Rocking the Foundations of a Generation

Unhappy playing with a band called the Exotic Birds, Trent Reznor departed to pursue his own vision. He recorded early demos in the studio where he worked – laying down each instrument, besides the drums, himself. Nine Inch Nails started performing live in 1988, and the debut album arrived the following year. Pretty Hate Machine eventually snagged platinum status, lauded along the way by publications like Rolling Stone.

Nine Inch Nails became a live sensation with instrument smashing and belligerent charisma. The band's popularity skyrocketed, and their sophomore album entered the charts at No. 2. However, following a heroin overdose Reznor had to put the band on hiatus to clean up. His struggle with addiction was heavily chronicled in their fourth album, With Teeth, released in 2005. Nine Inch Nails went on hiatus again in 2009, with Reznor pursuing other projects. The band returned in 2013 with Hesitation Marks, and the following year Nine Inch Nails got their first nomination for the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, their second in 2014, and then again in 2020.

Since 2005 performances from the band include thematic visual pieces, lots of special effects, and use of light shows. The band has sold over 20 million records and has been nominated for 13 Grammy Awards. In 1997 Time named Reznor one of the most influential people, and he was labeled “the most viral artist in music” by Spin. The band made the list of 100 greatest artists of all time by Rolling Stone in 2004.

2022 Tour

Nine Inch Nails took a break from performing after their 2018 tour but still released new music and collaborated with other artists. In 2022, the band announced a limited tour for late in the summer. Ministry and Nitzer Ebb are just some of the special guests the band had join them on tour. The selected tour dates started in Raleigh and included Red Rocks Amphitheater in Denver, Los Angeles and more cities. The last tour date announced was in Cleveland in September.
