The young hockey team first got its start in Edmonton in 1996, but after a few years the Ice relocated to Cranbrook. Here they found even greater success, first winning the WHL Championship in 2000 and then both the Championship and the Memorial Cup in 2002. While they continued to make appearances in the playoffs, it wasn't until 2011 that they were able to again capture the championship title. Junior ice hockey teams showcase the rising talent in the league and are a great place to see future legends. The Kootenay Ice team has sent several young stars to the NHL, including competitive players like Jarret Stoll, Jeff Glass, and Nigel Dawes.
