Welcome to this Downtown Montreal Hotel!
Dating back to 1876, Abri du Voyageur Hotel has been renovated in keeping with its historical character. High ceilings, bare brick walls, maple-wood floors, continental doors are reminiscent of the past and give the hotel a unique personality. Abri du Voyageur Hotel is not an impersonal, run-of-the-mill cookie factory type hotel but is part and parcel of the history and evolution of the Faubourg St.Laurent and of Montreal.
Abri du Voyageur Hotel is adjacent to the Quartier des Spectacles Hotel. Each hotel is in a separate building linked by a common lobby and reception. A single entry serves both hotels in a 4 story centennial building. All the rooms and studios are equipped with an air-conditioner and cable television. The hotel also offers free wireless internet for all the guests.
A friendly professional staff and a warm ambiance offers you a welcomed refuge in the midst of the hustle and bustle of downtown Montreal. Relax in the 'hotel de charme' and visit by foot Montreals' boutiques, cinemas, restaurants, museums, art galleries, sport events, shows, bars and discotheques. Metro St.Laurent ( subway station) is less than a block from the hotel and will bring you in 10 to 15 minutes to those few sites not in walking distance ( ex. Dor Beach on the St.Lawrence River, Mount Royal, the Botanical Gardens, the Biodome, the Casino of Montreal). What a dream location! Hotel Abri du Voyageur offers its guests budget rooms, standard and superior rooms with wood floors and many with their original brick walls in its historic building, as well as modern studio-apartments with full kitchens in its annex. With the regular rates, you receive a voucher for an excellent continental breakfast offered at the Commensal restaurant. The hotel lobby is located on the 2nd floor of the four story centennial building. Please note that the building is not handicapped accessible and not equipped with an elevator. The hotels' courteous personnel will ensure that you have a comfortable stay in Montreal and provide you assistance at the 24 hour reception desk. The hotel also offers amenities such as free breakfast.

New Years trip

This hotel is located in a great spot. The staff was incredible nice and accomodating. The nicer/ pricier rooms are much nicer than the budget rooms and MUCH quieter, so anyone staying here should take this into account.

Great location, average accomodations, great staff

I felt very welcome and accomodated. Good info, advice; they took care of me. Very average place- little funky, but clean. Location, location, location- I parked my rental car in the museum complex- 2 short blocks away. The hotel is a bit like a youth hostel- make your decision knowing this- but the value and location are top shelf. Very nice, helpful staff. That made all the difference. Highly recommended if you are not really in for "nice" hyatt like hotels that cost 3x as much, but want a good experience in the heart of this city. The only thing better might have been staying in Old Montreal, if there is a place there for $70 a night!

Too many steps.

Unfortunately, the Abri du Voyageur hotel is located on the second floor and above. There aren't any elevators, however. Climbing the steps after a long day of sightseeing, etc., the last thing I wanted to do was climb steps to a third-floor room. The price is very reasonable, however, even considering there are no private bathrooms. The hotel was quiet, and well maintained, with a friendly staff. Location is great -- nearby Old Montreal.

Skip the multimedia presentation about the Basilica, Notre-Dame. However, go on the tour. The Basilica is gorgeous!

Great location, not great hotel

The location of this hotel is perfect. One block from a metro station and in walking distance of all the great attractions of St. Laurent and St. Catherine streets. The hotel leaves much to want though. The rooms are small with low ceiling and the beds are rather uncomfortable. The prices did not include any taxes and fees which were a large portion at an additional 18% even after the booking company stated they were included.

Nightlife tip: Long walk from hotel

Go party on St. Laurent, it is a little bit of a walk up hill but the clubs are diverse and a lot of happening.

Great stay

First of all, the staff of the hotel were very pleasant and helpful, even very early in the morning when most of the city was probably asleep. The room we stayed in was recently improved and the entire hotel felt clean and very habitable. Parking was per day which wasn't too bad, but I found a spot a block away from the hotel that was able to accommodate my needs of being able to come and go as i pleased (something that other parking locations didn't seem to keen on). Overall, the stay was excellent, though the beds were very firm, but after a full day of trekking around Montreal it didn't really seem to matter. Free wifi was a bonus that many places in the area seem to lack, and location near many of the main thoroughfares was a nice touch.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

Dining in Montreal seems a lot more expensive than most places I have been to. 4 bagels with regular toppings cost $38, a bit of a shock to a New Yorker used to bagels costing a couple of dollars each. This bit of high pricing was found at most restaurants selling a verity of food. 75% of the money I spent in Montreal went to food.

Clean, affordable place for students to stay in the heart of the city

We had 2 dbl beds with shared bathrooms; perfect location - walking distance (~5 - 15 min) from great nightlife. restaurants and the harbor; VERY CLEAN spacious spared bathrooms; beds were full-sized rather than queen sized, but linens were clean; rooms had sink and AC; the room was clean and beautiful with exposed brick walls and hardwood floors; staff was very friendly and helpful with activity recommendations; breakfast was pretty good and we found underground parking for $10/night; will definitely stay here again if we return to Montreal
