It was a great price and location for an impromptu honeymoon. We planned our honeymoon two days before we arrived. Right ... across the street from the beach, and a few blocks from all the restaurants. The beds were very comfortable!

Short Vacation
Getaway Nichole Oct 6, 2009
This was a great hotel for just a very short weekend getaway. I went down to spend time with my boyfriend and it was right ... across from the beach. The first look of the hotel is somewhat trashy, but the overall stay was very nice. The rooms weren't dirty, just a little out dated. I would recommend this to anyone on a budget looking for a place to stay for a short weekend vacation!

There is a big place called Beach Place and it has many shops and dining restaurants. One of the most famous was LuLu's. It is within walking distance so no need to pay for a cab.

Patty Sep 13, 2009
Our stay at the hotel was good, very friendly staff that helped us to find what we needed, the location is awesome the beach ... is beautiful and many nice places to eat or to have a drink can be reach just walking around, on the other hand some things needs to be improved in the hotel, it is old and some doors need to be replaced as well as some appliances of the kitchen.

STAY AWAY!
Mark Nov 22, 2008
The Tropic Cay is a disgrace. I was unhappy walkiing into the room. The beds were like 2 hard boxes and it was a little cool ... that night and there was no heat. The Kitchenette was a refrigerator a dirty sink and a hot plate for a stove and a hole in the wall were the plug for a stove was. The bathroom had mold on the floor and the shower curtain and a hair left on the toilet. The pool was low in water and did not look very clean. The hotel looks like it hadn't been cleaned or repaired since the crazy times of the 70's and 80's. I'm sure they are just waiting to be bought out and torn down like all the other places aroound it. Again STAY AWAY!!!

What you get for the price
Kristine Nov 16, 2008
My friend and I just stayed here Nov. 13th-16th. All I can say is you get what you pay for. We were kind of nervous. We took ... the bed spreads off and didn't put them back on, sprayed the heck out of the beds and wiped everything down. Then we felt more comfortable. The great thing about this hotel was the location!!! Right across the street from the beach, you can't get any better than that. Be prepared to walk a lot. It is about 1.5 miles north of Las Olas, which is where a lot of the dinning and night clubs are. The good thing is that we didn't gain any weight because we walked a lot!! :) So overall, it is a very bare bones hotel. We were hardly there. We just slept and got ready there. We never felt unsafe and George was a great guy to get good ideas from on where to dine. Would I stay there again? More than likely not....

Location & Cheap
John Oct 27, 2008
Tropical Cay was located near all the nightlife. The room needed many repairs. Very outdated, no towels in the rooms and when ... I did get towels they were very hard (not soft to clean your body with). Not much hot water from the shower and from the faucet no cold water. Tile falling off walls in bathroom but for the price it was worth it.

What a dump
Linda Oct 25, 2008
Tropic Cay Beach Resort is about two weeks from the wrecking ball. The pool was extremely dirty. There was no way you could ... even think of swimming in it. Our room was old and dilapitated. There was no outlet in the bathroom for use of a blow dryer nor was there an outlet anywhere near the only mirror. I had to blow dry my hair with my boyfriend holding this little handhelp mirror that I brought with me. One morning after the maid service, she didn't leave any towels at all. We had to track her down to get towels. There were bugs crawling all over the stove. We had to keep everything in the fridge so that bugs wouldn't get into it. Everything about this hotel was disgusting.

Wisland Oct 25, 2008
I really don't have any words for this place. When we first went into the room I can tell immediately that this isn't going ... to be a place I can come to again. Don't get me wrong the hotel staff were great but the room wasn't so great. If you want something cheap and near the beach then go with this place.

Great beach location but ready for demolition
Raul Oct 1, 2008
The building and rooms are not maintained awaiting sale of the location. Upon arrival I was assigned a room smaller and ... without kitchen, which was the main reason for choosing this hotel since I was going to be there for 8 days / 6 nights. One with kitchen cabinets falling apart, missing utensils, mold in the bathroom, etc. and another much better that the kitchen range/burners did not work, but had a new refrigerator, microwave, oven and coffee maker. I was able to manage since I was alone. If my wife had been with me she would have died staying there.

Stay South by Las Olas Blvd or north of Sunrise. The beach renovation is not completed. During high-tide the water comes up to the street level and during day time the beach sand is wet and dirty from all debri left during the night...it reminded me of Miami's South Beach 40 years ago.

The location of the hotel is exceptionally great. It is located right across the street from the beach. I would gladly stay ... in this hotel on my next visit to Ft. Lauderdale, only minutes away from the shopping strip and just a few minute walk to beach, makes this establishment well worth your time and money. It was a very good value and we are very happy we chose it.

I have stayed at this hotel a number of times and always have a great time. You are right on the beach. You can cook right in ... your room if you like and the manager is the nicest guy and is a great help if you have any questions about the area. He has treated us well. I am sorry to hear that this hotel will only be around for two more years. Very close to everything.

Just across the street from the beach, and within walking distance of many nice restaurants, which is mainly what we were ... looking for. The room was clean enough with fridge and microwave, the only amenities missing were a coffeemaker. My personal favorite amenity was the poolside bar! My only complaint was the paper-thin walls, we could hear every word our neighbors said.
