I've been to Cabo since I was a little girl and decided to visit a friend. I chose the Villa del Palmar because it was a ... great location to all fun day activites and night time fun. My experience was a below average one. The walls and doors were so thin, you could hear people walking outside your hotel room and the room above. The beds were rock hard, so uncomfortable. The pool lounge cars were cheap and unable to lay down flat. However, the staff were nice and the hotel is in a great location.

When I first checked in, I imagine everything would be easy and perfect....WRONG! I Spend two hours checking in talking to ... [...], at the hotel they did not have two beds and my package did not include all restaurants in the package even though I have an all inclusive package :( They offered me a suite, but I did not like it because it was still one bedroom with one bed a sofa. I told them I have not booked a vacation to sleep on a sofa...so after battling for more than two hours they offered me where I stayed- a room with ocean view and the biggest construccion in the front and on both sides of my room, left and right. The noise was unbearable insane! However, the nicest servers and the pool, bars and restaurant made our vacation good, but not the best by far taken in other vacacional spots in Mexico...I am not returning to Cabo in the longest time

The distance from the hotel to everything else in town is relatively near, however the heat is so intense that you want to take a taxi or a wild ride on a bus. The worst part is that to go a mile long it really takes 5. Cabo does not have the best street plannification and I hear the change street orientations quite frequently besides they are going thru a lot of pipe digging on the main streets in downtown, it was very upseting and disappointing.

The main pool was under construction at The Palomar. My friends were staying next door at La Estancia and they negotiated a ... rate for me to pay an additional $173.00 to upgrade to their hotel. I did and at check out, they charged me $1,043 extra and said I had agreed to $173.00 more per night. They would not work with me, my friends (13 of them)had all stayed at La Estancia, 4 of them had been present when the negotiation was made and they would not budge. I am a single mother, had not been on vacation in 3 years and the additional $1,000 they charged me (which was not agreed to) set me back. I have tried to refute this through my bank but because I supposedly signed a paper that said I agreed to the charge per night I have lost the argument. I will never stay with this group of hotels again - it is, unfortunately, what people think Mexico is all about.

Decent Hotel
Young couples Aug 13, 2009
It was a nice hotel, the small kitchen help saved us money, we went to the local walmart/city club to buy breakfast & lunch ... and only spend money on dinner. Even though the hotel was great, the hotel was really old. Our bathroom had a leak due to the room above us and we called several times to have it fixed. They came fast but the problem didn't get fixed until 2 days later. When we were when the big pool at Palmer was underconstruction so we went to Villa del Arco pool (awesome pool), and there was a black out for 2 hours so we had no lights and no water. Our timing to this hotel was bad (1st week of August 09) There was no sign of swine flu, so it's safe. The hotel was in a good location, right on the beach, a mile and a half from downtown. Friendly service, but very old hotel. Try staying at Hotel del Arco or somewhere newer. The timeshare people were rude and obnoxious, don't fall for their sales tactics. Cabo was really expensive for Mexico, since it's tourist, the regulars overpriced everything. The city of Cabo is still developing, so Cabo wasn't as nice as I thought it would be, the smell was horrid at night, but the resort area is nice, I still would prefer Hawaii over Cabo anytime. I would recommend ones of the Villas.

Don't get any packages when you book your trip to Cabo, you can find CHEAPER deals when you go there. Airport shuttle was only 150 pesos (about $13 each) to go to the hotel (much cheaper then what the cheaptix offer), don't taxi to downtown, you can take bus (outside the security gate, only 70pesos), change your USD to pesos! You save about $1-$2 on everything! Take the local bus to walmart! it'll save you money. Buy a floaty to go in the ocean, the waves are too massive. Timeshare people offer discounted activities but you have to go thru the timeshare sales people for 3 hours, if you are willing to give up 3 hours, you will get awesome deals on wave runners, snorkeling, cruises, etc. I honestly thought it was not worth it, you can go down to the marina and get the same deals if you look around. Ask for a airport shuttle 24 hours in advance @ front desk. Walking isn't bad either it was only like 30minutes, cabo is safe, so there will be no problem with getting back. Taxi to and from downtown is 800pesos or $7. Arrive at airport early! Their airport security sucks and it literally took us 1-2 hours just to check in! Don't check in online at the hotel either, it's not worth it because they make you check in again at the airport and still wait in the long line. Walmart is a bus ride away it's way cheaper then their little market they have on the premises (although it was convenient, they overpriced!)

