Awesome Family Trip!!!

The pools and Cable beach are clean and wonderful. The food is excellent and moderately priced compared to Paradise Island. The rooms are modern and may need to replace the carpet in a few rooms. The hotel is located in prime spot with bus travel to Fish Fry, Downtown and Paradise Island. It is one of the better hotels in Nassau. We really enjoyed our stay and will return in the future. There is free Wifi in the lobby and west wing of the resort. Happy Travels!

Great Pool, Expensive Food

We went to the resort in late August 2014 and the hotel is just finishing up with renovations. Overall it's a nice hotel, if you are not too concerned about details. There might be a bit paint missing here, some funky patch up work done there, but nothing too disturbing. We got a great deal on the room probably because the hotel wasn't completely finished with renovations yet, but I'm sure prices are about to rise. If you are not used to the Bahamian food prices, prepare yourself for a sticker shock. There's a Starbucks in the hotel and it cost over $25 for two breakfast sandwiches and two tall drinks! A meal at the resort runs $20+ per plate. There wasn't too many local restaurants or shops nearby, but if you like Thai food I highly recommend the Thai restaurant next door. Food was delicious! Other than that, you had to take a cab or a bus to town if you wanted to eat outside the resort. The bus (number 10) is a great deal at $1.25/person, but stops running at around 7pm. Taxi is about $20 to and from town. They are building a huge resort with a water park right next door, which is supposedly going to be bigger and better than the Atlantis. That will hopefully bring some more local businesses and food choices to the area. The pool at this resort was great. We didn't have the time, or need, to even explore all the pools, but there is something for everyone. There are at least two jacuzzis and two waterfall pool grottos. It was nice and quiet when we were there, but that is probably because school was about to start and August seems off season for them. The pool area opens directly to the beach and the beach is also very inviting. Be wary of the overpriced drinks at the pool and beach, though, they are very watered down. There is a liquor store downstairs if you prefer to mix your own drinks...

A bit disappointed

The price was good, and the beach was convenient. It appears they are in the process of a much needed makeover. The air conditioner was not working in the room, or some of the common areas. The housekeepers came to the room, but failed to leave fresh towels on two of the four days of my stay. Food on the property was mediocre at best.

Update is crucial

Since they are in the process of upgrading the hotel, I won't give a review until completed. However, I don't understand why we had issues with getting FACE TOWELS EVERYDAY! We had the SAME experience last month at the Gran Melia in PR. That was VERY frustrating!

Great exterior. Poor interior.

The location of the hotel and the outdoor areas are fantastic. Multiple pools. Great beach. Swim up bar. The grounds are kept very clean and are beautiful landscaped. And an easy cab ride into downtown if you want to go. However, the hotel still needs some work. The interior and service is very poor. It took 1 1/2 hours to check into the hotel. There were 5 bellman, 3 customer service people (doing nothing), and only two check in people - despite a line about 30 people deep. And in looking at other reviews, this seems to be a common problem. We saw a huge line at check-in/check-out everytime we passed the lobby. The hotel seriously needs to work on this issue. They have enough check in counters, but they need to allocate more employees to those areas, not the other areas. Also, our room was on the older side and in need of basic renovations. The decor looked like it had been renovated and the balcony was great. But the room was very hot, even with the A/C on high. We had to keep the blinds closed during the day to try and keep the room cooler. Also, the shower in out room didn't work, I had to "McGyver" the shower with a hair band to keep it on the shower setting. The water pressure is directly related to the water temp i.e. cooler water has virtually no water pressure #which is usually preferred in a wamr room and warm outside temp#, and the hot water had stronger water pressure, but still lacking. The first day, I ordered a drink at the pool bar. Service was very slow - which is probably because gratuity is already included. I told the bartender that it had been a long day and I need a good strong drink! He proceeded to make me a $9 rum runner and add a $10 shot to it. A $19 drink!!! How the shot is more expensive than the drink, I will never understand. And he didn't ask if I wanted an extra shot, just made an assumption. $19 for a drink is ridiculous #actually about $22 with the prepaid gratuity#. Overall, I think the grounds and location of the hotel are great, but the "amenities" and interior of the hotel are more like a motel.

Loved it

Things started out rough. Like I read from others, our room was not ready (nor were many others) and it was pouring, so many people were in the lobby and tensions were running high. Had it not been raining or had we not traveled so far (with a 3 year old) it would not really have been a big deal as there are things to enjoy and explore inside the "lobby". The room was nice, the view was breath-taking. The pictures are no lie. The resort was big enough and not too big. There was lots of pool area and it was not crowded. We ate at the pool restaurant, the buffet and the tappas bar and everything was very good (though, of course, pricy). I loved having a Starbucks on hand! They are under construction right now, I believe putting in several new restaurants. The construction was discreet and other then having to take minor walking detours it was not disturbing at all. I do think they should put a tad of resources into maintenance if they are putting in new restaurants, but again, minor stuff--missing tiles, saggy lounge chair...Overall, highly recommend it. Had a wonderful time.

Shopping tip: Short walk from hotel

Right across the street/highway, where they park the cars is a small "village" of "shops" were locals are selling goods (and daiquiris). We valet parked so I didn't even know this until we were leaving. Shop around-different prices for similar products from different people. I bought from 2 beautiful souls, Nadine and a wood carver who couldn't break my $20 so I owe him $2 next time I'm in Nassau :)

Relaxtion

Hotel was very nice and the beach is beautiful! Hotel amenities needs improvement. They should have more than one restaurant and a night club on the premises. They should also have activities every night after dinner. For ex. talent show on Monday, salsa night on Tuesday, etc. Adding these features will make the hotel more desirable and vacationers will have a blast!
