I gave the hotel 5 stars because it was the most beautiful view that I have ever experienced... the pics do not do this hotel ... nor the view any justice; it was just perfect... I went with my best friend, but this is more suited for couples... but hey, the "romantic" & ethereal setting worked out great for me... the one restaurant option ["ocean"], was ok [the other restaurant was closed]... the options were scarce, but simon was a great waiter... room service was a better option [24/7], but the prices were jacked up... the hotel is 30 min from the airport, this is a hilly island [for driving], & we went during off-season [june-oct], when nothing is popping off, so there was no night life & we were far from everything... but the view and having the pools/ clear-blue water ocean practically to ourselves in late september was worth the 5 stars alone... but overall a 4-star is more deserving if you're going to be there off season...our wonderful cab driver told us that peak season is november-may...november 11 is the anniversary of the island...

Our trip was one we take every year we have been to 15 islands in 20 years. this Westin is tops its clean and new. I had to ... get a car as we wanted to see the island so its not that expensive to rent for the week. We enjoyed our little trips around the island each day after our breakfast at the hotel. the proces are high but that is to be expected. Also if you travel you know a tip here and there always gwts you good service and big smiles. the pool area is fanstastic, the pools are clean and the water is escellent. the ocean is crystal clear, we havent seen this water in a while as its the time of storms in Oct. food is nice at mr. Busbys and Big fish just up the road we ate there ach night as the prices at the hotel are very $$$$ for evening meals. We did eat 2 nights and the food was excellent. there is a store downtown called RIMAS, its the place to get all your gifts and stuff you want to bring home as memories. El Rancho down in Phillipsburg is mexican very good food and go watch the planes come in to the airport at the Bliss bar its amamzing site to see. Enjoy this island its a busy place and you have lots to see and do. If you want quiet and relaxation also you stay at your beach or pool, the Westin is tops... in our opinion!

Hidden Pleasure on St. Maarten
Eric Aug 28, 2009
We visited the Westin at Dawn Beach in low season (August) and enjoyed a great escape from summer crowds at home. Low season ... may be a bit too quiet for some, especially if you like a lively crowd at night in bars and restaurants. However, the beach is all yours during the day, so pick any spot you want, pull up a chair and swim on a stretch of beach in peace and quiet with only the sounds of crashing waves to distract you. The beachfront pool is spectacular and warm with a nice swim-up bar for refreshment. The rooms are very large, and we were upgraded to oceanfront room upon arrival--a pleasant surprise. Bathrooms are modern and have separate tub and shower facilities. The shower was a tile and glass pane masterpiece. Private balcony overlooking the massive pool and white-sand beach and palms was heaven. The only downside with regard to the peaceful remoteness of this resort is that dining options do not exist near the hotel, so a rental car is essential if you want to explore. I'd be happy staying put next time though because this place is such a treat for all the senses.

It was the nicest place we saw on the island, but our air conditioner flooded our room. The bathroom was not cleaned very ... well, as there was pubic hair all over the floor. The food and beer was extremely expensive. The resort needed more places to eat and was extremely far from most desired locations on the island.

Relaxing Stay At The Westin Dawn Beach
gappu1 Aug 4, 2009
We stayed at the Westin Dawn Beach for 5 nights during the end of July. The resort is located on an amazing beach with ... beautiful views of turqoise water. Pros 1) Great Location, beautiful lobby, fast and friendly check in 2) Awesome Pool and Jacuzzi 3) Spacious rooms with Heavenly soft bedding 4) 32'' LCD TV 5) Amazing chef at the Ocean Restaurant who customized meals for us. Cons 1) Isolated location; Need a rental car or Taxis (not cheap). Driving here is a task in itself, forget walking to places. 2) The worse Conceirge I have ever come across. On 4 different occasions he gave us inaccurate information to restaurants, markets and directions. Very impatient and horrible with directions. 3) Some items that make this place lousy: Mold in bathroom shower area, no sun umbrellas around the pool, horrible housekeeping hours (our room was done at 3 pm daily). 4) Super expensive Spa, Pricey drinks, Internet Access Fee (however free wi-fi if you can sit in the lobby) Reviews are always an individual's perspective on their specific experience so this review may sound absurd to some other guests who have stayed at this hotel.
Traveler type: Family
If you are looking for a great breakfast / brunch location, skip the $21.50 brunch at Ocean and head over to Ms Busby. Great food with a location that wakes you up. Mama's Pizza is also another great location for great casual lunch / dinner. If you can hike up and down hills, then these locations are walkable.

Great but Windy side of island
VW Jul 31, 2009
This hotel is located on the windy side of the island pretty isolated from any other activities so on a windy day the beach ... is rough, making snorkeling a task. Some of the bell men were nice and two of the bartenders made it worth staying at the hotel for a few drinks. Others pretended that they didn't see you and it took effort for them to crack a smile. The women at the front desk were helpful. I do not think I would stay at this location again.

Frub Jul 13, 2009
An overall wonderful experience. The hotel staff was very polite and friendly. Everyone was very accommodating. We ... especially enjoyed the Breakfast buffet. The food was excellent, especially the Omelet bar and the service was outstanding. We liked the beach because it was very quiet and private. We visted Orient Beach down the road and were shocked at how chaotic it was. What we liked a great deal was the location. It was very easy to travel to the French side and we found excellent restaurtants nearby. I would definitely recommend this resort to couples--not alot for kids to do.

Everything you need is at the Westin
Old Married Couple Jul 7, 2009
The Westin has everything you need in one big resort. The beach is beautiful (the water is a bit rough for swimming and ... snorkeling, but still great), the pool is huge with a swim-up bar. The food is excellent and our room was very nice with a balcony view of the ocean. We rented a car for exploring, ate our way across the island, took a day trip to Pinell Island, shopped in the towns. The best part of each day was coming back to the Westin to "chill" on the beach or in the pool. This trip was TOO SHORT!

Great hotel at Westin St. Maarten but
Rob Jul 1, 2009
We arrived at the hotel which is in a more remote location on the eastern part of the island. The hotel is prboably the ... nicest and most updated on the island ( very modern look). Very nicely decorated with a lots of amenties. The staff are very helpfull and welcoming. We had some issues with cleaning a room that we had been moved to but they fixed it as soon as we complained. The staff are very curtious and considerate but clearly lack some managerial skills. We got phone calls in the middle of the night by mistake. Overall I would still go back to this hotel if location is not a problem. The waters are rough on the eastern shore but if you like to drive around it shouldn't be a problem. The best beaches on the island are on the north and north west part Happy Bay/ Friar's and Bay Longe.

My husband and I vacate and do nothing which is what we did on this particular trip. So it was good for that purpose. We ... were a little alarmed as we drove to the hotel, didn't like the areas we drove thru to get there, but that seems to be common for other islands we visted as well. We did visit Front St. to do some shopping and was harrassed by the natives, but there again, common for islanders.
