Unique, panoramic Montreal hotel with absinthe bar, dining and pool
The historic, soulful InterContinental Montreal -- in part dating back to 1888 -- is connected to Underground City and near many sites. Standing as the tallest property in the city, panoramic views can be seen from all sides. An absinthe bar with revisited 19th-century decor and a non-ostentatious -- but dazzling -- restaurant serving Provencal cuisine are among the amenities. The InterContinental Montreal also has an on-site fitness center, spa, sauna, steam room and indoor pool as well as a staffed business center.
Highlights
  • Direct access to Underground City and close to highways, Old Montreal and the Montreal Convention Center
  • Renovated property with an absinthe bar and approachable Provencal restaurant
  • Historic, circa 1888 section that hosted luminaries, such as opera singer Enrico Caruso and comedian Sarah Bernhardt
Rooms
The 357 guest rooms at the InterContinental Montreal have one king or two double beds with premium bedding, cable TV, wireless Internet access (fees apply), coffee makers, desks, multiline speakerphones, voice mail. Also available are complimentary weekday newspapers, minibars, individual climate control and in-room safes. Bathrooms feature bathrobes, bathtubs and hair dryers. Some guest rooms at the InterContinental Montreal have dining tables, sofa beds and separate living rooms
Features
The posh InterContinental Montreal can be conveniently accessed from the airport or main highways and is connected to the Underground City. Featuring a historic section dating back to 1888, it has hosted many luminaries over the years. Today, the renovated property holds allures like an absinthe bar with revisited 19th-century decor, a Provencal restaurant, spa and fitness and staffed business centers, plus a pool, sauna and steam room. Standing as the tallest hotel in the city -- a fact that will remain true -- the InterContinental Montreal boasts unrivaled, panoramic city views as well as unique features that include seasonal decor changes. Modern guest rooms have many amenities, ranging from premium bedding to bathrobes and complimentary weekday newspapers.

Nice but pricey . . .

We booked this hotel on a whim at the end of a driving tour of New England, thinking it would be nice to spend a few days in luxury prior to our flight home. And it was - but what we ended up paying was somewhat more than we had anticipated. For a start, there seems to be a hefty tax on Canadian hotel rooms, as well as a significant per diem charge for wi-fi access. The daily rate for parking is also astronomical - but we expected that. However, there was an excellent breakfast deal - a very reasonably-priced and substantial meal for two. Take the deal if it's offered - it may have been a special on this occasion.

Perfect location, perfect in every way.

This was a great hotel. Our corner room was beautiful. Perfectly located in Old Montreal. Walking distance to everything we needed. Restaurant was great in the hotel. Had the best omelette at the breakfast buffet. The salt water pool was really nice and the deck great for relaxing. The only thing that would have made this better would be free wifi in the room. It was available in the lobby which was good but in the room would have been more convenient. Staff was also vey friendly and helpful. Would definitely stay there again.

Not worth the expense

I stayed here for a conference, and it really is only a block to the convention center, which is good. The hotel and rooms are as one would expect for a conference-oriented place. Had a horrible experience with the operator and room service. The operator was RUDE and my room service never showed up despite two additional calls (to check where it was). To be fair, when I brought it to the front desk staff in the morning (something I usually do not do!), the manager tried to help, but since I already had prepaid through the website, didn't have parking, and had meals planned already, he wasn't able to "comp" anything. If I ever go again for a conference in Montreal, I would try the other area hotels.

Great Montreal Hotel

This is truly a four star hotel! With our stay in an executive suite came access to the private club area which included a wonderful continental breakfast and an afternoon happy hour that included free access to drinks and food. The concierge was most helpful. The location was perfect for touring old Montreal.

Merci Montreal

Very nice hotel centrally located around the block from old montreal and the water. The basilica was beautiful so was st. paul street. Hotel bar had very good food. Hotel staff was very helpful and friendly, all spoke english very well. Can't get a better location, the hotel is connected to the world trade center of Montreal which has some shops and great affordable places to eat, also the metro is close by. Marius the bellman was very friendly and helpful with my 80 year old grandmother and ours bags, could not have asked for better hospitality. I would stay here again.

A reasonable choice

I was able to book at a discounted rate, which made the stay affordable. I was in Montreal for a convention at the Convention Center next door, so the location here was perfect The hotel bar and restaurant were fairly expensive, but not exorbitant. The shower never quite got to "hot," though - it was "quite warm" at best.

Girls Trip

This hotel was beautiful, quiet and very clean. The staff were helpful, cheerful and accommodating. The room was spacious and had a great view, the city lights at night was beautiful. From the hotel we had access to the underground and above ground city, shops, restaurants and clubs all within walking distance. The hotel definitely met our expectations, a great compliment to the city!

Clean and spacious,comfortable.

Intercontinetal Hotel will be a great place to rest when as a traveler you need it most. Spacious rooms with a well appointed bathroom is what we all look for. Any hotel that shows a picture of the bathroom on their website has nothing to hide. You won't be disappointed. The concierge were all extremely helpful, and on their behalf, should be tipped.
