Since I am a woman traveling alone to London, I needed a nice hotel in a great location. I found this and more at the ... Mandeville Hotel. My room was well appointed, spotless, just what I needed. I also want to note the hotel's location is a five minute walk to the nearest tube station which is Bond Street. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay at the Mandeville and will definitely stay there again when I return to London.

Great location. Very nice hotel.

I liked The Mandeville Hotel and would definitely stay there again. The location at the base of Marylebone was fantastic. ... Oxford Street, with Selfridges and the Bond Street Underground, was just a couple of blocks away to the south, yet we were out of the hustle and bustle. The staff was courteous and the doorman found us taxis quickly when we needed them. The elevator was small but adequate. The double room was small, but that is to be expected. The room looked very nice, though the carpets were a little worn. The bed was comfortable and made up nicely. Lighting was good. The bathroom was well-sized. Flat-screen TV was quite small, but we weren't there to watch TV. There was free wifi in the lobby. We chose not to pay for room wifi as we weren't there very much. There was plenty of room to sit in the lobby. Up the street towards Marylebone, there were lots of local and good restaurants and shops. Down the next block toward Oxford Street was St. Christopher's Place with many more restaurants. We ate breakfast out every morning as the breakfast at the Mandeville was quite expensive, but there were plenty of cafes and local spots and a convenience store down the block for water, etc. We did not eat dinner there or go to the bar. There was no coffee or tea in the room. We had breakfast at James Rotisserie and Cafe, and at Paul Rothe & Sons, which was a great local spot. We ate at the Golden Hind for possibly the best fish and chips to be had. And we had tapas at La Tasca. All of these places were just a few minutes walk.

I chose this hotel for the near perfect location for my business. The room faced to the street but the noise was not an issue ... at the night. My single room was very small but there was a workable desk for my laptop. Bathroom was very clean and modern with bathtub and 2 shower heads. The bed was very comfortable. I did not eat in the hotel so I cannot comment on it.

my experience was very good overall. staff were efficient and courteous, facility was very attractive and meticulously ... maintained, and was very secure. I was on holiday and spent most of my time sightseeing and dining out, so I did not eat at the hotel at all. The only negative was the lighting in the room. The lights were either all on or all off (the small lights bedside were fairly useless) and the hairdryer was located in a very dim corner of the room, and the lighting was not adequate to see what I was doing.

okay hotel in good location

next door to the hotel is a music school. during the day, students were practicing playing the trompet or singing. I found ... that annoying. the elevator in the hotel is very slow and looks beat down (broken indicator lights, panels that are not attached well...). I often wondered if i would feel a shock of electricity touching the side of the elevator. the room was small (they called it an upgrade, so i wonder what the original room must have looked like) the hotels location is their strenght. If you are out all day, this is a good place to go.

Great Location, Nice Room, Good Service

holly1257 Oct 5, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

First, I loved the location. There are lots of cafes and pubs in the next block or two, and everything else is a bit further ... down the block on Oxford Street (ATMs, Starbucks, Boots, etc.) It's a five-minute walk to the Bond St. Station, yet Mandeville Place itself is a quiet street. The rooms are plush and comfortable; my Deluxe room was spacious with a wonderful bathroom that had a separate shower and the tub had a shower as well, which would make it nice for couples. Nice terry robes and slippers and extra large towels are nice, too. The bed and bedding felt luxurious and comfortable; the decor is sort of a smart contemporary, and I really liked the curtains and throw pillows. I was on the third floor facing the street and never felt noise was a problem; it was restful and quiet for the most part. There's a mini-bar with room for a bit of food, too. My only complaint was that the TV was a bit small to view comfortably from the bed, but I didn't watch too much TV since London is such a fun place. Also, it's nice to have a coffee/tea maker in the room, and this one didn't have it. The bar was nice for a cocktail in the evenings, too. I was very comfortable and enjoyed this hotel very much, and it felt like a wonderful value, as I got the upgraded double (Deluxe) at a total of $1080 for 4 nights.

Great Location, very friendly staff

DallasTraveler Oct 3, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

My wife and I stayed at the Mandeville for a week long London Vacation in September. First off, the location is fantastic. ... It is situated in an area filled with wonderful restaurants, cafes, and boutique shops and is just two blocks from the Oxford Street shopping district (Tons of stores from highend boutiques such as Gucci to more regularly priced stores such as H&M). We found the area to be very multi-cultural with Itailian, Turkish, Thai, Spanish tapas, French, and tradititional engligh restaurants, all within 3 -5 minutes walking distance. The staff at the Mandeville were extremely friendly and courtious. Ian the concierge was very helpful in giving dinner reccomendations in various areas of the city and was always spot on with cost vs. quality. Check in and check out was seamless and we were always greeted when coming and going from the hotel. Our room, a deluxe room, was very comfortable and spacious. The bed was nice and comfortable and even though we faced the street it was very quiet at night and we had no trouble sleeping. Our only complaint was that the carpet in the room could use a good steam cleaning. Lastly, wireless intenet in the room is expensive, however I found it very convienient to use the free wi-fi availing in the hotel lobby.

