About Of Monsters and Men

Of Monsters and Men is an Icelandic chamber pop group being referred to as "the new Arcade Fire." They became popular when they won Iceland's battle-of-the band competition in 2011. Their lead band members are singer and guitarist Nanna Bryndis Hilmarsdottir, co-singer and guitarist Ragnar Porhallsson, guitarist Brynajar Leifsson, drummer Arnar Rosenkranz Hilmarsson and bassist Kristjan Pall Kristjansson. The band is definitely out there - they've admitted in past interviews that they believe in trolls. No judgment however - how else do you think they come up with their incredibly clever music and lyrics? They credit their success to Iceland's weather and the fact that there is nothing to do but create new music. Despite their Icelandic heritage, all their music is written in English - it's just easier that way, they say.

Chart toppers
Of Monsters and Men tickets started selling fast when "Little Talks" became an international success. Since then they've produced numerous whimsical songs like "King and Lionheart," "Mountain Sound" and "Wolves Without Teeth." The band's debut album "My Head Is an Animal" topped charts all around the world. In fact, it reached the No. 1 position on Rock and Alternative Charts in Australia, Iceland, Ireland and the U.S. One of their biggest accomplishments - aside from producing chart topping jams - was when their song "Silhouettes" was put on the "Hunger Games: Catching Fire" sound track. This kicked off their second album which they recorded in Iceland and Los Angeles.

Major influences
Overall, Of Monsters and Men get their influence from Europe, Iceland and American music. Collectively, they listened to a lot of bands and artists like The Cure, Bon Iver, Talisman and Arcade Fire. They have been around the block when it comes to all the big tours and festivals. They've even made appearances on TV shows like Saturday Night Live and Late Night with Jimmy Fallon. Of course, Of Monsters and Men have played at Lollapalooza, Bonnaroo and Glastonbury and will be performing at Coachella this year.
