Pricy but still great
Bigkumadog Oct 11, 2009
My friend came to visit and I took her to several sights around town. The hotel was very grand and she enjoyed the ... architecture, but there was several things that would of made this trip a ten that were missing. First there was no pool or hot tub at the hotel but they did offer one several blocks away. Second the parking fees were expensive at 32 dollars a night. Third wireless internet cost me almost thirty dollars for the several nights I was there. Finally the room felt small. On the positive side the staff were great room service was prompt and everything was clean and comfortable. I would recommend this hotel if price was not a concern.

Beautiful with great ambience
TFP Oct 11, 2009
The hotel was very nice and staff excellent. However, [...] misrepresented the room. You said "pillow top bed" without ... specifying how big it was, even though I had put down 2 guests. It turned out that it was a full size bed. Fortunately, the hotel was very understanding and let me upgrade to another room ($60 per night). It was much more expensive than I had planned. Please be honest in your advertisements.

It is a beautiful and centrally located hotel in downtown. It is peaceful inside and the rooms are a great size with very ... comfortable beds. The only drawback is the noise downtown (which would happen pretty much anywhere downtown).

Everything but the Front Desk
stats Aug 2, 2009
Really enjoyed the room and the concierge staff was outstanding, the valets were great as well, but the check in was awful. ... The front desk clerk ([...] I believe) was rude, saw that we booked online and gave us horrid service as opposed to the previous patrons and the guests behind us. Did not appreciate his attitude regardless if I got a deal for the room or not.

Weekend getaway
Honeymooners Apr 22, 2009
We booked room over internet and selected a queen bed. Upon arrival there were no queen beds only a room with 2 fulls. The ... front desk was to call us to let us know if a room became available and we never heard from them. The front desk was less than sympathetic (young woman) and could have utilzied better customer service skills.

Elegance at the Gaslamp
Marc Mar 15, 2009
This is a beautiful hotel. Even though it is older, the rooms are still a respectable size, very nicely appointed and the ... property is in outstanding condition. Right at the Gaslamp District, so there are many dining and entertainment options just out the door.

Deserving of 5 Stars!!!
Richard Sep 7, 2008
I was incredibly impressed with the US Grant. We stayed in the Landmark Suite which consisted of a well appointed one ... bedroom, with one and a half bathrooms. The attention to detail, choice of furniture, interior design, luxurious linens, Bose Surround Sound DVD with Plasma, custom carpets, wide-plank dark wood floors, and modern marble bathrooms, rivaled the St. Regis and Four Seasons where I typically stay. And the price was 1/2 what I normally pay for the same sized space. I couldn't believe it. I expected to find something more in par with the Luxury Collection Hotels I've been to in the past but I was wrong. It's on an entirely different level of luxury. Congratulations US Grant on transforming this hotel with your 56 million redesign! The service was as impressive as the room. I was waited on hand and foot from the second I pulled up to the hotel. I felt like I was at the Ritz in Paris. While it is apparent that the staff is young, they have been well-trained to meet your every need. Once again, my expectations were exceeded. Well done! I look forward to staying there again the next time I'm in San Diego. Think I'm being too enthusiastic? Go check it out for yourself. I'm not kidding.

The recent renovations coupled with a well trained and helpful staff were what one would expect in a 5 star hotel. Located in ... walking distance from Harbor Drive and all it had to offer, as well as the vast array of restaurants on 5th, we were well pleased with our stay.
