Location was a plus

We liked the location because we were walking distance from the shops, restaurant. The beach was across the street and we had to rent chairs & towels. Their were not bedspreads on the beds, and the bathtub was disgusting. We had no safety lock on the door, which was a problem when someone was trying to enter the room one night at 1:30. They did remedy this the next day and we realized the person was trying to enter the wrong room because the door numbers beside the doors were not lite or visible.

Not quality, but ok for short stay

I've stayed at the Nassau Palms several times for short visits because of its location. The location is near everything. The hotel is outdated and need some tlc. The hotel has great potential to be a 3-5 star hotel. My family and I stayed there in April 2013, and accordinng to the locals and hotel staff, the Leehman Brothers and another entity may purchase the building and rehab the place. The hotel is literally across from the Junkanoo Beach, around the corner from Senor Frogs (an awesome and exciting place to be for food, music, and fun!!!), the straw market, and the Arwark Cay (the fish fry). I would stay at the hotel again because of its location. If you want to go to Paradise Island, cabs are very accessible and or you can catch the ferry around the corner. I plan to visit again! I have become a true Bohemian! stores, and the fish fry, Arwark

Four Day Vacation

Great location and price , room was clean quiet and comfortable. Staff is pleasant. One elevator was out of service, and at the fifth floor water pressure in the shower was reduced to non existent . Overall for the location, to the beach access, and the center of town on a budget you can not beat it.

Average

The hotel was great for what I needed for. However, I did have toliet issues 2X's that was resolved immediately. Location great, breakfast great and the Hostess was great as well for the price. I prefer a different type of hotel stay, but to please others who have never been to the Bahamas and wanted to experience the local feel, I agreed. The Astrada Gardens, the straw market and downtown shopping and the fish fry are all within walking distancePlease beware of advertisements for vacations holidays. They are time comnsuming and dampers on your vacations. I researched once I returned home only to find that they are scams.

Money-saving tip: Short walk from hotel

If traveling to the Atlantis, take the ferry 3.00-4.00 vs. 12.00 taxi ride. Find out what activities are within walking distance.

Best Vacation

For such a short vacation, it was a wonderful experience with a great location which was situated near a lot of local shops in walking distance. The staff was friendly and the rooms were comfortable and clean, this would be a great hotel to stay at if visiting the Bahamas.

Shouldve gone to Atlantis....

This hotel offered most of the basics, sometimes. The room was dingy and smelled like smoke, and the sliding door to the porch would not open. There were holes in the curtains and we saw a few bugs. The staff is friendly but we had to ask for extra towels and toilet paper even after the maid came. The continental breakfast is confusing, they were always out of mugs, silverware, etc. and no one was quite sure what was going on. There is a small convenience store (cash only) inside that offers water, drinks, snacks and toiletries. However, there is no restaurant in the hotel so we had to go walking to find meals, and since we went around Christmas and the "Junkanoo Festival" (which is like the Bahamiam Mardi Gras), everything was closed for the first few days. The hotel is right across a very busy/hard to cross street from Junkanoo Beach, which is a nice beach but be prepared to be harassed by locals selling everything from jewelry to "magic grass". Several Beach Shacks there offered food and drinks but be prepared to wait awhile and they accept cash only. The hotel was located within a 5 minute walk of the downtown touristy area, and the cruise ship port, which is where we felt safest. Note: this area is NOT the safest for single girls!!! We were followed/harassed and yelled at many times and never could relax, and spend most evenings at Senor Frogs with all the cruise patrons. We usually like to experience the cultural places but we mostly stuck to American chain restaurants as they accept Credit Cards and actually have a menu and standards. Most local establishments accept cash only and you wait hours for service even if you are the only customers. Also, the hotel does not offer free Wifi so we found that Dunkin Donuts & Senor Frogs offers complimentary internet access for mobile devices- just ask the waiters for the password and they will give it to you. All in all, the hotel was suboptimal from my goal of balancing quality and value, but the Junkanoo beach is a nice tropical destination if you can survive all the other factors. I wish I had spent the extra money to go to the Sheraton or Atlantis, as those places seemed to offer better quality and value.

Senor Frogs, Sharkeez and the Athens Cafe were great for dining, accepted Credit Cards. Senor Frogs is the only restaurant that we found stayed open regular hours. Many nights the downtown area closes very early if the cruise ships are all gone. Conch Fritters is a good local establishment that offers dining and had clean facilities and friendly staff, music, TVs and wifi internet access. The restrooms were clean and the food was decent. Be prepared to pay a "Service Free" at all local establishments that is 15% of the bill.

Work with what you have.

I am a manager at a hotel and sometimes your not able to recieve funding as other hotels, but you should try to do your best to work with what you have. Everything in the bathroom was rusty. The carpet looked like it has not been cleaned . My room was cleaned druing my stay, they did not leave any wash clothes. The staff was not freindly at all and if you can not provide an upgraded hotel please provide good service. Security, there was signs everywhere that you should be careful and for your safety. This was terrifying. The view was wonderful.
