Good Choice

The hotel is located close to the Metro and is only a block and a half from the main artery of the city, St. Catherine's Street. The rooms are newly renovated and quite attractive. I would choose this hotel again.

A great stay, in a great city

The hotel was quite nice, we decided to upgrade to a suite upon arrival, which had been newly renovated, which from my understanding was a good choice as everything was new and fresh. The hotel was close to St. Catherines, Rene Levesque & Crescent which were great places for food and night life, although expect a bit of walking or take the metro, because it was a little further down the strip (very close to Mary Queen of the World Cathedral). Pool was nice too....all in all I would say a great value!

Great stay, near downtown

We were very happy with our stay at Hotel Espresso -- it was actually much nicer than the reviews made it seem -- very clean, staff were friendly, our room was very big, and I liked the style of the room (no outdated carpet or ugly bedcovers here!). The hotel is a close walk to all the bars and restaurants on St. Catherine street (about 30 minutes from Partarre du Quartier des spectacles). My only complaint would be that you couldn't pull the curtains closed on the windows and the shades did not do much to block the early morning sunlight making it hard to sleep in after a late night out. I would definitely stay here again though!

Far from four-star service

This is the worst four-star hotel I have stayed in. While the room was spacious and the beds were comfortable, there were balls of dust in crevices (like behind the fridge and coffeemaker). The refrigerator was constantly leaking water onto our food (from the small freezer up top) and was noisy. The room description was inaccurate - the description said there would be a computer, and there was none. On the other hand, the description did not include the fridge and microwave, and since I like to bring breakfast food when I travel I would have appreciated knowing that I can bring, say, milk. However, I would not have been nearly as disappointed in the hotel if it wasn't for the staff. Overall, the front desk staff were slow to get to clients. For example, at one point there were three hotel staff members at the front desk apparently "working" on their computers, and I waited for several minutes before one attended me. They were not friendly or hospitable the way I am used to in hotels. If you do stay at this hotel, do NOT eat the breakfast. The buffet breakfast costs $13 and consists of runny eggs, non-fresh "fresh" fruit, and dry sausages. Perhaps the french toast and pancakes are edible enough, but they are not worth $13. In paying for the food, I am convinced that the waiter gave me change that was $10 short intentionally, thinking I would not notice. Once again, the wait staff was not as friendly (and I would say not as honest) as I am used to, making the accommodations, amenities (food), and hospitality all disappointing.

Impromptu trip to Montreal

Pretty decent and good price considering we booked it same day during Canada Day long weekend (same price as some as ones in the bad part of town). The shower was was a little bit run down, but the room was nice and big and clean. Pool was great, they even have a lifeguard and towels available which I was surprised at. It's not a big pool just FYI, all one height I think which is about 5 ft at the deepest, but great to cool off in. We enjoyed the french beer in the bar, and when we told the check in person that we had already parked in the parking they gave us a blue overnight ticket and we didn't have to pay for the time we parked before check in. They also easily accommodated our 3:30am check out. Just one warning to ladies; I searched every bathroom and couldn't find anywhere to buy tampons which was a bit annoying considering they have a pool! All in all a decent hotel, not luxurious, but certainly liveable. Great location to walk to lots of shopping and everything.
