Business trip

Over the years I've stayed in many of W Hotels properties around the world. W Hotel Montreal is no different. Stylish (though not always practical), comfortable, and great location. Service is very personable and always delivers. One issue I had with W Montreal is that there is a nightclub/bar on the premise that is open up to 4 am every Wednesday. I can certainly appreciate a good bar scene but the management should never forget that this is first and foremost a hotel. If they want to add a night club that that should be disclosed. The noise level and the 'bum box' experience was a bit too much though I was at the SPG Gold / Quiet floor.

Nothing special...

Hotel is centrally located. Easy to get around. The hotel staff was rarely available for assistance for recommendations, assistance or directions. They were a bit snobby. It could be because we didn't speak French. Plan on being sell-suffiecent of you stay here.

Location, great staff, contemporary room

The W was centrally located for my experiences in Montreal - can walk or take the Metro with ease; the rooms are contemporary and clean; and the staff are very helpful, courteous and friendly. I stayed at the W last summer and had a positive experence so I returned again this summer (and will return on my next trip to Montreal as well).

Perfect Stay

We could not have been happier with the W Hotel Montreal. My wife and I went to celebrate our 30th Birthdays - It was outstanding, from the friendly greeting as we arrived, to the professional (yet young and hip) front desk staff, to the concierge staff who knew so much that you would have thought they designed the city. The location is, without a doubt, the best that we saw while there. Victoria Square (complete with Metro Stop) is directly in front of the hotel, Old City is a 10 minute walk (which was awesome, because you walk right past the Notre Dame Basilica), and the river is a 6 minute walk. The metro is clean, efficient, and very easy to use. It would have been nice to have complimentary internet access, although I don't think that any of the hotels offer that. If you like BYO (bring your own wine) restaurants and steak, go to Steak Frites – there are several locations, but the one we went to is one block away from the W. Great meal! If you like draft beer/cool pub scene, check out the Burgundy Lion – go to dinner across the street at either Joe Beef or Liverpool, but bring your wallets…well worth it though! DO NOT MISS Garde Manger – my wife and I have been lucky enough to eat meals all throughout Europe (not to mention some great meals in the US), and I can honestly say that the meal that we had at Garde Manger was the best meal of my life (so far!). Make reservations WAY in advance – actually as soon as you book at the W, get in touch with the concierge to have them make a reservation for you! All in all, truly perfect hotel and city experience. Have Fun!

Dining tip: Not Applicable

The people of Montreal tend to eat dinner later than most in the States - make your reservations for 9 or 9:30 to get the best ambiance. Also - most restaurant write their menu's on big chalkboards, and most of them are in French. Don't be afraid to ask someone to translate - everyone in Montreal was extremely friendly! Be prepared to pick your food before you sit down at your table!

W label - again overestimated

the more I stay at hotels like the W - the more I am underwhelmed. The overall hotel is very nice and your room will be as you expect. The W Montreal falls short on basic amenities listed above, though not always important, can be received at similar or greater caliber properties nearby --- the Fairmont, the Westin -- among other chains. I still prefer a smaller run boutique hotel. My room was very dark, situated overlooking an enclosed courtyard with windows facing opposite, so needed to close windows. Room itself clean, comfortable. Overall not a bad stay, just underwhelming. The W 'corporate boutique' increasingly lacks the level of heart, soul and inspiration, offered by smaller boutiques. I just feel like you are getting alot of window dressing at the W and it really doesn't represent value. Since travel is less about the room and more about the experiences, I am unlikely to test the W experience again --- though I have said that before.

The W is really cool!

Very cool operation, smooth, and enjoyable, at times it felt like they tried too hard to be cool and sophisticated, the dim "csi" like lighting was neat at first, but the emphasis on it became a little tiring after a while. The location was excellent and easy to find, we really enjoyed our stay.
