Lots of upgrades at this recently renovated Palm Beach gem

The resort is home to a 12,000 square-foot Casablanca Casino, which received 200 new state-of-the-art slot machines. The 8,500 square-foot pool received new teak furniture. For breakfast, check out the new Bon Bini Cafe.
Highlights
  • Multi-million-dollar renovation site-wide
  • Kids Club for ages 4-12
  • Seven restaurants and lounges on-site
  • The 2,500 square-foot Intermezzo Spa offers a comprehensive menu of spa services

Marble baths, pillow-topped mattresses, stocked mini-bars and fully loaded entertainment centers have been upgraded recently as part of the $22 million resort-wide renovation at the Westin Aruba Resort. Modern wood furniture and sleek flat screen TVs are in all rooms. Floor-to-ceiling windows are extra-stunning when paired with pool or ocean views.
Dining
Guests can enjoy breakfast or a light lunch poolside at the Terrace.  At Azul, chefs prepare intricate four-course dinners that are meant to be shared with a loved one on the beach during sunset. Try and resist doing an impression of Bogart while at Rick's Café, which is outfitted with comfortable teak and rattan armchairs.
Recreation
A Kids Club offers scheduled activities, and the Little Chef program allows kids ages 6 and up to prepare a meal (with expert supervision) for their happy parents. The Westin Aruba Resort fitness center provides ample opportunities to elevate one's heart rate – as do the azure ocean views one sees while snorkeling or fishing. Amazing Aruba

This was our 25 wedding anniversary trip and it didn''t disappoint us. Aruba is amazing. The hotel was very nice. The room was clean and smelled clean. We had a nice view of the ocean from our balcony. We purchased the breakfast buffet when we checked in and it was great. The food was good with lots of choices. We didn't eat at any of the hotel restaurants so I can't comment on them. We ordered pina coladas from the tambu bar which cost a ridiculous $9.50 and believe me there was no alcohol in them. If you want to taste alcohol, get a drink from the casino bar. The casino left a lot to be desired. If you don't like smoke, then don't go there. They do allow smoking in the casino. Also there seemed to be a lot of people there who were not hotel guests...some shady characters. The fitness center was really good but seemed more crowded on Saturday than during the week. One thing that may annoy some people is if you want to get a palapa at the beach, you need to get down there about 7:00 am to reserve it or you may not get one at all. As for me, it really didn't bother me since I was up early anyway. Overall I had a great experience in Aruba and at the Westin and would definitely return again.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

If you want to save a little money for dinner, go to Tango Argentine or Fishes and More. (Both along the strip). You need to get there by 6:30 PM to get the early bird special but it's worth it. $21.95 for a choice of 3 or 4 which includes soup or salad, potato, vegetable, and ice cream. Also try the mango martini at Fishes & More...now that's a good drink!

Nice hotel for families and children

The rooms are nice and spacious. The beds are wonderful! The bathrooms are spacious. The shower is old and you can tell that they have tried to update the bathrooms by putting in granite tiles, etc. The "view" that you get from your room is very disappointing and misleading. We had an ocean view room, but we were placed on the 6th floor and the resort's trees and cabanas were our main focus as we looked toward the ocean. Our actual view overlooked the roof of the hotel and a construction site to the left of our hotel.

First trip to Aruba at Westin hotel

The Westin was very clean. Employees and guests were very respectful, friendly, courteous, and hospitable. We love the birds that were outside of the hotel. We had a beautiful view of the ocean and pool from the balcony.

Needs improvement

Hotel needs improvement. Overall was a good stay, except issues with the room that the Manager resolved the next day. If you are looking for a hotel with a great location and ambience, that's the Hyatt.

Great trip! Will go back at Christmas

Aruba was beautiful. The weather was perfect...the beaches were beautiful and the people on the island were all really friendly. The Westin has a great location and their legendary beds lived up to the expectations. This is an older property but has been well maintained. The gym is fantastic. The restaurants on site were good - not great - and were relatively expensive. There is a good breakfast at Bon Bini in the hotel (you can make arrangements to get a breakfast package included and that makes it reasonably priced for a really satisfying breakfast). I would say - with few exceptions - the "ocean views" are all partial. The building is built on a a diagonal that gives every room an ocean view from the patio but not so much from the room. You should definitely check out the the Italian restaurant at the old lighthouse at sunset. Really good food and the views are incredible! It makes for a very memorable and romantic evening. I would also recommend going to "Baby Beach"... it is really fun place to snorkel and just relax on the beach.

