In 1893, The Pfister opened its doors and became one of the nations grandest hotels and a "palace for the people." The Pfister Hotel is a 307-room luxury landmark hotel in downtown Milwaukee, featuring 24-hour room service, concierge service, valet, and indoor pool and state-of-the-art fitness center, both with great views on the 23rd floor. Elegantly restored to its original splendor, The Pfister's lobby features a heavenly ceiling reminiscent of the hotel's original skylight and the word "Salve," The Pfister's way of greeting everyone with a warm welcome. The Lobby Lounge has been the place to see and be seen for over 100 years. Over 80 original oil and watercolor paintings grace The Pfister's grand hallways, lobby and restaurants. Begun by Guido Pfister, this is the largest collection of 19th and early 20th Century Salon and Genre works on permanent display in any hotel in the world. The Pfister has been honored with numerous awards, including the AAA Four-Diamond Award for the past 27 years, the "2003 World's Best Business Hotel Award" for Milwaukee by Travel & Leisure, and has been named to the Conde Nast Traveler "Gold List of the World's Best Places to Stay."

Walk down Wisconsin Ave to the Caletrava and the art museum. You're on the lake and just a couple of blocks north is the Alterra coffee shop in the old water pump station. My favorite coffee shop in town. Great way to spend a relaxing day.

Excellent and well- not so excellent
WI to CA Sep 7, 2009
I was at this hotel to attend a wedding, and while I had previously lived in Milwaukee I had never actually been to the ... famous Pfister, The hotel was clean and wonderfully appointed, my room/suite was fantastic. Service was what one would expect for the price although I wish they had posted the price for valet parking! My major complaint is that my room was located in the "old" building directly beneath the banquet facilities. On Sunday morning from 6:30AM onwards all I could hear was floor noises from above me as though some major things were either being installed or moved around. It did not end for several hours! Also, anytime anyone with wheeled luggage went by in the hallway it sounded as if a freight train were passing. Perhaps this is only a flaw in the old building? I do not know- and as I only stayed two nights and was gone unbelievably early the last morning I was never able to see if the experience of the prior morning was repeated. My advice is do not sleep beneath the banquet hall and perhaps try the "tower."

Pfister Hotel

Great room! My daughter kept saying "this is heaven". I've stayed at the Pfister before and everything there is first ... class. Really, the best hotel in Milwaukee and right downtown so you can enjoy the lake, festival grounds, everything. You should know, parking costs $ like any big city. $30.00/day for valet service, $25.00/day to do it yourself in their lot. Hey, I was on vacation. let them park the car!

My flight landed around 9:30 a.m. and I thought I may just need to leave my bag at the hotel and poke around the city before ... the check in time. The hostess was absolutely delightful and got me into a room right away, which allowed me to enjoy the hotel a bit more during my short trip.

Not satisified, to say the least Jun 15, 2009
Our experience was horrendous. We showed up at the hotel to check in, and we were informed there were "electrical" problems ... and that we were booked at the Milwaukee Athletic Club, now while the MAC has excellent facilities, these do not rank up with the luxury of the Pfister. I was greatly disappointed to be frank. I had booked a room at the Pfister expecting to experience the grandeur of this old hotel and was bumped. I am not satisfied, to say the least.

Pfister Stay

Great downtown location where all the visting sports teams stay. Multiple local bars & restaurants run shuttles to the ... athletic venues & are very friendly to their patrons. Its also a short walk to the lakefront & museums. Our only issue was the hotel not having our reservation on file despite numerous confirmations provided by Orbitz prior to the stay. Front desk quickly confirmed & processed the room as booked.

I had a chance to visit Milwaukee WI and a few people recommended the Pfister when I asked where I should stay. I am very ... happy they we decided to listen and stay there. From the moment our taxi pulled up we were treated so nicely! The staff was very helpful with everything we needed or asked about. Our room was always clean. The beds are extremely comfortable. We had an excellent view of some of downtown and the river as well. We were in the city to see a show at the Riverside which was just a short walk from the Pfister. Also there is a shopping mall a short walk away too. Tons of stuff to do right within walking distance. I hope to have a chance to visit Milwaukee again adn I know where I will be staying again!

My hometown landmark hotel
Jay Nov 24, 2007
The Pfister Hotel was the perfect place for my wife and I to stay when we last visited my hometown. Years ago I liked to go ... to The Pfister because it housed my favorite restaurant in Milwaukee...unfortunately that establishment is now only a memory. While we did not eat at their current main restaurant, we very much enjoyed breakfasts at their cafe, and late night drinks and snacks in both their rooftop lounge and the lobby lounge. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed the victorian beauty of this hotel. On our next visit we'll probably try out one of the modern rooms in the Hotel Tower. All in all we truly enjoyed our stay and would highly recommend this world-class hotel.
