when we arrived at 8 pm, they told us we were already checked in, which turned out to be another man with the same name. they ... had no record of our reservation. not sure where the disconnect was between orbitz and westin. We were told there were no rooms left. While she went into the back room to investigate, another person walked in off the street and got a room and another guest even got a free upgrade to a 2 bedroom suite. Then they 'found' a room for us. it was not a nice location and not what we paid for. then we went to their patio restaurant for dinner. after we had already waited 45 minutes for our food, a party of two and a party of ten came in and each got their dinners in only 15 minutes. there were only 5 occupied tables and several waiters. after waiting a full hour, when we flagged down the waiter, he advised, 'hey, we're really busy back there'. this was after traveling since 4 am and having a 5 hour layover after we missed the 3rd leg of our flight. after an exhausting day, we finally went to bed hungry and ready to go back home. not a nice way to start our honeymoon. they did move us to a nice room the next night. the prior night, including the dinner that never came, were 'no charge'. they did work with us to make it right. We also tried the boat ride over to their private island for dinner at the beach cafe. The name is deceiving, as 'beach cafe' doesn't sound like a high dollar establishment to me. when the bill came, we were shocked to find out the the dinner 'special' that night was $75/person, just for the entree. the food was tasty, the waiter was great and the view was pretty, but that was a bit pricey, especially while swatting mosquitos that ate us alive. I believe the hotel concierge should mention the pricing and recommend bug spray when booking your reservation. but, on the other hand, when we advised the boat's first mate that another couple had just realized they lost their camera somewhere on the way to the cafe, they called back to the main hotel to ask if anyone had seen it. the front desk confirmed it had been turned in. we tipped the mate and asked if he could bring it back on the next trip, which he did. something good always seemed to make up for something that was not so good. the pool area was lovely and the bartenders were quick and friendly. the room was spotlessly cleaned daily. the bed was quite comfortable and the room was super quiet. even though we were right where the cruise ships docked, we never heard a thing. the sunset views from the their sunset deck bar were astonishing. great photos - guaranteed! really recommend renting a scooter or bikes. a car is pretty much not necessary and parking is limited. park carefully, as we found out the hard way that tickets are dispensed freely! we got married barefoot on smathers beach, which was lovely. the gals at monroe county courthouse were very pleasant and helpful. beware - cab ride prices vary drastically. for the exact same ride, one charged $30 and another $16. try the pedicabs. cheap and those guys work hard! good bartenders at Cowboy Bills and the Mex food is awesome.

Good Honeymoon Location
Jodi Jul 11, 2008
The Westin Key West was very comfortable. The room was a nice size for the two of us with a bed, chair, desk, tv, and mini ... bar. The hotel is located right on the water and we were upgraded to an ocean view upon arrival when they realized it was our honeymoon. The hotel even sent us a bottle of wine and chocolate covered strawberries. The only issue with the view was that the cruise ships pull up to dock right in front of the view. The hotel is within walking distance to Mallory Square (don't miss the sunset celebration) and Duvall Street. We went to a restaurant for dinner called Roof Top Cafe - excellent food. The concierge was very knowledgable and guided us to excellent things to do while in Key West. We would definitely go back again.

A Comfortable Vacation Stay
Kay Jun 28, 2007
The Westin Key West Inn and Marina was the most comfortable hotel I have ever stayed in. The room was spacious and very ... clean. The hotel staff was very accommodating in every way. We rode our motorcycles to Key West to stay and were caught in the rain. The valet had us park the bikes at the front where he could keep an eye on them and even arranged to have a water hose and cleaning supplies for us to wash the bikes. Service doesn't get any better than that! I would highly recommend this hotel. The pool area was just beautiful and overlooked the Gulf at sunset.

There was everything from dining to shopping to local night attactions real close to the hotel. I highly recommend renting the electric car to tour Key West and see it all.

We're used to staying at some of the local places and they can't hold a candle to the national standards of The Key West ... Westin. Really a nice resort. Bedding was confortable, pool area was nice. Everything was really enjoyable. Bonus--they were able to hold our bags and offer a place to shower in the fitness center on our departure day.

The Westin is right in the center of all the activity in Key West. I have stayed at several other hotels in the area, and ... this is by far the nicest. Walk outside to sit by the marina and have your morning coffee or to Mallory Square for the sunset celebration. Room was clean, all white sheets and bedspreads, balcony to sit outside. Wished we could have stayed longer....

My wife and I spent our 20 year aniversary at the Westin. The facitlity & staff were a home run, contrary to some of the ... reviews we read. We had a partial view of the ocean & pool. The cruise ships were in and out, and did not interfere with our view ecspeicially at sunset. Thank you Westin Staff

Theodore May 11, 2007
This was a wonderful hotel with a great location to Duvall Street and Mallory Square. There are 2 museums next door to the ... hotel worth seeing too. It was very clean, maintained and the staff were very friendly and helpful. It's a little on the expensive side, but if you want to splurge it is definately the way to go. Dining, shopping, nightlife and recreation were all within walking distance from this hotel. We enjoyed our 3 day stay there very much and would return the next time we go to Key West.

Overpriced compared to similar hotels in the same area
Lesley May 4, 2007
The room was not very special. No price lists were given for an item from the regrigerator, other than a bottle of water was ... $5.50. I treated a friend to this get away and was disappointed that room service was so expensive, by adding a 20% charge instead of the option of my leaving a tip amount, they then charged tax on the food and $2.95 to deliver the food to your room. No prices were listed on the menu except for breakfast items. Compared to other hotels, there was nothing special about the room decor, especially when I have been to Key West beach hotels before. One bottle of water was free for the 2 people in a room, and it was not replaced when my friend drank it. All personnel were extremely polite and helpful, but the hotel did not list that they charge $12 a day to park your car. Every aspect of the hotel was above the costs of what we expected, and unless you like hidden costs, this is not the hotel for comfort and convenience to Duval Street, shopping and dining outside the hotel at reasonable costs. I would have booked a different hotel if I had known how little we would receive for the money. I love Key West but was disappointed with this trip. Reality: I paid for two beds and the services I normally use when traveling, such as morning breakfasts in the hotel room to start my day, but the hotel charged too much for these services - maybe to make up for the renovations??

The hotel offers a dinner cruise that is slightly expensive but everyone raves about - it goes out for the sunset. We went on a sunset sail and had a nice time, but there is no real seating - the crew was great. It is a short walk to the sunset festival, shopping, attractions, and nightlife which is what we wanted.

The Westin is a little on the expensive side, but everything is in Key West. The location is as good as it gets ... in the ... harbor and very close to Duval. The rooms are great and the beds are SOOOOO comfy. The only downside is the cruise ship that docks in front of the hotel several days per week that block some of the wonderful view.

Great location in Key West
Rebecca Apr 25, 2007
We went to Key West for our anniversary and stayed at the Westin. The location is fantastic. You can walk to all the great ... restaurants and actvities. The hotel is located right on the waterfront and next to Mallory square. Many things to see right out the front door including the famous sunsets. Duval street is just a few blocks away as is the Truman Whitehouse. The hotel room was nice, clean and had great linens and a very comfortable mattress. The staff were very helpful and gave us great suggestions for places to go. We even received a bottle of champagne and fresh strawberries with chocolate in our room for our anniversary. We would definely stay there again.
Traveler type: Business
Enjoyed the Hemmingway House and the Truman Whitehouse. We took the boatride at the Westin out to their island called Sunset Key for a nice dinner. Good breakfasts were at Turtle Kraul and at Cheeseburgers. We had a nice seafood dinner at Pisces.
