Located within a stones throw of Belizes Great Barrier Reef, Matachica is located 5 miles north of the town of San Pedro on Ambergris Caye, surrounded by beautiful tropics and incredible marine wildlife. The resorts majestic lobby set under a soaring thatch roof, is designed with rustic elegance and style for your comfort. A wonderful spot to mingle, thumb through a variety of magazines and local travel books from library while listening to eclectic collection of music from around the world. Award winning MAMBO restaurant, amongst the best in the country, serves exquisite contemporary dishes, lots of seafood and a variety of homemade pastas and breads. Carefully selected music flows into the MAMBO dining room, filled with contemporary paintings, candelabras, local ceramic treasures, exotic hand crafted Belizean art and Central American mahogany furniture. Absolute heaven, even in a rainstorm! Wonderful people, accommodations, and food. I have been to many islands. They say you should never have a relationship with the same person twice. I will make the exception for Matachica.

Long walk from hotel
Dining can be expensive. Go into town and fill up on local food. Come back and split the dishes at Mambo if you are still hungry.

Matachica was top notch!
The cassitas were very nice a blend of simplicity and island flavor. The room was not over the top high end but is was completely comfortable with some nice touches like the hand painted tile. We had a view of the sea from our porch and spend lots of time on the beach and by the extremely nice pool. I'm going back next year, no question. The staff was amazing. I've been all over the world and the service here was among the best anywhere. Cons: food and drinks are expensive. But there is nothing stopping you from grabbing liquor and sodas in san pedro and bringing them back. Take a couple tips: 1- take tropical air from Belize over to San Pedro, its worth the ~$120 as opposed to taking the slow ferry for an hour plus 2- take advantage of the complimentary continental breakfast 3- next door is the Rojo lounge. Its fantastic, eat there at least once

Next door is the Rojo lounge. Its fantastic, eat there at least once. they have some interesting dishes, try the pork bao and the lobster poppers, but everything we had was great. Note two items is more than enough to share for two.

Most awesome relaxation!
The staff was excellent, the accommodations were unique and beautiful. The resort always felt like we were the only guests there! The front desk was happy to arrange a fishing trip, a snorkeling trip or basically anything that would make our experience more wonderful.