Check out the Cafe Rembrandt for good bar food and traditional Dutch fare. Papillon (French/Caribbean) was also delicious.

Decent rooms & proximity to restaurants

The hotel was a 15min drive from the airport and its one of the first high rise hotels. We paid for a premium ocean view room but the view was a partial view of the ocean and the parking lot, pool. So, we went back to the check in desk and they changed the room to a better view: pool and ocean view. The rooms were regular rooms with basic amenities. You could rent a refrigerator for $5/ day to store sodas etc. Its a 10 min walking distance to all the restaurants. We didnt do the all inclusive so we got a chance to visit and enjoy the restaurants close by. The beach was a bit crowded in the mornings but after 3pm it wasnt too bad. The pool was great as well but we spent most of our time by the beach. Didnt need to rent a palapa (hut) as it was available on a first come first serve basis at 7:30am in the morning or even sometimes later in the afternoon. We did try the Blossoms asian restaurant in the hotel but the food was very ordinary. The terrace restaurant was decent however. You could also book water activities right in the hotel lobby and rent a car from Hertz as well. So overall a decent place to stay and staff was prompt in accommodating any requests we had. would recommend this place for anyone visiting Aruba for the first time.

Not renovated

Our 2nd trip to Aruba. We went for our honeymoon in 9/05, when it was the Wyndham. What a different experience this time around. First things first - the only thing renovated at the Westin is the lobby. The rooms are not by any means shabby but certainly could be improved - mainly the bathroom. The Westin has a new policy with the huts that let guests rent them daily or weekly with varying rates for the 3 rows. I get the idea but still having to wake up at 7am to get a hut, only to see a line of other guests trying to get their huts - not a good feeling. We opted to get up early for the first 3 days & then rent for the last 3. The crowd of people down there this trip was certainly interesting. Way more crowded - probably time of year, but also we encountered quite a few obnoxious and clueless guests, who thought somehow that they didn't have to abide by the rules of the house. Not sure if they were locals there for the holiday weekend - it was carnival, or people from neighboring venezuela or columbia. For example, one late afternoon, we were getting ready to enjoy the sunset when a group of about 10 teenagers came onto the beach with a case of Bud & a radio. We thought for sure somebody would tell them to turn down their music & ask if they were staying at the hotel, but that never happened so quite a few people, including us, packed up our stuff & headed up to our rooms. Either way, it didn't matter where they came from, it put a damper on the mood of everybody else on the beach, trying to enjoy their vacation. I am only stating what I saw & trying to give an honest review. The staff although nice enough, didn't give that extra touch that we previousy got while staying at the Wyndham. Didn't eat at the restaurants at the hotel, we have our favorites on the island & each one was fantastic!!! We went to Acqua Grill twice, Sole Mare twice, Suisse Chalet, & LG Steakhouse. The cab drivers were super friendy & always got us to & from the hotel quickly & safely. Weather was what we expected - sunny & beautiful. When booking this trip, my husband & I had no doubts about going back to the Westin, (formerly Wyndham), but when booking our next trip, we will be exploring other places.

There are plenty of cruise ships at port this time of year, so if you want to go downtown to do some shopping, get there early. Stores open at 9am.

Worst Experience Ever

Rooms were dirty, air conditioner was incredibly loud, concierge was not helpful, and the people at the front desk were incredibly rude. Further, we were on our honeymoon, which I told them at the time of the reservation, and the only room they had available for us had double beds in it. Their consolation - a $50 coupon to use at the restaurant for breakfast the next morning, which we only had to wait in line for 50 minutes before getting a table. I wouldn't stay at this hotel even if they offered me a trip for free. Do yourself a favor and stay at the Hyatt - 10x nicer. Despite being paid in full, we would have moved to the Hyatt during our stay if they had availability.

Westin

The Westin hotel was nice but didn't live up to the Starwood brand. The concierge was not helpful when booking reservations and asking for help. The pool is by far the biggest downside. It's one big pool that is adults and kids to share. Mostly kids. The chairs and cabanas are nice and free if you get there on time. The rooms were very nice. Overall, for the $150 night I paid it was well worth it. The following hotels are the best hotels on the strip in order: Hyatt, Marriott, Radisson, Westin.
