Sandyport

The best part of Sandyport is the staff. They work very hard to do all they can to make sure your stay is pleasant. The pictures on the web are accurate. The buildings are lovely. Our flight arrived before check in time and they held our bags while we walked to the beach. They also upgraded our hotel style room to a room with a small kitchen for no charge. The food in the Bahamas is very expensive and having a place to fix breakfast was a plus. Our room was on the second level overlooking the pool and lagoon. The room was small and the bed not so great, but we were gone most of the day and spent very little time there. A better bed would have been nice. The pool area is nice. With a gorgeous ocean, we never went in the pool, but it looked clean and lots of families enjoyed it.It never seemed overly noisy with kids in the pool. It is easy to see they are working hard to upgrade the resort and we appreciated the efforts. The location is something travelers need to be aware of. It is a few miles from the action on Cable beach and downtown Nassau. We did not rent a car and relied on the number 10 bus and taxis. The buses stop running at 6:00 pm. After that you are left with a $20 taxi ride or a long walk. There are few sidewalks so walking can be somewhat risky. When you stay at Sandyport you do not have easy access to restaurants. The beach is a short five minute walk at the most. It is a small beach and not very clean. One afternoon we were swimming and picked up two beer bottles, an old snorkel mask, and a plastic bag floating there. Also, the beach had garbage and lots of brown seaweed stuff washed up on it and I mean lots--like a strip three feet wide running along the entire beach section. Once we got out and about on the island and saw how absolutely beautiful the other beaches in the areas are, we never went back. We went to Love beach which is a private beach and for $5.00 you can stay and play all day. It's out of the main tourist path way and very private and fabulous. We also took the Blue Lagoon Dolphin Encounter trip minus the dolphin part. That was fabulous. You go on a short 30 minute boat ride to a private island and can have a beach day. It was amazing. The price was reasonable and the beach unbelievable. Try to arrange your trip when the cruise ships are not in. We also did the Paradise Island and Atlantis hotel trip. You've got to go and see that. The public beach is the best. The water is so clear and warm and there are plenty of people to help you with chairs, umbrellas, drinks, etc. We booked our trip at the last minute because of all the rain we had during the spring and we wanted a break from the rain. After booking the trip I checked the weather for The Bahamas. Every single weather site said we would have rain and thunder and lightening each day. Most happily, they were all wrong. We did not have one drop of rain. In closing, I need to say how beautiful the Bahama people are inside and out. All of the people we had contact with were warm and gracious. We enjoyed meeting them very much.

If you want a fun beach day, go to the Blue Lagoon and get away from Nassau for the day. If you are traveling without children and do not want to see the dolphins you can get a beach day pass and it is fabulous.

Quiet satisfaction and relaxation

Sandyport's staff treated us with utmost courtesy, kindness, and helpfulness. Their staff and quiet, beautiful grounds make them our destination of choice for future trips. Whatever acvtivity we wished to do they were quick to facilitate our wishes, such as by calling and making reservations for subbing, dolphin encounter, sea lion encounter, restaurants, local tours, finding a church, etc. The hotel room was clean and blessedly quiet. This is the place to be if you want to get away from crowds of people. Although the hotel is located at some distance from downtown Nassau, the local buses come by every 5 or 10 minutes, are easy to use, and only cost $1.25 one way. Our only tiny complaint would be that while there was a coffee pot in the room, we had to supply our own coffee and cups.

Friends and Family Vacation

We spend most of the day relaxing at the beach, and swimming in the ocean. We also watched the sunset from the pier. The swimming pool and ping pong tables and other actvities were very enjoyable. Our bedroom was equipped with a jacuzzi and with two large sinks and a very nice bathroom which made our stay very pleasant.

Awesome Gem of a Hotel

Sandy Port is an awesome little hotel if you want a real Bahamian Experience. There are 2 restaurants within the complex, plus a small gas station convenience store & more resturants within walking distance or a short cab ride away. I would recommend renting a car if possible, just to make it easier when going to dinner at night as the public buses stop at 7pm & cabs are not readily available as they are at the major hotels in the area. This is within a 10min ride to Cable Beach Casino or a 20min ride to Atlantis. There is a beautiful beach within walking distance aross the street & jet ski rides are available behind Sandals hotel or at Goodman's Bay. The Staff at the hotel is wonderful! Especially the night manager [...]! Sooo friendly! They also have rooms with little kitchen units and a market within walking distance, so you can save some money if you care to cook.

