A hidden gem
The room was very comfortable with a small kitchen with a fridge, utensils, cooking equipments and espresso machine. There was a leather sofa and flat TV. The bathroom was clean and luxurious. I even considered cancelling the trip to the old montreal and port to spend more time in the room! There's no pool or elevator, which was not an issue to me. The hotel is located in the middle of nice restaurants, bars and stores. The subway station is just a block away, but walking to the old port and chinatown is certainly doable. Valet parking is available at $15 a night, with free in and out, which is reasonable. I had no complaint during my stay.

Romantic getaway
One of the most delightful streets in Montréal is rue St. Denis, extending north from Sherbrooke for an easy 6-8 block walk of charming shops and restaurants of all types. Queen room in this hotel, decorated in white with African print accents, with a little eat-in kitchen, and a large bathroom, was perfect for our wedding anniversary celebration -- and a home base for exploring the area.

Around the corner and a block away on Des Pins (street) is Laloux, a favorite French restaurant of ours for 20 years -- you could be in Paris! Just two blocks up rue St. Denis is the famous, and very discreet, L'Express restaurant which is also open for breakfast (many an ad exec has brought a client here).

Perfect location...great hotel and staff
We found the reviews very positive so decided that this was the place for us and was it ever!! Great location!! Lots of excellent restaurants and shops within walking distance and a very vibrant and cool neighborhood. Driving in the city is always a challenge especially when they seem to dig up streets exactly when you decide to visit but the valet parking was very reasonable and effective. Don't park anywhere but in front no matter what the confusing signs say....you have at least 1/2 an hour to arrange for parking and get your bags dealt with. The staff were very friendly and went out of there way to make sure your visit was perfect and our needs were met...the coffee machines for instance were a challenge but they helped sort that out...little or no street noise, excellent room ambiance....great price....do not stay anywhere else unless you want to pay more for less.

Friendly staff, great service, nice decor, free amenities - an overall pleasant and unique experience, a great alternative to upscale chain hotels (Hilton, Marriott).

Hotel Kutuma,fine but odd
Staff hard to locate and English poor. You have to ring a door buzzer for entry. Waited at least 5 minutes for someone to answer the door at midnight after telling staff that we were going to be late. No elevator. No sound insulation, old building with no modern sound insulation. Luckily small enough that earplugs helped. Decorated with lots of Leopard print and looked good, but coats of dust on bedside tables and empty water bottles and gum wrapper under furniture. Huge bathtub but drain plug did not work so unable to take long, relaxing bath. Room very dark, only window in bathroom,Ok for me as I wanted to sleep only. Overall, I had a good sleep for 2 nights while visiting McGill student child. Details like good dusting and operating bathroom plugs needed. Also phone system not working so unable to receive calls to my room causing increased roaming charges. On a block of St Denis that is pretty ugly but near lots of trendy places.

Great Stay at the Hotel Kutuma
We had a great stay at the Hotel Kutuma. We were visiting my son, a McGill University student, who has an apartment nearby. The decor is unique and the rooms are well appointed. We spent 5 days exploring Monteal on foot, and it was so nice to open the door to the our own oasis, complete with restful music playing to greet us. The front desk is tiny, but they are nice, and even offered my husband and I a free Sunday brunch in the adjoining restaurant as we were checking out.

A well-located gem!
Not only was the hotel clean and lovely, it was interesting! The African theme was done tastefully and with enough whimsy that I found myself photographing the entire room. AND it was well-located. I could walk anywhere from the hotel and it was surrounded by great restaurants. The staff was incredibly helpful and friendly as well. I highly recommend it!

not as I imagined from pictures..
The room was very dark, and poorly renovated. The taps were loose and in backwards, shower curtain did not cover tub area.I didn't feel very safe.It was an ordeal to find any staff,THEN THEY WOULD simply DISAPPEAR.The restaurant is on the main floor. I am not a terribly picky eater, but the menu did not apeal to me.It is African fare.It was a long walk to the old downtown area..a bit too far. They parked our truck for us, and we did not know where it was.It was $17.00 a day for parking on top of the hotel room. A bit much I thought! We had to get them to fetch the truck when we were going to use it. Cleaning staff spoke very little English. The room was clean enough, but I would not recommend it. The whole experience was a dissappointment.

Honeymoon
If I ever return to Montreal I will definitely be staying here again. The room was perfect, the bed was comfy, the shower luxurious and the decorations exotic. It also had a kitchen with dishes, microwave, sink, oven range, fridge etc. The table was made up with the most beautiful dishes ready for your homecooked meal. The staff was amazing. We asked a simple question about the train service to Quebec City and got a print out of the schedules, fares, etc. and they offered to call and book our reservation. The Ethiopian restaurant attached was one of the best meals of the trip. Loved this place!!!!
