There are old and new rooms in this hotel

The first night was terrible. The room was old. Bathroom tab and sink were clogged. There were lots of cracks on the floor. The bathroom tab was broken. Then we asked to changed the room (asked for a new room facing the city). The staff were very helpful and arranged a new room for us. The new room was really nice (except the bathroom tab was clogged again). But still it worth the price. The design was beautiful and it was clean. You can't get better with location in this hotel. Very close to a subway station and the most famous street (St. Catherine). Not sure if I would stay again though/

Good Value

Overall, the hotel was a good value. The rate was reasonable for the quality of the hotel. Front desk was helpful when questions were asked. The location is good - for the Bell Center, but quite a ways to get to old Montreal, the port & historic center. Parking is available on site (at an extra charge).

Definitely not a four-star

While possibly adequate, this hotel is certainly not a four star hotel and left a lot to be desired. While asking me to sign a form guaranteeing payment for anything broken in the room, I got into the room to discover a broken bedside light, a broken keyboard on the computer, and everything unplugged so I had to plug everything in and set it all. The hall was not too clean. The location of the hotel was near to where I wanted to be but required walking through some empty lots. Staff was variable in their friendliness. Smokers congregated at the front door of the hotel, making for an uncomfortable passage on the way in.

Experiencing downtown Montreal

This hotel's location was great for us: close to Concordia University which meant coffee at Myriade and food from the organic foods co-op. We were happy with how close we were to Atwater Market, Mount Royale and other attractions. A stop for the 747 city bus that goes to the airport was very nearby. The room itself was mostly pleasant, hardwood floors and internet access on a desktop computer were appreciated. The bathtub drain did not work properly (ankle deep water after a shower) and the smoke detector chirped at us sporadically but frequently the first night (battery needed changing). In sum, pleasant staff and solid location = good value.

One night getaway

The staff was very friendly and went out of the way to do research and make reservation for the French restaurant we were looking for. The location is couple miles from Old town, but still close enough and convenient to everything.

Very Interesting Hotel....

Location is great for shopping and Metro. Lobby was very interesting, very small and not very inviting. Not the normal Hotel Lobby. Why you ask??..hanging on the only round couch were local folks that stay per agreement with the hotel.. when family members are in the local hospital. I understand this situation but it did create somewhat of a homeless housing situation. Next..first room was ok..guess you get what you pay for. Bathroom had a gas odor of "pizza" telling me the pipes were leaking from the septic system. On a positive note, our lock decided to break on the door and they did move us to an updated room. Once we passed through the filthy hallways we were in located in a nwonderful room.

Decent location but not 4 stars

Everything was fine at the Hotel Espresso, but that's it, just fine. It's clear that it was a Days Inn in another incarnation.

What is going on with the hotel?

There must be some type Goverment subsidied housing, because day and night the lobby had Eskimo's hanging out. Also had what looked like a daycare outside the elevator on our floor as 6 small children were playing whil an older child watched. On checking you it looked like the hotel was printing out Meal voucher for one of the residents. If you don't have to spend a lot of time in any area other than your room you will be fine. Room was clean, bed was comfortable. OK for the price.
