Not so great this time
Rico Nov 16, 2009
You get what you pay for. This is a reasonably priced place. Set up like a college dorm. Phenomenal fitness center and ... pool. Over anxious security team. You cannot have a guest in your room unless they are registered as a guest at the YMCA. My daughter came in the last night of my stay and she could not come up to my room even to see it.... I found this a bit bizarre.. But then again, you get what you pay for and it is a great bargain considering the price of a hotel room in the city.

Great location, fitness center and pricing make up for whatever traditional hotels cost in midtown Manhattan. For a YMCA, I ... certainly can't complain.

Do the Rockafellor Centre at night and then the Empire State during the day. Great views!!
--Keith, Washington DC Oct 21, 2009
The Top of the Rock (the observation deck at Rockefeller Center) is worth seeing. Great view and no line to wait in to get in. I also enjoyed the 3-hour Circle Line boat trip all the way around Manhattan. If you've got the time and want to get off your feet for a while, the view of the city from the water is beautiful, the ride is relaxing, and the narration is very informative.

it is not so good
Chris Oct 27, 2009
It is cheap. It has a good place for exicercises. I swimed there and had fun. Most of staffs were friendly. And one staff was ... not so friendly. I was hurry to catch my flight and he just said to me:" I am the only one who has the key for the room. I can not help you." What a silly young man. Then I had to wait there for 15 minutes untill his colleague came and opened the door for me and another guest. Anyway, it is another impressive experience. I hope it would happen to other guests again. As you all know, people would be very anxious at that state.

*The personnel in the check in was not a friendly type. *There was a dirty towel behind the door on the ground. *There ... wasn`t even a sink to wash your face. *The bathrooms were outside the room, and there were 3 or 4 common bathrooms on the floor for everybody. At least for men and women there were seperate bathrooms.

For the price, what else can you expect?
Thegilio Oct 23, 2009
Although the room rate was cheap, the accommodations were also just that. The restrooms were on the other side of the ... building and the Showers & Toilets were apart in different rooms. Bring a robe to go to the restrooms & or shower and bring flip-flops so your feet wont touch the shower floor. The staff were pleasant but they were unable to switch rooms to one with it's own restroom. I checked out after the first night of a 3 night stay to a real hotel. If your willing to accept the charm of separated restrooms & showers then this is the place for you.

Great Central New York Location
Keith Oct 21, 2009
This is a great location in central New York. The hotel is basic but fine. It's a bit 'tired' and in need of a good ... redecorate but you get a room to yourself and share communal showers. If you want a very well priced, basic base to tour the city from, then this is it.

wasac Oct 11, 2009
In a city where even a very low quality accommodations cost a lot, YMCA is a good deal. The room is small, and there is ... nothing fancy. However, their gym/steam room, etc. are great. Location-wise, the Westside Y is much more convenient.

Just okay
Travelin' guy Oct 8, 2009
Not bad, but not great. I'd stay there again, but only because the price is right and the location is good. But the room ... was only barely acceptable; it could have been cleaner. And the bed was basically a flimsy mattress on a hard surface. Plus the carpet was wet, possibly due to a leaky refrigerator. I think I was lucky to have a realtively quiet room, away from the young people who stayed up until the early morning hours, chatting away loudly in the hallway. I'm just glad they weren't close enough to my room to bother me much.

I checked my bag earlier to attend a party. When i returned my paper work could not be found and they thougt i had been a ... quest the day before and wanted me to complete paper work again. I asked them to double check and they finally found it. It was not a bad stay but i expected more and I understand the rates had increased. that should not happen.
