Not up to par for a Marriott

Newly weds Nov 17, 2009

I had stayed here before about 6 years and remember it being a lot better and impressive. This time my new bride and I were ... on our honeymoon and looking for the same comfort I had experienced before. From the start I was not too happy when I found out about the additional 33.00 dollars a day for parking fee (plus $1.44 per day for garage tax on my final bill). The first morning we were there the room next door's alarm went off at 5:25 AM at full volume. After 45 minutes we called the front desk to have them turn it off because it was obvious that the room was unoccupied. When I received my final bill, we were charged $1.00 for using the phone to call the front desk!! The room was pretty clean, the bathroom could have been a little cleaner. The rooms are kinda small too. I just don't think I got the bang for my buck on this one. I will not be returning for a 3rd stay.

Waikiki was a most fun place and there were great restaurants within a very short walking distance. The people who served us or waited upon us were always so gracious, kind and helpful in every way. There were nice eating places along the beach front. We always had breakfast in our hotel at the buffet (wonderful). But for evening meals, we visited some of the very nice restaurants at a very short walk from the hotel. It was fun to try different places and try their meals. There were also some great shopping areas. Marvelous stores of all kinds.

OK hotel - but mis-represented on Web

G Nov 4, 2009

Hotel was reasonable - I would have picked a different one except for the mis-representation on Web Site. "Hotel covers 5.5 ... acres" - I didn't realize they meant the building and garage foundation. I thought they'd have some nice gardens but there were none. Downstairs restaurant was highly overpriced and stingy with servers. Drinks were 'watered down'. Won't return.

The Marriott Waikiki was a great place to stay!! We had a great view of the beach. And could even see and the pool down ... below. We were in a Partial Ocean View suite. The room was clean and updated with a flat screen TV. The bed was so comfortable. We were in great walking distance to all the shops, boutiques, lounges, and restaurants. The concierge booked our North Shore tour of island and the Katamaran dinner cruise, both of which we enjoyed. The staff was friendly and very helpful.I would definitely stay again!!

Fantastic Hotel

P&D Oct 11, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The Waikiki Marriott is in an ideal location across the street from the beach and walking distance to shopping. The entire ... hotel is kept spotless and everyone went out of their way to make sure our stay was enjoyable. We ate in all the restraunts located in the hotel and felt all were reasonably priced, food was excellent and served in large portions (we started splitting a dinner). This was truly a dream vacation and we plan to go back in 2010. So much to do on the Island and very relaxing. We would recommend getting the GoOahu Card for at least 3 days - it is well worth the money if you plan on doing tours, snorkeling, luau, etc. We had a 3 day and used it to the max. Go to Leonards Bakery for the fried donuts - absolutely the best. No need to rent a car as the bus line is great - for $2.25 you can go anywhere on the island. We did rent a car for 1 day to go up to the North Shore/Sunset Beach/Turtle Bay. Just a great vacation.

Great place to stay

Love to fly Oct 8, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

I read mixed ratings on this facility and wondered about it prior to leaving on the trip. When we got there the facility was ... very good and in a great location. The only thing we didn't like was the room service trays weren't removed by the cleanning staff. But over all this was a very good place to stay. The staff was very friendly. The parking was on the pricey side. I read in a previous review about parking in an adjoining garage. Great advice. The name of the other hotel to park at is the Banyan waikiki which is actually behind the Marriot on the corner of Ohua and Kuhio streets. We parked there for a week for $60.00 as opposed to $27.00 a day at the Marriott. We had a room with a partial ocean view which was great. We did find out the room service is pricey for coffee. There is a Seattle coffee shop on the ground floor of the hotel and it was much cheaper. The beach was directly across the road from the hotel. There was another hotel across the street that had hula dancers and music but the noise wasn't that bad as we had read before. Overall I would recomend this hotel and would stay there again.

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel was in the perfect location, just less than a block from the beach. It was quite, clean and the stuff were very ... friendly.

Way expensive

Super dad Oct 4, 2009

Very noisy at night. Had to call room service every day in order to get my room made up. Far to expensive for what you get. ... Watch for hidden fee's, such as parking $35 per day and use of the internet is $6.50 for ten minutes. The location is great, right across the street from the beach. Easy check in/check out and the staff was very nice.

Dining hint, Short Walk

The Marriot Breakfast Buffet is pricy but to die for and the staff there was great. Cheesecake Factory is just down the road a short walk west down Waikiki beach from the Marriot. Yumm-yumm!! Don't go to the IHOP near by, they have cockroaches!!

Dining hint, Short Walk

There were nice eating places along the beach front. We always had breakfast in our hotel at the buffet (wonderful). But for evening meals, we visited some of the very nice restaurants at a very short walk from the hotel. It was fun to try different places and try their meals. There were also some great shopping areas. Marvelous stores of all kinds.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Long Walk

Diamond head is about a 2 mile walk from the hotel, the hike is about 2 miles.

--X, San Diego, CA Oct 23, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

Many restaurants are walking distance from the hotel. So rather than pay for an expensive meal at the hotel's restaurants. Check out Jimmy Buffet's, the Tiki's Bar, Planet Hollywood, or Cheesecake Factory

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Shopping convenient to the hotel - Luxury Row. Every store you could ever imagine. Take the bus to the mall and walk up the hill to WalMart for those little things you forgot!

It sounds funny to go to Hawaii for Mexican food however, the Kahlua Pork at La Cucaracha (a few blocks from The Marriott) is out of this world delicious!!!

Money savers hint, In Hotel

Don't bother driving in Oahu if you're there for less than 3 days. It's not worth it. There are a myriad of bus services to and from the airport, and tours by bus from the hotel are much easier to deal with.

--Markvs, Bridgeport, CT Sep 28, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

There are several nice eating establishments within walking distance, i.e. Jimmy Buffett's Restaurant and many more.

Recreation/Attractions hint, Long Walk

Hike up Diamond Head crater is worth it, for the views. Wear good shoes - path is @ 1 mile up volcanic rock. "Lost" was filming there the day we went.

the o'noa tours are great. go snokeling at Pauloma Bay-with shuttle service from hotel-don't miss this - even two hours is enough time. Through the concierge, we arranged for a sunset catamoran ride with drinks included for $30!!! Don't miss even one sunset.....

Entertainment hint, Short Walk

do not go to paradise blue and do not take the presentation for discounted tickets to activities, it takes 3 hours, they harass you do join what appears to be a scam, and it generally left a bad taste in my mouth, i would have rather paid full price to go on the sunset cruise to get my day back.

There is so much to do on the Island. I wish we had more time there. It was very relaxing and wonderful.

Dining hint, In Hotel

Kuhio Grill opens at 5:00 AM and has wonderful coffee before the coffee shops open. They are located at the front of the hotel on the first floor and have a magnificent breakfast buffet, American and Japanese. One day you may opt for the Belgium waffles and the custom egg dishes provided, and another day you may wish to follow behind the guests from Japan and discover a breakfast of Miso soup and sticky rice. Other buffet stations presented the usual scrambled eggs, sausage, bacon, etc, with another station that provides fresh fruit and juices. Be sure and have the POG (a juice blend of Passionfruit, Orange, and Guava). The staff here was the best that we encountered at the resort!
