About NASCAR Sprint Cup Series

The National Association for Stock Car Auto Racing (NASCAR) began holding its championship series back in 1949, but the event has gone by many names throughout its storied history. The current title, NASCAR Sprint Cup Series, has been in place since 2005, and is named after the sport's chief sponsor, the telecommunications company Sprint. This is important to know, as sprint racing is an actual sport that takes place each year, but is not the style that NASCAR's Sprint Cup Series hosts. The most important point of the series takes place at the Daytona 500, which gets some of the highest ratings of any competition in America with tens of millions tuning in, but there are 36 races in all throughout the year.

Memorable moments
Who could forget the crazy year that was 2008? Kyle Busch had been on a monstrous winning streak, dominating the field in the Sprint Cup Series point standings, until one fateful day in New Hampshire, when Busch's suspension went out early in the race, putting him back to eighth overall in the standings and allowing Jimmie Johnson to win his third title. More recently, Busch made history by winning the championship in 2015 after missing 11 races in the beginning of the season due to injuries. His title was cemented by his victory in the final race of the year.

Intense atmosphere
All NASCAR events will be energetic, loud and filled with cheers. As one of the most widely viewed sports in the country, expect to see plenty of die-hard fans watching the cars race at more than 200 miles per hour for countless laps. This is a great event for the whole family, but make sure small children have ear plugs and everyone is wearing plenty of sunscreen at the daytime events. Chaos, fearlessness, excitement and exhilaration are all on the table when attending a NASCAR event, and those emotions within the Sprint Cup Series are among the most intense of all! The NASCAR Sprint Cup Series runs throughout the year, with 36 events across the nation between February and November that have implications for the championship.
