Normal check-in was 4pm ...
Normal check-in was 4pm and we were early, so we went on a tour and returned at 4 pm. One room was ready. The other they would call us when it was ready. We went to the room. It was so small, and there were complimentary snacks to help make our stay a little more comfortable. To use the bathroom, you had to straddle the toilet to shut the door. The staff was nice enough to deal with, and I wouldn't want their job for nothing...but it made for a very frustrating afternoon and evening. Vacations are too short for that kind of mistake.

vancouver trip
The service at this hotel was so bad that for the first time in my life I checked out of the hotel five minutes after checking in to it. We walked up to the room to drop off the luggage, use the restroom and go off exploring the city. The bathroom clogged up and when we called the front desk they asked us if it was number 1 or 2 and told us they would give us a plunger to clean it ourselves. We were shocked at how ridiculous this was, especially after paying $175 a night for a room. The staff said that the maintainence was gone for the long labor day weekend and that the 3 people at the front desk had to do everything for the 300 room hotel. The staff was rude and didn't understand how we felt at all so we cancelled the booking and left the hotel. They tried to make it better by calling us another hotel for that night. The other hotel was only 2 blocks away and was twice as clean, with a staff that was great. I would not recemmond the sandman hotel to anyone because they did nothing but frustrate us and waste 3 hours of our vacation.

Not really impressed
The room we got was the size of a storage closet with the view of the air conditioning system of the hotel. Rooms were hot and stuffy. Then the elevator got stuck with a bunch of people on it and it was very hot and hard to breath in it. Now the front desk said they sent someone to fix it but after 5 minutes of no one coming some of us in the elevator were able to pry the door open and escape. The only good this is this hotel is close to GM place where we were going to watch an event. Other than that its not worth $200 a night.

Not so happy
I was attending a wedding so i decided instead of drinking and cabing it home to spend the night at sandman. i've stayed at other Sandman locations and have nothing but good things to say except this location. Upon my arrival everything was great and fast, the room was not so great it was on 11th floor (1114)but since i wasnt staying more than one night i wasn't being too picky. after the wedding i came back to my room for a quick nap before heading to reception, i noticed the door was jammed and the knob was broken (it wasnt when i checked in) my neighbour next door had his door wide open and was lounging in his room in his boxers (uncomfortable with the sight) i knocked on his door and asked if he could call downstairs for me but he decided to help out instead we opend my door and i called downstairs they quickly changed my room and the front desk girl came up with new set of keys to my new room. i was impressed. onto to the next room. after my nap i used the bathroom before i left....well the toilet would not flush so i hd to stick my had in to flush it manually. Not impressed but i was running late and had to leave. the room was right by the elevator and it was loud. VERY loud all night. at that point i wish i had just cabbed it home rather than staying there. the rooms are extremely small and outdated.Beds are extremely uncomfortable....2 days later my neck and back is still soar. Upon check out they did comp my parking. Th staff is very professional and nice but i would NEVER stay there again even if it's a one night stay. nor would i recomand it to anyone.

The Room
The TV controller did not work, we phoned to have it replaced, when the maid tried the second one it too did not work she left with it and never did return with a workable controller. No fridge in room and the elevator was experiencing problems in as much as it was slow to the point where people were taking the stairs. We will stay.

Old, small and busy
We stayed for a BC Lions game, and the location is great.. however there are nicer hotels closer to BC place. Check was atrocious. I have never seen a checkin line so long, there must have been 8-10 groups in front of me. The elevators were very slow, with lineups in order to get on one to go up to your room... . The room was SMALL, about the size of my bathroom at home (admittedly my bathroom is a large one, but still!) and it smelled like old man B.O. It looks like they have squeezed rooms anywhere they can - behind ice machines, beside elevator shafts etc. And it is difficult to find your way around the hotel... for example to get from your room to the pool is quite an operation in multiple old staircases, doors and elevators. We ate at Moxies in the restaurant at the hotel, and the waiter was very rude to us. The one good thing about it is that they enforce quiet hours after 10, so we did sleep well. But I will NEVER stay again, you can do much better in Vancouver for the money.

Terrible beds
Small, old elevators and terrible beds. The parking garage was being resurfaced, but no warnings about what was being done to the garage - another guest ended up with tar all over her shoes because she could not get to her car without walking through the fresh surfacing and had no choice because she had to be somewhere and the hotel did not inform the guests. Not a happy experience with this hotel.

good location for concert
The hotel was about what was expected. We booked this room based on location. It was great to be able to walk to gm place for our concert.Easy walking to Robson street, downtown area. Downsides, the room was musty smelling, could only open windows 2" to vent and was hard to cool down.
