potrero, we drove for at least 20-30 minutes everyday to get to a restaurant, shopping or a nice beach. They do have a beach just beyond the pool area, but it's not a white-sand beach. Overall, the Bahia Del Sol Resort is beautiful with great staff.

Nightlife tip: Short walk from hotel

The Monte Carlo Bar & Restaurant is just outside the front gates of the resort. It has a pretty good house dj that place local music and music that you would hear in a club in the U.S. It also has a pool for the hot Costa Rican nights. Go late, about 11:30pm or midnight. Nothing in Costa Rica starts getting busy until then.

Bahia Del Sol better than most in C.R.

The hotel is in a good location on the pacific coastline of Guanacaste. There are a couple small towns nearby...very small, pretty much just a main street, but a few restaurants and a couple one room markets to pick up some basics for the kitchenette in the room. I suggest traveling back towards Tamarindo for a real supermarket to stock up on supplies...maybe a 15 to 20 minute ride to the first market. After taking the main road into the area, you will travel a dirt road for about a mile to the hotel. In November the road was in good condition. There are other homes and lodges in the area, so you aren't out in the boonies. The hotel has some age on it, you can tell by the rooms, but they are clean. The grounds are very nice. a grassy courtyard area with a pool that leads out beyond a wall to the beach. The sand is dark here, and the beach pretty barren, so at first sight, it appears kind of dirty and desolate. There are fishing boats, and sailboats down the beach a couple hundred yards. We did find however that the water is fine. The look of the sand and beach grows on you the longer you're there, and distant rock formations in the water and the shape of the bay with its tropical foliage once you get off the sand is really very pretty. Sunsets are very nice, with the sunset sky blazing in orange and pink hues off the scattered clouds. They have a nice restaurant and the employees do their best to make it an enjoyable stay for their guests. We ran into a few problems with the room they put us in initially. Bad tv reception, lights burnt out. The toilet wouldn't shut off. these were maintenance items that take away from the experience and make you wonder why you're paying $200 a night for the hotel. We requested a room change the next morning and ended up getting room 310. It was on the second story, two bedroom, 2 bath, with a kitchen, living room, large outside balcony with couches, etc. It was, in my opinion the best room in the place. We were happy after that and enjoyed the stay very much. I will suggest however, that there is a newer small boutique hotel just 10 minutes up the road that we stayed at for one night called Hotel Sugar Beach. There are no kitchens in the rooms, but it is secluded and really a place to remember. Rooms are around $140 and worth it.

Great vacation!!!

It was all I expected. The staff was very friendly, did a great job of making me feel welcome. The beach was secluded and quiet, and being in the edge of a rainforest was pretty neat.

Money-saving tip: Not Applicable

Make arrangements for a rental car before travelling here. It was cheaper than trying to hire taxis or other transportation. this hotel is relatively secluded, so private transport is almost essential if you want to explore the country on your own.

the canopy tour is not to far from the hotel .if you are renting a 4 wheel drive you can make the trip yourself , just the experience going up the mountain is worth the trip and you will save a little money .
