We came for parent's visiting weekend at Colorado College. We had hoped to have our student and some of his friends over to ... swim in the pool, but it was unheated i.e. cold. The breakfast could hardly be called breakfast. Weak coffee, dry cereal, instant oatmeal, instant waffles, unripe bananas. Ugg. But the rooms were quiet and the staff was friendly and helpful. The first room they gave us reeked of cigarette smoke and they were very nice about switching us to another room. The exercise equipment (3 items) all was in working order, so that was good.

The place was great for me! I came to the Spings for my daughter's wedding and do some sightseeing. The location made it easy ... to get to downtown, Garden of the Gods and everyplace I wanted to go. Their free breakfast was good and the staff were incredibly helpful. And it was very affordable. I enjoyed the hotel and the people immensely.

Close to main attractios of Manitou Springs, but outside of the old town itself which can be a plus due to middle of the day traffic. Seven falls, Garden of the Gods, Cave of the Winds, Cog Railway,Cliff dwellings etc all a few minutes drive away. Short drive over to Colorado Ave for dining locations.

We went to Chipotle Grill in downtown Co. Springs. There were lots of other little restaurants in that area I would like to try. Arabica (Middle Eastern food) was also good. We ate at Stagecoach Inn in Manitou Springs--it was OK though my trout had a very strange seasoning on it. There was not anything closeby to eat that did not require a short drive in the car--these places are not visible from the main drag that the hotel is on--have to take a few turns, but it is worth it to search for that little area of Colorado City or even downtown Co. Springs that is actually very close. We had a very nice meal at Elephant Bar which is on Academy Drive not far from USAFA--lovely decor and a very good meal, not terribly expensive, and great service in that restaurant.

If you eat lunch at a sit down location, it is often less expensive than dinner, we ate at "Black Eyed Pea" for $5.99 a plate and they had a good menu. We took back a lunch plate and put in the fridge and microwaved it later on so we did not have to go back out at night these were provided in the room we were assigned to. This does save a little money for the next days events.

Average, but it met the requirements
JB in CO Sep 21, 2009
Needed a hotel for a one night stay so we could enjoy the local tourist attractions. Hotel is close to all the main ones (Cog ... Railway, Garden of the Gods, etc) which is very nice. Not too sure about the "newly remodeled" part of the hotel description, can't say we saw that. "Free Deluxe Continental Breakfast" is average OJ, a few waffle machines, two types of cereal, milk, coffee and some fruit. Beds were comfortable, pillows were very average, room size is good, though bathrooms were underwhelming, appeared clean but nothing much more to say other than it was a bathroom. Given we only wanted an overnight stay at a reasonable price with a respectable breakfast... this hotel met our needs, had we been needing to stay longer a different (more expensive?) option might have been a better choice.

Not fancy, but a great value
USAFA Mom Sep 12, 2009
We were visiting USAFA, and also took in local attractions, which the hotel was very close to. I thought the coffee in the ... morning was a little weak, but everything else at breakfast was fine. I wish there had been real cream for the coffee instead of powder--i used the milk for cereal instead, that was OK. When we first arrived I was a little disappointed that the decor seemed very drab, but by the end of our stay I was completely won over by the friendly staff, cleanliness of the rooms, comfortable beds, and the courtesy, quiet, and friendliness of fellow guests. I liked the very fast and free computer available in the lobby that we used to plan much of our trip in the local area. The hotel is not terribly close to USAFA, but I heard stories from other travelers about overcrowding and poor service in the bigger places close to the Academy which are about twice the price, so in the end I thought we had a very good deal, and I would stay at the Colorado Springs Travelodge in the future. It was very convenient to Garden of the Gods, Pikes Peak, and the very charming downtown and Old Colorado City areas.

we were greeted nicely on check in, told no long distance on the phones available. They did have a nice breakfast if you have ... more than one child the pool is somewhat small but breaks the standard "stay in the room and watch tv" type hotel. The only thing that concerned me was that they never relayed messages to me i have work in a hotel and this is very important to guest, i was waiting on someone to contact me and i thought that they were not going to and they actually did but the front desk said they could not take a message i am sure glad this was not an actual emergency with my family. This may be why i may not stay again i don't carry a cell phone and even if i did i would have liked to have gotten my messages.

We went to Colorado Sky Sox game (AAA for Colorado Rockies) and they had fireworks after the game (every Friday night home ... game). The next morning , it was less than 10 minutes to the Pikes Peak Cog Railway. Take it slow going through the scenic town of Manitou Springs since speed limit is 20 mph. Arrived, Hotel had doors wide open to anything. Had to wait for attendant to come up front for 10 minutes. Overall room was ... decent, roughed up toilet seat, and no remote for the TV. The A/C did not nearly work as good as it should have. We were able to swim the first night, all 2 nights that followed, they claimed the pool was closes for "Cleaning." It would have been nice for a heads up from them, so that we could move to another hotel, my son loves to swim, just turned 2. Overall, we enjoyed the trip, but the hotel left us with a bad taste.

Wonderful Week in Colorado Springs
Twinpack Jun 8, 2009
The motel might be a little out of the way, but it is well worth it. The staff (all of them) were wonderful. They helped ... with directions, check-ins, check-outs, and even gave us some great places to eat that were off the beaten path. The pool is small, but well worth it. When they say heated, they mean it. The beds were the most comfortable I have ever had at a motel. The breakfast is great and they always have coffee available and hot water for hot chocolate which my kids loved. We will stay there again on our next trip to Colorado Springs.

Not quite up to expectations
Fred Jun 5, 2009
The motel did not have traffic noise, but the walls were very thin and there is a lot of noise from other rooms. The mattres ... had to have been pre-civil war. It sagged like a two dollar suitcase and the springs were felt all night. It gave a really bad back ache. The carpet in the room was stained but it didn't have any holes in it. The rooms and bathroom were kept clean.

Academy Graduation 2009
2009 graduation mom May 29, 2009
We required 19 hotel nights (2 rooms for 7 nights and 1 room for 5 nights) to accomodate our family for the week long events ... surrounding the AFA Graduation. Our son graduated with the 2009 class. I required something central, easy access and budget friendly. The staff was able to accomodate most of our requests (refrigerator/microwave in the room but not if combined with handicap accessible). We took advantage of the continental breakfast in the morning which saved us money. The only complaint I have is one of our rooms had a distinct musty odor - we did not mention it to the staff as the family members in the room were not concerned and they did not want to change rooms. However I would not have been able to tolerated this for an entire week.

It's not fancy but it worked. Good location for lots of area attractions and the price was right. The free breakfast was ... nice. Room was clean but very basic. Due to an unexpected late March snow storm, we did spend more time in the hotel than usual. Would have preferred being OUT and about.

The Pikes Peak drive is very breath taking. Santa can be visited on the way to Pikes Peak at The North Pole. The Wolf refuge is a little way out but worth the visit, just make a appointment
