Nice stay in Nassau in an off the beaten path hotel
The Red Carpet has a nice pool and newly redone rooms. Things work, and there were none of the Old Nassau unpleasantries that some hotels have (e.g. roaches or rats). There is a shopping center, one of the best in Nassau) and Starbucks right next door and you have a little kitchen in your room, or at least I did. Internet is decent with good reception at least in my room (near the front of the hotel). Like most internet in The Bahamas it was slow or went out occasionally, but i was able to get my needed work done. Red Carpet is a nice, affordable place to stay if you want to really experience the Island of New Providence rather than just going to Atlantis or Beaches or Sandals and staying on site the whole time.

Short drive from hotel
Get outside of Nassau and visit the Pine Forest, the Retreat Botanical Garden, the Primeval Forest National Park, and the other 2 national parks on the island, These are great places to learn about the islands of the Bahamas and the neat birds and wildlife that inhabit the area. Birding tours are a great option too.

Great stay
We found it located a bit out of the way but the local bus stopped out front and we used it almost every day, so the location didn't matter too much. The room was very clean and large with fridge and microwave which was handy with a grocery store nextdoor. The two beds were comfortable. The bathroom had a small floor space but lots of counter space. Everyone was friendly and helpfull. A beautiful local beach was only a 5 minute walk away along with several restaurants. A bit disapointed we had to pay extra for internet and the use of the safe. We enjoyed out stay there.

Very close from paradise island. We could walk to Atlantis, about 17 minutes walking. Clean, not perfect but ok for the price. If you plan to stay there for a short stay it's a good place but for a week, I would recommand other places.

"What you see is NOT what you get!"
The RCI's website was filled with lovely pictures - but was not up to date. If you wanted to raise or lower the air conditioner temp, you had to call the office and have someone come to your room with the remote control. Our A/C wasn't working properly, so the manager came up and unlocked the door that made our room a suite, and turned on the air conditioner in there. that solved the problem but we realized that we had been charged for a "superior room", but only got it because of the airconditioning problem. They wouldn't let you have extra towels for the pool - you were only allowed to have the number given to the room, and had to turn in the used towels to get new ones. The restaurant/bar that was advertised (and shown on the info card in the room)no longer exists - the extent of their hospitality service was a coffee maker. the office and front door were supposed to be open until midnight, after which you needed your room key to get into the hotel- they closed at 8:00, catching guests off guard who had taken the office personnel at their word, and leaving them to yell to someone in the hotel to come let them in. The inn is located in a part of town not considered very safe, and was set back off the road, behind a bank-even taxi drivers had trouble finding it. The beds and furniture were arranged poorly (one of the beds was next to the closet, making it inaccessible unless you moved the bed or climbed over it. However, the pool was fabulous!

Shopping tip:
Short walk from hotel
Check the hours that stores are open! most close by 6PM and many are closed on sunday, and some on friday. If it's a holiday, such as Bahamian Labor Day on June 3, absolutely everything is closed completely!

Budget conscious stay in Nassau
Not beachfront but within walking distance of Montague beach (a 1/4 mile long "locals" beach). Restaurants and stores are an easy walk away. On Jitney route. Facilites are clean with frig and microwave. Nice courtyard & pool. A good alternative to the Paradise Island tourist crowd.

Good value
Just stayed here for one night because it was just across the street from where I needed to be the next morning to board a diving boat I was staying on for the next week. Beds were fine and comfortable, safe and quite, close to bars and restaurants--few small bugs in the bathroom, but none seen anywhere else. I will stay here again next year for the night before I board the boat--would not stay here if you were looking for a hotel/resort to stay for a week though.

truely bad customer service
When we went to check in, the rate was higher than anticipated. We asked for a breakdown for the rate and the receptionist said she did not know. I asked her for the manager, she said the manager was unavailable. I asked her to phone so that I could receive it and she said "No". I said in that case, I did not want the room. She said that we would have to pay one night cancellation fee. I said that I would not pay it because I did not feel the price was the one quoted. She told us to leave or she would call the police. Nice place, I would never go back.

No view, no amenities, no extras,...
Hotel is located back behind a building from the main road. The taxi driver charged us $40. US from the airport. (The return was only $32) Taxis have no meter so negotiate b/f you leave the airport. The rooms are clean but not too charming. The evening receptionist is not very friendly and seems reluctant to be of any help but, everyone else at the hotel is very nice and friendly. The young lady who runs The Barn restaurant on the premises is highly intelligent, friendly and a wonderful conversationalist. We paid for a room directly to the hotel when we arrived on a Monday b/c the Orbitz rooms were not available. The price was quite a bit. more than the Orbitz rate. This included a VIP upgrade which was a small breakfast, free local phone calls and free internet. Even if you pay for those things seperately, it is still a better value to get the Orbitz priced rate. We booked on Monday night when we arrived and then left during the week to stay in the Xzuma's. We booked a night at the end of the week so we could catch a flight the next day. The location is pretty close to Paradise Island which is about a $10. -$12.taxi fare. There is a fantastic seafood restaurant close enough to walk to called the Poop Deck. Go there and you will see lots of famous ppl have been there, too. Don't ask the taxi drivers for recommendations. Also there is a grocery store in the plaza next door but expect to pay at least twice of what you would pay in the US. Also, there is a Radio Shack and a computer store there not to mention a Starbucks and KFC.

A wonderful way to get out on the water and spend an exciting day is to go on the POWER BOAT ADVENTURES. They treat you great, take you to a private island in the Xzumas, entertain you, feed you a wonderful lunch and have an open bar. It is absolutely the best way to spend a day in Nassau! It is the main reason we go to Nassau. Check it out at POWERBOATADVENTURES.COM

Clean, Quiet but a little out of the way
The staff was great, we arrived a little early and they kept our bags safe until we came back from an excursion. Very friendly. It was a little out of the way and you really needed taxis for most anything you would want to do if spending an extended time here, but this maybe true to most island hotels.
