Dream Vacation, Dream Villa

To/From SJD: We arrived at SJD around 1pm, collected our bags, shot the timeshare gauntlet and didn't entertain a soul until ... we reached sunlight. After renting a car (highly recommended if you stay at Ventanas ... you'll need it!!!), we headed out on the 45 minute scenic drive to Ventanas. Location: It's located about 2 km north of the main highway on a hillside bluff overlooking the entire bay and about 5km from dowtntown Cabo. Views from the property are incredible. Also, Costco is only one block away once you reach the main road and the WalMart/Sam's Club shopping center is only a short 5 minute drive away. It took us less than 10 minutes to drive into the downtown/marina area once we reached the main highway. Impressions: We arrived at Ventanas Hotel & Residences with no idea what to expect but were hoping for the best. The property is secured by a gated entrance with security posted 24/7. Since Ventanas only rents a few villas to vacationers and all the other properties are privately owned, we had to engage the security guards in a little spanglish before we were allowed in. After dropping the appropriate names, we were greeted by our personal concierge, [...], who announced that we had been upgraded to a nicer villa free of charge. [...] also handed us a cell phone with his number and 150 pesos preloaded onto the phone. He told us to call him for any problems or questions we might ever have concerning the property or anything at all while in Cabo. All I can say is this place is AMAZING and the service [...] provided was incredible. It had 3 bedrooms/3.5 bathrooms, a garage, a fully equipped modern kitchen, and a rooftop deck with our own private pool, built-in gas grill, and propane fire pit. We also had full access to the clubhouse area which included: a modern fitness center with new cardio equipment and free weights; a pool ares with 2 pools, a hot tub, and fire pit; a small deli/store; and free wifi throughout the clubhouse area. Fernando also informed us that he had stocked our kitchen with a few welcome goodies which was the understatement of a lifetime. The fridge was fully stocked with at least 50 bottles of beer (corona and pacifico), iced tea, and bottled water, and the kitchen had assorted items like chips, cereal, and coffee. Everything was included, compliments of our new best amigo, [...]. The view is also to die for. We had an unobstructed 180 degree view of the entire bay. INCREDIBLE.The security guys write your rental car info down the moment you arrive so they know who you are the entire duration of your stay. They were very friendly and it was nice having them even though I would have felt very safe in their absence too. After an afternoon siesta, we grilled up some tuna on our grill at the villa and enjoyed a beautiful sunset. We had intentions of going out to party that night but the early morning, sun, sea sickness, and constant excitement of catching tuna had taken all of our energy. We spent the evening floating around in our pool and sipping margaritas. At one point, [...] found us and asked if we were interested in taking a sunset cruise on the property's power catamaran, free of charge. "Uhhh, yes!!!" was our response. Under normal circumstances, I believe the sunset cruise would cost around $350 to use the boat for 2 hours but I think Ventanas is trying to get things going with their reputation so they offered it to us for free. Whatever the reason, it worked out great for us![...] personally met us down at Mango Deck where our friend had been lounging all day and escorted us to the marina. He introduced us to the boat captain, [...], and told us that we could ask [...] to take us anywhere we wanted to go. He also gave us the option of fishing, snorkeling, or just cruising; we opted for snorkeling and cruising. The boat was stocked with beer, sodas, and bottled water on ice. Also, [...] supplied a bottle of Moet & Chandon champagne which was, of course, compliments of Ventanas. [...] was appa...

Pick up your groceries from Mega (in San Jose del Cabo) and/or Costco on your way to Ventanas from the airport. You'll drive by them anyway and there is nothing nicer than having a fully-stocked fridge once you've unpacked and are ready to begin your vacation.
