Pearl - no place to park - sketchy neigh
TPK Oct 10, 2009
Drove up to hotel at 11 pm following 4 hour flight, poorly marked, no place to park, side of building looked unkept. I was ... not going to spend the night in what I consider a dump. I drove down Harbor Blvd and stayed at a Holiday Inn. I BELIEVE I WAS RIPPED OFF BY YOUR SLOTTING OF THIS HOTEL. I PREPAID, BUT WAS NOT GOING TO SPEND THE NIGHT WONDERING IF SOMEONE WAS GOING TO BREAK IN OR KNOCK ON WHAT LOOKED LIKE A DUMP. TPK

Clean room, old bathroom fixtures. Horrible pillows with a tolerable mattress. Service was great (contrary to what was ... stated by others). I arrived at mid-night and they arranged for my AM wake-up and cab. All with a friendly disposition. I am very tired though, and my neck hurts!

"A bar hangout for the very young".
Glad to get home Oct 2, 2009
Below our room was a loud bar filled with young adults that hung out most of the night. Additionally, by the pool was a large ... screen for movie viewing. Traffic cleared up when the bar closed. Needless to say we left the next morning even though we had reservations for another night. Great place for party people.

Somewhat Cool and Trendy
SD Visitor Aug 4, 2009
This is a somewhat cool and trendy hotel/motel. The mid-century design is nice but the bathroom needs a little more work. I ... would say this place is more designed for a bar/restaurant then it is for a hotel. The atmosphere is pretty social so it can get a little loud.

"Incredible Location for the price"
Traveling Girl Jul 22, 2009
The staff were all extremely friendly and the food was outstanding. The movies they show on the screen over the pool is a ... fun option if you opt to stay in. It draws a young hip crowd which might not suit everyone. It is convenient to get to and from the San Diego airport. It is a little loud but they also point that out on their website.

Best secret stay in town...
pearl of all pearls Mar 23, 2009
We loved the hotel from the moment we checked in to the very last minute. i asked to see the other room types and they were ... very helpful. i did need to print some tix from internet and they help me out. The bar the pool the all of it is way cool.. The rooms are very retro including they actually have fish bowls with fish in them hanging on the wall. very cute and retro. Parking was a pain in the butt... So reserve a spot and pay the extra $. However on the weekends they have some kind of functions or parties and parking and room in the bar resturant front desk is way packed and busy.

A Pretty Great Value..
Mahan Aug 10, 2008
They are pretty extreme, some people love it some people hate it. But it is really new and nicely decorated and the staff was ... very friendly and helpful..and there is no bearucratic element..so they are very accomodating...if you want to go somewhere where you hang out in the hotel, while you can at the Pearl, I wouldnt stay here..but if you want to go somewhere to sleep and be comfortable and close to the beach and downtown..this is definetly worth it...save your money and eat out more!!

In San Diego..you need a car..everything is about 10 minutes away..the best part about the Pearl is that it is close to The Gaslamp District and the beach..kind of a best of both worlds!

My review of The Pearl
Will Aug 3, 2008
We live in San Diego. When we arrived, the outside looked like a motel. We had to park two blocks away and walk with our ... luggage, as there were only four parking spaces in front of the building, which were taken, not to mention that the neighborhood was definitely questionable. My wife was concerned about leaving our vehicle parked on the street but there was nothing we could do. The inside lobby was full of smoke. Don't stay here. You'll totally regret it.

Good for the price, but would rather have been closer to downtown
jennifer Apr 21, 2008
The hotel was nice enough, especially for the price. But, we found ourselves making the drive to downtown daily. If the cost ... difference isn't significant, and you plan to spend a lot of time in or near downtown, I would recommend just getting a closer hotel. But, The Pearl was a nice budget hotel. The good things were the price and the balcony. The drawbacks were there was little parking and the hotel restaurant did not serve breakfast.

Kelly Apr 1, 2008
The Pearl is a great little retro-type hotel, very centrally located. 5 minutes to Gas Lamp District, 10 min. to the zoo and ... 15 min to mission beach. Great staff, nicely appointed rooms ~ everyone has a pet fish in their rooms! Definatly for the younger crowd, little noisy at night but nothing too out of hand ~ better to just join in the fun!

Bruce Mar 15, 2008
was fine-bathroom was old school--a renovated hotel should renovate the bathroom as a part of the modernization....very ... tricky gettin into the hotel after hours, you need to be let in, and a person wasn't at the desk so I had to wait outside until noticed.

My review of The Pearl
Cayla Feb 16, 2008
I was very excited to stay at the Pearl in San Diego, until I got there. The people at the desk were busy and unfriendly. The ... only parking they offer is for vallet only and that costs $15, otherwise you have to find a spot on the street. The room was very small and not worth the price. Everything was clean. I would not stay there again.

Can do attitude
Fredrick Feb 13, 2008
I stayed at the Pearl for one night - the room was comfortable and the flat screen TV a plus. But what I will never forget ... was the front desk staff's can do attitude. I was not aware that American Airlines would not allow me to take my surfboard on the American Eagle from San Diego to San Jose. When I asked the front desk staff at the Pearl if they knew of any temporary storage options in the area - they offered to keep the surfboard secured till I got back two days later free of charge! I will definitely stay with them again.
