Description

The woman who would become Lady Gaga first got into music in the summer of 2005 with hip-hop artist Grandmaster Melle Mel when he was recording the audio for a children’s novel called The Portal In The Park and she recorded two songs with him. That same year she also got together with a number of friends from her former University and formed the Stefani Germanotta Band (after her own name).

The group played a number of songs that they wrote themselves as well as a mix of classic rock covers, playing in bars all around the New York Metro area. It wasn’t long before they generated a small but rabid fan base that caught the attention of Joe Vulpis, a record producer. They flamed out rather fast however and, by 2006, disbanded.

It wasn’t long after that however that Gaga met music producer Rob Fusari. He had seen their group play and believed that Stefani was one of the best singers he’d ever heard, and so he asked her to be the front singer for a new band and even helped her to create her stage name. Lady gaga was born.

Still, the type of fame that she now has didn’t come until around 2007 when she was performing at the Lollapalooza Festival with another young singer, Lady Starlight who she met that same year. The show was a hit and got many positive reviews, helping Gaga to finally find her musical niche, mixing glam rock with pop melodies.

Her career skyrocketed after that, especially after moving to Los Angeles, where she released her first album in August 2008, Fame. The lead single on that album, Just Dance, shot up the international charts and made her the huge star that she is today. By January 2009 it was at the top of music charts around the world and earned Gaga her first Grammy nomination.

The song that really cemented her fame however was also the one that won the Best Dance Recording Grammy at the 52nd Grammy awards, Poker Face. That single sold almost a million copies and the album was also the winner of the Best Dance/Electronic Album that year. Gaga wasn’t done however and, at the MTV VMA Awards, she took home the prize for Billboards Rising Star as well as Best New Artist with her video of Paparazzi, her third single.

Gaga’s Born This Way Ball tour started in April 2012 and was a huge success worldwide and today she keeps up her concert appearances regularly even though her fame has been overshadowed of late by the likes of Miley Cyrus.
