Great week at Valentin
soontobemrsk Nov 16, 2009
We really enjoyed our week at the VIM. When we were there, the other guests were mostly honeymooners or older couples, almost ... no single people. It has potential to be a party with the right people, but was not really while we were there. At night most people just gather in the plaza to drink and listen to music or walk around the grounds. It's dark at night, so bring a flashlight. We saw Sunday and Monday night football games in the sports bar. Bring a floatation device if you know you'll want one(they get claimed early) and if you want a good lounge chair at the pool get up early (like 5:30-6am) and throw your towel and a book on some. Then go back to bed. Otherwise you probably won't have a place to sit around the pool.

Bring a stack of one dollar bills for tips for the hotel staff, as most of the servers do not carry cash and cannot make change. We brought a bundle of 100 ones and that lasted for the week.

Fantastic value
Laraeden11 Nov 10, 2009
Large resort with beautifully landscaped grounds. The rooms were elegant and clean. The food was wonderful. Best buffets. ... French restaurant (try the Chateuabriand, goat cheese salad, quiche, and apple tart) and Lobster Pot (try the tuna bites and Alaskan King Crab legs) were the best for food and service. But avoid the Lobster Pot and Steak house if it's raining cause they flood! The Mexican restaurant was alot of fun. The steakhouse was good but not great. The Japanese and Indonesian food was average at best. Didn't try the Italian but heard it was good. The beach and pool were gorgeous, get your chairs early cause people reserve them. And bring your own floats or get out early and tuck one under your chair. The drinks were weak and watered down. Ask for shots on the side if you like stronger drinks. The bar service was slow but the servers at the pool and beach move pretty quickly. They needed more rainy day activities. The food at Secrets Carpi is better as are the rooms but the resort is smaller and not as nicely landscaped. The Iberostar was a lot more fun but the food wasn't as good, but the drinks were much better. But the Valentin Imperial Maya was a great value. We would go back in a heartbeat.

The hotel was great...very large and thus very quiet. It suits well for couples looking for a relaxing getaway. Two bad ... notes: 1. Weather (do your homework well before booking) 2. Shuttle service "gray line" - late, not prepared, didn't even show up once...go with another service

Gorgeous facilities, very tropical for REST and RELAXATION and not much else. Eating and drinking and spending time with your ... significant other. Little challenging if you get rain like we did for more than half the vaca. I think if it was sunny for the week we would have loved the place, not many options when it's down pouring.

Valentin Imperial Maya - October 2009
NYStateofMind Nov 4, 2009
The Valentin Imperial Maya was absolutely amazing! The hotel was beautiful and located within a short ride of both Cancun ... and Playa del Carmen. The staff was great - always willing to go out of their way to help a guest with any request. All of the restaraunts were spectacular - the breakfast and lunch buffets were great and the dinner restaraunts were all 5 star. The only negative aspect of the hotel is that there are over 500 rooms and the fitness room is too small to accomodate all of those guests - there are only 7 or 8 pieces of cardio equipment and 3 or 4 weight machines. Other than that, the hotel is outstanding - would highly recommend!

JBH Nov 3, 2009
Wonderful. Greeted with champagne. Concierge excellent help with transportation. Had to buy Off. Got bit by something and ... to see the onsite doctor who was too expensive for his 5 minutes of service. The medications were expensive also but were delivered to the hotel from the pharmacy within an hour. Couldn't take a bike for a ride without going on a bike tour that occurred twice a day. Couldn't take out a boat either on our own. Wonderful pools. Had issues getting towels at the pool mid to late afternoons. Not many floats for the number of people in the resort. Top self alcohol. Good evening entertainment.

Great Adult Vacation
Steve V Nov 2, 2009
After twenty eight years of going too the riveria maya this hotel was the best in every way. Great for adults who want great ... service, no children. The staff at this hotel are the happiest people I have ever been with. The management is doing something right for this to take place. Will be going back as soon as possible. The bars are great with plenty of top shelf liquor, only one thing missing in the bars was lack of Baileys, dont understand this. One thing that could be better in rooms if they put felt on bottom of desk chair legs, makes terrible noise in rooms if on second floor.

The hotel was amazing. Great room, food, entertainment, pool, beach and activities. Even better than all of this was the ... service. The staff was the most friendly and personable that I have ever done business with. They were always helpful and polite, and they knew enough english to get me through any question I threw at them. The hotel is at least a half hour ride from Cancun or Playa de Carmen, so be prepared to travel a bit to do your excursions. Other than a little bad weather (wind and rain) we had a perfect time.

We throughly enjoyed our stay here. The staff is super friendly and go out of their way to make your stay wonderful. We loved ... all the choices for dinner, and drinks flow constantly. The pool is beautiful and we loved the beach, however, we do wish there were more beach huts, on the really nice days it is impossible to get one. We took a trip into Playa del Carmen, which was somewhat fun, it is nice if you need gifts but can be a little stressful because the vendors hassle you like crazy. All in all this is a wonderful resort and lives up to it's star rating. I would definitely recommend it.

JnJ honeymoon Oct 21, 2009
Just returned from our honeymoon. There were a lot of other honeymooners at this resort. Huge pool with afternoon ... activities. The morning and afternoon waterpolo games were fun. Swim-up bar was great. Weather was great except for one day. The food was amazing. Make sure and get a group together and get a reservation for the hibachi grill at the Japanese restaurant. Take bug spray because a couple restaurants are outside. The service was wonderful. We took lots of ones and tried to tip everyone a dollar or two, but it's not required. We used Cancun Transfers to and from the airport. This was the way to go. $82 round-trip. You can pay online ahead of time and you get a private SUV instead of a cramped van or bus. We would like to return to this resort in the future.

Sets the bar for all-inclusive!
Heiminator Oct 20, 2009
First experience at an all-inclusive and it was a fantastic one. Staff was extremely helpful and friendly. Great selection ... of things to do. Nobody around to pressure you about timeshares. Food at all the restaraunts was really quite good, and the only complaint was that there were times with REALLY long waits (1hr+) to get a table (no reservations are accepted). This was pretty frustrating when you could see from the outside that almost half the tables inside would be empty. Other than that, we were without a need for the whole weekend as food, drinks, etc. are available whenever you want them. Definitely a great experience and would love to go back.