Spent 9 days there and the hotel was in a great location. The staff were very helpful and the rooms were taken care of ... exceptionally well. The "free" wifi is in the lobby which is tiny not in the rooms. I upgraded to a double bed room but the room was really small on the back of the building and not even large enough for a closet. The phones were expensive for local calls and you were charged even if you were called rather than if you just made a call. Also not by the call but they were timed. 91 pounds for a week of local calls. wow.Would stay there again but would disconnect the phone.

Lovely location

Happy Traveler Sep 25, 2009

Would recommend to a friend!

The hotel has been beautifully renovated and the rooms were small but very clean and pleasant. Our first room unfortunately ... overlooked an alley where there was a noisy bar but when we complained our room was changed immediately with apologies. We had asked for a room with twin beds but the hotel was full and we had only a queen-sized bed with no room to set up a cot. The service was superb with the friendly staff eager to fulfill our slightest requests. We did not have a continental breakfast included and the hotel restaurant was extremely expensive but right outside were charming restaurants and cafes, including a Dunkin Donuts and McDonald's (I know, but it was cheap). A very upscale location and near the Bond St. Underground. I would highly recommend it if you enjoy being spoiled.

Nice hotel in a great location

Phyl Sep 21, 2009

As a single female traveler, this was my first trip to London to sight see and experience the charm of the city. The ... Mandeville is located in a quaint and seemingly safe area where one can easily walk to some attractions, shopping, restaurants, bus tours and other transportation. All the staff were professional, efficient, and very friendly. Richard, the senior doorman and the congiere desk were most helpful with directions, maps, tickets, and dining tips. The single room was tiny yet exceptionally clean, well maintained, and had a pleasant decor with very nice bedding and towels. Since this was my first trip to the city. I can't compare this hotel to others but would definitely stay there again.

Just steps away there were many restaurants with most types of food at a reasonable price. They were all very good especially the Lebanese restaurant(in the ally behind the Mandeville). Since the weather was pleasant, many had outside tables with awnings or umbrellas.

Amazing hotel for couple getaway

This Boutique hotel was very charming on the inside and out. Cozy, modern designed room with amazing rooftop views of "old ... world London". Hotel staff was very professional and attentive. Perfect location that is near daytime shopping and dining. Metro station is about three blocks away and makes transport to any area of London quick and easy. If you are accustom to walking, the hotel is about a 15 min. walk to the SoHo area with all the wonderful nightlife. Walking is also a great way of seeing parts of the city you might have overlooked. Of course hotel doorman are more than helpful in hailing a cab if that is more your style.

Nightlife hint, Short Walk

The area around the hotel is very busy during the day and early evening. But nightlife dies at midnight, which makes late night entertaining/meals hard to come by. Hotel does have a quant hotel bar and latenight room service is available.

A modest restaurant called Tootsies offered traditional English food at a reasonable price. This restaurant is located on the corner of Picton and James street. I dined here several times during my stay. They serve breakfast, lunch and dinner.

The Golden Hind on 73 Marylebone Lane. Great fish and chips. BYOB with a wine/beer store right near by, and no corkage fee.

Skip the expensive breakfast at the Hotel and go to James St Rottiserie which has a fabulous full engligh breakfast with organic eggs, toast, sausage, bacon, etc. for less than 5 pounds. My wife loved their Fruit Salad and Eggs on Toast. Our total breakfast for two with coffee was always less than 18 pounds.

Go see Priscilla, Queen of the Desert - it's awesome. Get the Oyster Pass for transport - easy and great value. Get off the main drags and explore the smaller streets around the hotel. Check out Cabbages and Frocks market on Saturday!

Shopping hint, Short Walk

Shopping is a short walk from the hotel, including food halls (Marks & Spencer) to clothes shopping (very good for ladies) and cheap souvenirs. Internet Cafe is on Holles St off of Oxford St, next to John Lewis. Tons of excellent restaurants nearby, I ate very happily on this trip! Try Wagamama (noodle bar), James Rotisserie Cafe (breakfast cafe), Ayoush (African/Moroccan), John Lewis (afternoon tea including sandwiches and desserts for 10 pounds).

Dining hint, Short Walk

Cck and Lion Pub and Mimosa Restaurant are a block away and are wonderful and reasonably priced. There were many others as well, we just did not have the time to try any others.

--Bethannsd, La Costa, CA Sep 10, 2009

Dining hint, Short Walk

There is a restaurant row down the street with numerous good places and a variety of cuisines.

--lone traveler., New York City Sep 4, 2009

Recreation/Attractions hint, Short Walk

Check out both Regents and Hyde Park. Both are within walking distance of the hotel (maybe 15 minutes). The London Zoo is on the backside of Regents Park & it has performances during the weekends. Hyde Park has a lovely little pond and if you want to see something that is uniquely London, walk by Speaker's Corner on Sunday afternoon.