I will never book a trip through Orbitz again. Check in was a nightmare Check out was the same. We had on 3 seperate ... occasions no maid service I.e.(beds not made, had to call for towels. There was no mention of the main pool with the waterslide being under renovation, and the resort being under renovation. The noise from the construction echoed througout the resort. The glassware on several occasions was stained with lipstick or dirty in general. The elevators were constantly out of order and we were on the 6th floor. This trip was a complete nightmare and no one had anything to say for it at the hotel. You could not speak to the hotel manager at all. You had to talk to the front desk supervisor who had no answer for any of the problems. The menu in the resoort was the same everyday and it was disgusting !!! dont ever stay at the Villa Del Palmar !!!!

We were not told that the hotel was under heavy construction when we booked. The largest (orca) pool/slide was closed and so ... was the fitness center. Small children were in the small adult bar pool with large rafts and floats, leaving no room for adults. We were told by staff members that because the other pool was closed, kids were going wherever they could. But, there was hardly any children in the two baby pools at all. I complained, but they did nothing about it. You get great service, but only if you tip well. Even though the all inclusive plan includes a 10% gratuity, if you don't tip well, forget that cerveza! Other than that, the trip was great and the activity staff was very good and entertaining.
Traveler type: Family
Town is not a far walk and taxis are a little pricey. Have your airport taxi driver take you to Wal-Mart on your way to the resort and buy a styrofoam cooler or bag cooler for whatever you like to drink. You can really save money because the alcohol is very cheap there. The staff (for a tip) will bring you plenty of ice if you ask. Also, if you like to float in the pool buy a $2.00 raft because they are $15.00 at the resort.

Not a Great Time

The registrar informed us that we could choose between 2 double beds or a queen and a sofa bed. I asked for the "2 queen ... beds" that were promised on my Orbitz confirmation. He told me that the hotel did not offer a "2 queen bed room". I restated that my confirmation stated it and he went into a tirade about how the Orbitz employees come to his hotel and they stay and eat for free and they should get their information right. He encouraged me to complain to Orbitz and he said he would also...he took a copy of my confirmation page. His name was [...]. We chose a queen + sofa bed as my husband and I will not fit comfortably on a double bed. The sofa bed was "UNSLEEPABLE". It had a metal bar through the middle that could be felt through the thin mattress. One of my daughters actually just gave up and slept on the floor! This was unacceptable. The main reason we choose this hotel was for the "whale slide" at the pool. However, the entire lower pool, waterfall and whale slide were closed and under noisy construction. The small upper pool was crowded as everyone had to squeeze around and in a tiny pool. We walked down to swim at the sister resort (Arcos) but our all inclusive wristbands were not honored there. My kids were so disappointed that they do not want to stay at this hotel again. The cleanliness was exceptional and the food was great. I was particularly impressed with the beach front restaurant where we had dinner. It was the BEST meal I have ever had!Overall, I was disappointed with the sleeping accomodations and the closure of the slide and I do not feel that the hotel lived up to my expectations or to the promises made in the confirmation and the website.

Awesome for the money...Just Awesome...Great location, close to downtown (walking distance). Great ammenities (Scooter ... rental, Immaculate Beach, Supermarket, AWESOME fitness center, clean rooms, great staff, etc..) I have never had a vacation this easy. Everything was right there. The staff was friendly, and once you get past all the timeshare stuff, we had an absolute blast. The timeshare pitches just come with the territory. Overall, the restaurant by the pool is decent, but there are so many other great dining choices in cabo. Pepe's for tacos, Mi Casa, Marty's Ricazon, The Office, Etc.. The staff at the activity center is great as well. We booked jet-ski's, Snorkel gear, water taxi's, and Sea Kayaks there. The prices were fair (and negotiable if you pick more than one activity). Can't say enough about how great the staff was here. Although half the hotel was closed for renovations (hence our only complaint, the noise) we still were left wanting nothing. If you're looking for a Cabo no-brainer for the $$, this is your place.
