Good Week

My wife, 18 yo daughter and I stayed at the Holiday Inn for 5 nights during spring break. The hotel is ideally located along Palm Beach in the midst of other hotels/resorts. The open air lobby is well suited to the year round daytime temps in the 80's. Our room was large and comfortable, with a nice sized balcony with a great view overlooking the garden, beach and carribbean. The pool area was nicely laid out and had an adult pool. There were small shops within the building including a mini mart, souveneir shops and upscale shops for clothing and jewelry. In many ways this was a very nice place. The things that I did not like included : we had very inconsistently hot water in our bath for four days. Staff members worked on it but, did not pass on to others (engineer) the need to address the valves that controlled water to our room rather than continually trying to manipulate the fixtures in our bathroom. The concierge staff were pleasant but, were not able to answer specific questions about activities. The fitness center was adequately equipped but, some equipment was old and did not work.

Dining tip: Not Applicable

I'm not sure where to affix responsibility for this but, we got as many different explanations for the "service charge" added to restaurant bills as different people we asked about it. Some say there is an automatic 15% service charge to every bill. Some say the serving staff gets the 15% others say it goes to the "government" . One place added 10% and said the staff got it. Other places did not itemize the 15% so I don't know how it was accounted for. The lack of clarity about what was what left me quite confused about how to handle tipping. Be prepared for inconsistent practices regarding charges related to service and tipping.

Great family vacation

This was our first time to Aruba and we had a great time. I would recommend doing the all inclusive if you have children. They were able to eat/drink whenever they wanted! They did add an "energy fee" when we checked out that we were not aware of.

great beach

Checking in the hotel was the worst part of the entire trip. After paying for the trip upfront, the lady at the front desk insisted that we pay an extra forty dollars a night for my daughter. I thought this was crazy becasue the entire trip was booked for three adults. The ladies at the front desk were slow and rude. It made me nervous, but the rest of the trip was great. The beach was great, the room was fine. Dont expect any free coffee though! They dont provide any in room coffee, and you have to pay for a cup of coffee in the lobby too. Make sure you go to happy hour at the beach bar because the drinks are expensive.

A shining example of OK.

We got exactly what was expected for the price. A very average room in a hotel that needs some updating. Overall our vacation was great. Aruba is beautiful.

Not Our Usual Vacation

We have been to Aruba many times and loved it. This is the first time we stayed at the Holiday Inn Sunspree and were very disappointed. The room was nice and clean, but the desk clerks were very slow. Food in the buffet restaurant was terrible and cold. The beach was dirty and rocky. We will never stay in the Holiday Inn Sunspree again. Aruba is still beautiful, but the next time we go we will stay in another hotel.

Disappointing Vacation

Check-in was ridiculous. All 3 clerks behind the counter were chatting with each other . When we finally got to the desk, we were told we could check in, but we could not get our room key until 4pm (this was about 1pm.) We finished checking in and left our luggage in the lobby. At about 3pm we returned to the desk and we told a bellman we had already checked in 2 hours ago. He went to the desk and got our keys. Food in the buffet restaurant was cold for dinner and breakfast. Beach was dirty and rocky.
