An alternative metal band that was originally formed in New York City back in 1989, Helmet is one of the well-known ensembles of this generation of alternative metal. Over the course of their history, the band has had multiple lineup changes but has remained together nonetheless. They have performed multiple types of metal over the years but are best-known for their work in the post-hardcore and noise rock styles. They did take a short break for a few years in the late 1990s and early 2000s but have since resumed their performances. They have been associated with a variety of labels during their time together including earMUSIC, Interscope Records, and Warcon. The band has also performed with a variety of other acts including Band of Susans, Anthrax, Rob Zombie, Scum of the Earth, and Biohazard. Helmet is going on tour again in 2019.

A History of Helmet

The band was first formed back in 1989 and has enjoyed significant commercial success during the past three decades. To date, the band has released eight separate studio albums along with two separate larger compilation albums. Their debut album was Meantime which debuted on the Billboard charts at number 68 thanks to its two popular singles "Unsung" & "In the Meantime." They proceeded to release two more albums but broke up briefly in 1998. In 20014, the band came back together and proceeded to release four more albums, building on the success that they enjoyed in the 1990s. The band has enjoyed a recent surge in popularity and will be going on tour again in 2019.
