Office scheduled to close at 5:00pm but was closed at 4:40pm. Air Conditioner unit did not cool properly. Promised room ... cleaning after a 3 day stay did not occur. Shampoo was in previously used plastic containers with the seal already broken. Male office staffer was surly.

This is a 1950's motel that has not been upgraded. It might be OK for a family on a tight budget that wanted a place with a ... kitchenette near the beach. The air conditioner was so noisy that I had to turn it off to get any sleep and the bathroom cleanliness left a lot to be desired. Floor is linoleum and overall it was a depressing room. I arrived at 8 PM and no one was in office - I called and was told the key to the room was in an envelope by the door - I did find it.

We went on a boat ride in the Everglades which was pretty cool! We also attended Marlins baseball games which was 20 minutes away and easy to get good seats.

You get what you pay for
Marty Jul 20, 2009
My son and I stayed there to go to watch the Phillies play the Marlins. The hotel was very quiet. No frills, no service (our ... remote kept failing and nobody showed up to fix it), no maid service or fresh towels unless you special request it, hit or miss office help (closed on Sunday, we had to check out before 8 am on Monday and the office wasn't open so we had to just leave, nor was any instruction on how to check out if the office was closed), room had a kitchenette with full size refrigerator. If you are looking for something close to the beach on the cheap...this is for you! This hotel offers the basics only which was fine for my son and myself (my wife would not have enjoyed this room). It did have free wireless access and free parking. The staff was very friendly when you did see them.

The mouse that roared
disappointed Jul 16, 2009
I spent my last night sitting on my bed looking for a mouse that was running in my room the entire night ,guess it was ... looking for an escape route.I never left any windows opened,or any doors opened escept to go outof the room ,so my guess is that the mouse got in through some crack somewhere.I was told at the front desk that they do not have a problem with mice/rats. There were also a few roaches in the room .It was an awful experience to say the least. The garbage bin was in front of the hotel and quite near the end where my room was located so that may have been the reason why rodents were able to enter the hotel rooms.

Hard Bed, Great Time
Don Jul 5, 2009
The beds were hard. Some people like that, we did not. It was very close to the beach, but parking was iffy because of ... nearby construction and people used more than one space per car. The bathrooms are nice, but extremely small. The staff was very friendly, as were the other guests. It is not close to dining and there was no coffee supplied for the room. It has a kitchenette, with dishes, cooking gear, a microwave, coffee pot, and refrigerator. Nice overall for a 2-4 day stay.

Good location
Marchfish Jun 22, 2009
The only wonderful thing that I liked about this hotel was the location, just steps away from a very friendly white sand ... beach. Also, if you enjoy walking or running, the boardwalk is not far away. Regarding the room, I had trouble sleeping due to the a/c unit. Had trouble opening the door. If there would have been an emergency I would have to jump through the window. No one came to clean my room during the two days stay.

convenient and good value
cuckatoo May 8, 2009
Simple motel close to the beach, minimum frills, cable TV. Rooms have free ethernet access - I received a cable for free from ... the Office, which is more than I can say for Hilton, Sheraton or Intercontinental. The rooms are nothing to write home about, simplicity itself, yet for the price and location the value is there. I have no complaints. Only met the staff at check in and out - they were competent, friendly and helpful.

Relaxing and inexpensive
Lee, a frequent traveler Apr 25, 2009
This quiet, unpretentious spot exceeded my expectations. Who needs a pool when the ocean is a hop, skip and a jump away? ... With the "old fashioned" style parking in a central lot, I never heard car doors slamming under my bedroom window. What a relief! For those who might have a handicap carrying their luggage, it could definitely be a problem, but as two healthy seniors it was easy enough for us. The area is like a taste of Old Florida with winding paths beach-side under the magnificent tropical landscaping of the nearby homes and bed and breakfast spots. The buildings are two-story stucco and rooms are modestly furnished. There were some kitchen facilities included (microwave, refrigerator, kitchen sink). If you're looking for lots of room, you won't find it here. Not intending to spend much time in the room, it worked perfectly for us. There was no maid service, however the inexpensive cost of a room so near the beach more than made up for it. There are a number of food options within a reasonable driving distance, including some at the State Park boardwalk nearby.

My one warning would be to get good directions to The Waves. The area is somewhat confusing and it took us several tries to find it. I'm glad we weren't looking after dark!

Party Hotel?
Patricia Feb 9, 2008
This hotel was clean and the staff was friendly and helpful when available (desk closed at 6 pm and was still closed when we ... checked out in the morning.) It seemed to be a party hotel, with a boistrous Happy hour taking place in the courtyard when we checked in. I felt that the happy hour might have continued for a long time if it had not rained. The room was very clean, if somewhat dated, and had all the amenities you would expect. Road construction and general street configuration in the area made finding the hotel and local restaraunts a challenge. Parking was not near the rooms, and there were no elevators. It was located close to the Ft. Lauderdale airport, which was our main reason for choosing it.

My review of The Waves Apartments & Resort
a Jan 27, 2008
I would recomend this property to a person interested in visiting the beach and would recommend this property to someone who ... is OK staying at an older place. The rooms were clean but very old and reminded me of an old cabin in the woods However, this place is RIGHT on the beach and if you are into the beach it is a perfect location. That being said the location is definately worth it and if you have a bunch of kids who just want to hang out at the beach and you don't care about having a classy place, this establishment is well worth the trip.