Do NOT use your United States Cell Phone in the Bahamas the rate is $1.25-2.00 a min or MORE, that is if your service even works. TIP: Buy an UNLOCKED GSM Cell Phone off of [...], when you arrive go to Custom Computers on W. Bay Street next to City Market. (Ask Your Cabbie) and purchase a Bahamian SIM card and pre-paid minutes. I promise you will save a bundle.

Close to airport but not very clean

The entire hotel complex is falling apart and has not been maintained. While the shower, sink and bed were all clean (?), other surfaces in the room were sticky and dusty. Vending machines did not work, the change machine had been broken into and the front desk could not provide change. The best part of the stay was the person at the front desk. He went out of his way to help when he could.

Quiet and Peaceful

The hotel staff was very hospitable and courteous. I enjoyed there presence and sources of information for enjoyment and relaxation. Hotel is well maintained with a knowledgeable experienced maintenance man who I had the pleasure of meeting; he was very efficient. I guess I'll leave you with this. I'm used to Hyatt Hotels with with High definition Televisions; the Sandy Port Beaches Resort can step up there Televisions for sure after all we do live in the year 2011 not the 80's or early 90's. Coffee was only available one time upon awakening and had to ask the crew to make it. At one point I got frustrated and drove to Starbucks instead. Other wise my stay was bliss. I do recommend this resort for those on a budget and want a more quiet setting like myself. Have fun!!!!! JT

Great 3 Star Hotel for a Great Price!!!

We stumbled upon this Resort after debating on booking a Top Secret Hotel deal via [...]. Although we did not know what we would've been put in if we went with Top Secret deal-- we must say that we're SO PLEASED that we decided to book with the SandyPort Resort. Once we arrived we were upgraded to a studio(at no additional cost) which worked out perfectly. The studio included a kitchenette with all pots, pans, glass & dinnerware included. This allowed us to cook our own meals and save TONS of $$$ instead of eating out every night (the maid also does the dishes)! The Room itself was big enough for us not to trip over each other and the patio added a special bonus for us to enjoy our home cooked meals outside. We stayed pool side for a the first few days and then decided to walk to SandyPort and Cable Beach the rest of the days (just across the street). The beaches as well as pool side were deserted and allowed us time all to ourselves with the Ocean,Beach and Pool. The pool is very clean and maintained. There is also two water slides that offer a few photo ops and good times. The Resort property itself is absolutely gorgeous. The lagoon that runs in from the ocean also has some beach areas that you may decide to take up if the pool doesn't suit your fancy. There is a Laundry Room on site but the Change machine is busted so we had to get a roll of quarters from the Bank (which is also just a 5 minute walk). Our room was also missing the remote for the TV but we never even called to ask for another (not a big deal). Our flight departure was later than our checkout time. The front desk allowed us to store our luggage (locked in a room) and to come back for it upon our departure. They also offered to prepare a room for us if we wanted to shower before we left at no charge. There is a Energy Surcharge and Maid Gratuity that was due when we left. We stayed for 7 days & it was just under $200. The Resort will call a Taxi for you if you'd like. There is a flat rate set by the Gov't going to and from certain locations. It is $18 to and from the airport (by the way, at the airport it doesn't say SandyPort-the closest is Cable Beach which is the same area).Get yourself a travel lock. The security safe is way to small to hold any serious valuables and we took a lot of electronics (digi & videocam,laptop,etc...)plus bought several expensive gifts and locked them under the TV cabinet with the travel lock for piece of mind. All in all this was a great deal for a 3 start Resort as I have tried to convey in detail for everyone's advantage. Be sure to have your garbage taken out daily if you are cooking or eating in the room as ants can and will take over if you are not careful (as ants do in any place in the world).

Go to the Grocery Store and cook your own food to save yourselves from the $70 dinners and $50 lunches everyday. Although the food at the store is higher priced than in the US it still beats the Island Restaurant food prices. If your into blowing some serious coin on food...then you will have an opportunity at every dine in location!!! Bone-apetite!

Great deal

I had read reviews about the hotel before we left, and there were a couple that said they had really bad experiences. Having been to the hotel and experienced the staff, I honestly don't know where the complaints came from. We were treated very well, and all requests were promptly addressed. I would stay there again without hesitation.
