Good Location Not a 4 star hotel
This hotel is by far NOT a 4star as it is advertised. The decor seemed like from the 90's. The location was okay although it wasn't by the chain hotel. It was like being on 9th avenue in NYC. The rooms are not like the picture shown. The hotel name is the Expresso but that's just a disguise for the Days Inn hotel, which we noticed by towels, booklets, and other information. My husband booked a queen double by mistake and called the reception area to see if we could change and the person who answered the phone said of course. We we went to the reception area someone else said that all the king bed rooms were booked. However, he "looked" and saw that there was one room left. This was clearly a LIE!! We left the room and put a note of "do not disturb" but someone entered the room without our permission. The bed was really uncomfortable. T

Grungy, horrible hotel
This hotel is completely misrepresented by the pictures they have available. The room we stayed in was really grungy and not maintained. When we arrived, the floor had obviously not been vaccuumed (literally, crumbs and plastic wrappers on the floor). When we went out the next morning I asked the person at the front desk to make sure someone went in to vaccuum it, but when we returned in the afternoon the room had been serviced but not vaccuumed. I called down to ask again and after a half hour with still no one coming to vaccuum I went out to flag down a cleaning person and ask her to come in. The arm chairs in the room were stained and really out-of-date. I didn't want to touch them or put my things down on them. The air conditioning unit was wider than my wingspan, noisy, and leaked water when it was turned on. The location of this hotel is pretty good, but there are a ton of other hotels near downtown Montreal. I would never stay here again.

Entertainment tip:
Long walk from hotel
Over by the Museum of Modern Art there is a pretty fountain that is having a light and music show coordinated with the fountain at night (shows are at 8pm, 9pm, and 10pm). As of 09/2010 they are going on for another month or so. It was a lot of fun to watch.

days hotel/l'espresso hotel
this hotel was not even a 3 star. It was an older days inn with some rennovations. I started off in a non rennovated room. The entire level smelled old, moldy and musty. Old furniture, and very much a classic 1.5 star days inn hotel. I asked to be moved on my second day to a rennovated room hoping for the "4 star" level I paid for. Well the rennovated rooms are better, but still 2 star at best. It's the same room, same furniture, just carpets removed and fake hardwood (vinyl) floors installed. Slightly better smell, but still ALL Days Inn. The bathrooms were also awful. Tiny old towels, cracked tiles, broken shower curtains. The location of this place was the only positive. If you book here DO NOT expect 4 star. This is your run of the mill Motel 6/Days Inn property, just new owners trying to "class up" the joint with a few "rennovated" rooms to try and lure you in, and even those are not so hot.

Espresso
This hotel was so dirty, both customer service agents, working there on saturday 05/28 were extremely rude; advising telling customers not to use their 7th floor because of some Cuban airline flight attendants using that floor and smoking "Cigar", irrelevant but true. The hotel was missing a lot of basic stuff, I wouldn't recommend it.

Horrible Experience
I was informed by guest [...] that there were bed bugs in his bed and room. The hotel moved him to another room, but the listing for this hotel was set to a 4 Star and it was more like a 1 1/2 Star hotel. Would never book our employee here ever again. I even called to request a refund or a discount and the [...] Rep advised that they couldn't help me on 5/26. Not good service. Take them off your list for hotels in Montreal.Regards,Yolanda Catro

Not what the pictures show
I have to say that the people that help me during my time at the hotel were amazing. My complain is more with the hotel itself rather than the people. Pictures shown are actually not true anymore. Probably it use to be a beautiful place, but the building is old. My wife and I didn't like the room at all. Bed was one of the worst things. If you need a place just to sleep and not caring about anything else, this can be an option. Otherwise, find yourself a better place to stay.

...The average
Location is Great. Hotel is flimsy. Hair on the bathroom floor from previous stay. Noisy AC's. Compresor noise on the 7th floor ( we were on the 6th floor). Parking supposed to be free, we paid $17.00 per day. smelly carpets all over the hotel. Very slow internet.

Not the best place to stay, but...
The staff was indeed friendly, and the room was spacious. However, the hotel was a little noisy at times, if I didn't have the A/C running all the time, I would have been subjected to listening to much noise from the nightclub downstairs. The purpose of the trip was a heavy metal concert, so if you think I'm just complaining about the noise for the hell of it, I'm not. A lot of sketchy people hanging around outside (prostitutes?) The carpet was badly vacuumed, I found nail clippings from prior guests near my bed. Always fear shoes in the room, because you just never know. The garage is a little scary, lots of random wires hanging everywhere. BUT it's close to St. Catherine street, so if you don't mind slumming it a little and saving $, this place is the right choice.

Only the ugly
I was quite disappointed with my stay. My reservation was for Hotel Espresso which actually turned out to be a Days Hotel chain that just quickly changed it's name a couple months ago. The rooms were so noisy. I can hear people talking from the next room and hallway. Overall bad experience.

LOCKED OUT
I stayed at this hotel for 3 days while in town attending a conference. The night I arrived, I put my stuff in my hotel room, stepped out for a quick bite to eat, and came back to the hotel to get some sleep (It was after midnight and I had to be up by about 6 am). It turned out that the room they had given me had a broken locking mechanism and my card would not work. As the hotel staff bumbled around trying to figure out what to do, I spent 2 hours sitting in the lobby, was eventually moved to another room and did not gain access to my ORIGINAL room to collect my belongings until almost 3 am. Needless to say...this wasn't a fun first night in Montreal, and set the entire trip off on bad footing. FIX YOUR LOCKS!
