I stayed here for 2 nights, room with a king sized bed, while visiting my daughter. This is one of the better priced hotels ... in the area, especially if purchased online. It's location is good as it's close to a lot of the area. It is a cute place, with a tropical feel as it has a lot of landscaping with palm trees and other plants and flowers throughout the hotel grounds. Has two swimming pools - one up front by the entrance, and a smaller one further in by some of the rooms. This one also has a jacuzzi and the look around this pool/jacuzzi is very nice and you feel like you are in an oasis! The rooms were tropical looking as well, with white paint and turquoise/pink bedspreads, etc. The free breakfast was pretty good - choices of hard boiled eggs, donuts/bagels/bread, yogurt, packaged breakfast burritos, cereal, etc. Juice machine and cappucino machine, as well as brewed coffee. The staff was friendly and helpful. Nice sized flat screen TV. Restaurants within walking distance. The down side - for the price (my average was $110/night), I'd expect the rooms to be a little more up to date. The A/C is a window unit installed in the wall. It worked ok, but just didn't look the best. No bathtub - not sure if all the rooms didn't have one, or just the type of room I reserved. The ceiling in the shower was pretty low - if you are well over 6' tall, you might have a problem. The shower head was kind of low, as well, and older fixtures. The toilet seat in the room kept slipping off to one side - annoying! The blinds in the bathroom and back side of the room were a bit worn. Very small refrigerator, compared to other hotels I've stayed. Room size was ok, but a little cramped with the furniture they had in there. Our room backed to an apartment complex, which was probably better than if it was a busy road. One night we heard someone watching a football game, and it was fairly loud - but luckily, they did not watch it late and all was quiet after that. My biggest complaint I think was that there was about a 1 inch gap under the door, so potential of bugs getting in. The towels were a little rough, and some should have been replaced. Some of the pillows should have been replaced as well (I had one that felt like the foam had broken apart and was like a bunch of small balls inside). So, overall, it was a good stay. But as you see, did have some complaints.

The rooms are quiet because they are far back from the street. DVD library at the desk, free wi-fi in the room. The pool area ... is nicely landscaped, a good place to eat the free breakfast (cereal, oatmeal, bagels, donuts, fruit, yogurt, boiled eggs, microwave burrito, juices, coffee/tea). Good bed and pillows. Free passes for the YMCA across the street - very nice. This is not a fancy place, but convenient and comfortable. This was my second stay and I'll stay again.

Overall this is a pleasant place to stay for one or two nights. It is within easy access to the freeway, and it is very easy ... to locate. If we could find it, so could anyone else! Pools are great--two of them! Close to many convenicences. On the down side. . .some of the rooms are very close to a rather routy sports bar. Make sure that you ask for a room on the quiet side of the hotel,(if noise is a factor in your stay) and this should take care of that issue. Water pressure was not good in our room, but perhaps it was fine in other rooms. . .? All in all, I would stay there again, taking into consideration the information I already have.

Dingy cheap hotel!
Cindy Oct 7, 2009
The first thing I noticed when I got to my room was the light fixture fixture was broken (not the bulb), when I got into the ... room it looked decent, but when you looked closer you could see the wall were dirty, the mini blinds were broken and taped back together, and the blinds also did not keep the light out of the room. All night I thought it was day light outside.

Great Location, room a little smelly
Ocean Lover Oct 5, 2009
Did not spend much time at hotel, we were in a section that was 2-story, we were on the lower floor. Our room was a little ... smelly, like someone has not been following the no smoking rules, luckily with the windows open and a little air freshener it was just fine. We had the unfortunate next door neighbor who had someone knocking for about a 1/2 hr (no joke) @ 11:00 PM. It was the talk of complete strangers the next AM.

Student Budget Sep 22, 2009
A student doing interviews.. Only stayed one night and was looking for a great deal, aka needed to go cheap, but did not want ... a dump. So we were not expecting a resort, but hoped it was above a cheap motel and man were we pleasantly surprised. Staff was amazing, clean large rooms, all amenities provided, free DVD library, huge flatscreen TV, bathroom well stocked, one of the best complimentary breakfasts I have had (including at 4 star hotels) in the variety they provided, free internet. Scenic 5-10min drive to touristy spots and beach.

termites checked into our room...
not a bug lover Aug 6, 2009
The room was infested with termites. When I turned down the sheets there were bugs inside the bed and all over the pillows. ... It must be noted that I saw extensive dry rot work being done on the wood outside our room so perhaps it was just a nest that been disturbed and had then swarmed inside.

We wanted to spend a night out of town for the first time in three years. Sandman sits outside downtown Santa Barbara, ... underneath some great palm and sycamore trees. It looks modest from the street, one story construction looks vintage. There are two pools, one visible as you pull in. The front desk was wo-manned by three very pretty young ladies. Both my lady and I were impressed by how charming and cute they were. It was like they went out and held "Pretty Eyes" auditions. The girls were quick, friendly, and professional. We loved them. We also noticed they had a mini DVD library at the front desk. Our room was off the patio near the second pool and jacuzzi. It was a very nice bed, with standard hotel comforter colors. Kitschy! Our room was clean, and convenient. We loved our King size bed! Comfy. We did walk through a few spiderwebs! Agh! Suck it up! They have a funny three page DVD review on the table with little taglines about each title. We picked one and grabbed it from the front desk for after dinner. Loved how helpful the one line reviews were. And they were right, our movie was great. We hopped in the pool for half an hour and then the jacuzzi. The outdoor patio is under the shade of these great tall palms, and we were there before sunset, so they were in full golden light. Relaxing. The pool and jacuzzi are clean and working. They are old fashioned looking, but that was sort of the charm. Other guests were friendly and shared their in jacuzzi beverages with us. Awesome. The patio is cute. It's not Vegas modern, so you can't go in expecting space age everything, this place is old school. We had a killer dinner at Pallazio's (hot waitresses, great food) and returned to watch the DVD. Settling into the bed was great. It had a fantastic mattress and very smooth comfy linens. TV was great, a new flat screen and a little dvd player. Awesome. We brought our own "beverages" and the provided ice bucket was easy to fill in the nearby machine. We woke up early and went into the breakfast room. Here they kind of impressed us. The breakfast was compact, but great! Fresh Pastries on a rack, they had a heated mini glass case with Breakfast and Chicken and Rice Burritos, Cappucino machines like you find in 7/11, same as everywhere, juice machine, and they had stacks of pancakes and waffles. They had what you want for a quick breakfast. They even had hard boiled eggs, which my jock-fox loved! Healthy! Satisfaction. All we had to do to check out was return our two key cards, say thanks, and hit the road! The sunrise is just as pretty as sunset through all those trees. We loved Sandman Inn.

Free DVD library made for a great end of the night! Who wants to pay for in room movies? Plus it gives you an excuse to flirt with the front desk foxes. That's what my lady said, anyway. xD

Location is far from downtown, but just as far from UCSB - so its a draw. Also complex is older and shows it. Room was ... smaller than most current modern rooms. Needed some work, but for the price it was ok. The motel has a retro flavor to it which would appeal to some. The resturant/bar on site was nice. Breakfast was not.. went elsewhere. If price is a concern its an ok place.
