A convenient, very reasonable downtown m
Gene Jul 9, 2009
VERY convenient to downtown. Rooms were plain and simple but clean. Unfortunately, I lost my wallet by the door of the room. ... Staff was helpful and concerned about this. It was a very bad situation as I was leaving for 3 weeks in China in 3 days but their attitude did help.

This motel is close to the very downtown of Portland and this downtown is an active one, both during the day and at night. So, it is very well positioned (the motel) for shopping, dining, nightlife and business and banking.

Try Le Pigeon; a bit expensive, but the menu, wine list and ambiance is worth it.

Not good
supershopper Apr 22, 2009
The motel was very old, with sealant on the shower door where it had been broken. The paint was peeling off the edges of the ... walls. As far as the staff, I only saw the front desk staff when I checked in. Any other time, they were nowhere to be found. It was also a concern when there were "Written Guidelines for Safety" in the room.

good for a night out on the town
Leslie Sep 23, 2008
I wanted a good cheap room for a night to be near a club in Portland. This was my second stay at the Thriftlodge. It is near ... good restaurants and feels pretty safe. The manager is very nice, friendly and helpful. I would stay here again. The hotel across the street costs more and you get less.

Good value
James Aug 27, 2008
Thrifty lodge was an excellent value, centrally located for exploring all of Portland. Its right across the bridge from ... downtown on E. Burn- side Ave., the dividing line between north and south. The rooms were nothing fancy but were clean. The showers were old fashioned in a good way- tiled with good water pressure. The neighborhood can be loud on the weekends but it suited my needs and I felt safe.

the Doug Fir is right across the street, a very cool alt. rock club/bar that serves very good food, including breakfast, as well.

Good first visit
Karalyn Mar 9, 2008
The Thriftlodge is located on one of the main streets in Portland, so it was just a short walk to restaraunts, shopping and ... downtown. The gentleman at check in was very pleasant and helped with directions around the city. The room was clean and included a mini frig and microwave. Having two beds in the room made it a little snug between the sleeping area and the bathroom but not uncomfortable.
