Great service and room for the price
Molly Nov 7, 2009
My husband and I spent a night at this hotel, and we were looking for a place right outside of Waikiki to avoid some of the ... crowdedness. It was quiet and peaceful, yet only a 10 minute walk from Waikiki. The rooms were quite large. The bathroom was spacious and included a large vanity mirror with plenty of space to get ready. The bellhop was also very accomodating and had our car waiting for us when we were ready to checkout. Great overall experience.

Lotus at Diamond Head
Patrice Oct 27, 2009
We go to Hawaii once a year. We really enjoy the quiet Diamond Head side. We loved the large rooms with the VERY comfy beds. ... The Hotel was small and staff knew who you were and alway very helpful. The San Souci beach is a very safe place if you just want to swim without waves. Seems like it's mostly made up of locals vs. tourists. Each year we keep getting further away from the main strip, and this year we think we have found the spot we will revisit next year; Lotus at Diamond Head! If you are looking for lots of action with malls on the bottom floor of your hotel, this is not the place for you. It was very peaceful even with some added excitement of the TV show Lost being filmed in the hotel while we were there! Loved this place!

Parking is expensive but along the hotel there is ample public parking on the street and free after 6:00pm until 10:00am in the morning. The park has free events and beach is across the street.

Hotel in foreclosure
Disappointed Oct 5, 2009
We were very disappointed when we discovered this hotel was in foreclosure while reading the paper during our morning ... coffee. At no point did [...] let us know that this hotel had filed for bankruptcy. We were perplexed as to why the restaurant was not open and there was no one in the hotel, until we read this article in the star bulletin:http://www.starbulletin.com/business/20090530_Lotus_owner_files_for_bankruptcy.htmlNo pool, no direct beach access, no restaurant or room service. Do not stay here.

Off the beaten path gem
Eternal Kamaaina Jun 17, 2009
I was born and raised on Oahu and returned to attend a funeral and visit family. If you're looking for a nice hotel that is ... close to Waikiki and still on the beach, but away from all the congestion, this is the place. From my balcony, it was as if I could reach out and touch Diamond Head. From my bed, I had a perfect view (between two buildings) of the ocean. I left the shutters open during the night so I could awake to the view. Down below was the expanse of Kapiolani Park, birds singing and the sound of the waves. It just doesn't get much better. The restaurant has changed its hours and wasn't open during my visit. However, the Kaimana Hotel next door has a beautiful beach-front dining and bar area; you can get food early am until 9pm. I walked every morning from the hotel to Fort DeRussy, about an hour or so. If you enjoy good coffee, I suggest the Kona Coffee place at the historic Moana Hotel next to Kuhio Beach. A must for dinner is the upscale grill directly upstairs from Duke's restaurant. I had a swordfish and sunfish combo that was delectible. If you're ambitious, a walk from the hotel towards Diamond Head Beach is beautiful. Oh yes, the entire staff at the hotel is wonderfully gracious. It was worth spending the $15/day for the valet; you have in and out priviledges, so it's much easier.

Take a short walk towards Kuhio Beach on Friday and Saturday night to the bandstand area set up on the beach. There are free concerts which change weekly. Sometimes they include dance performances. Mostly locals attend as the city is trying to attract more Kamaainas back to Waikiki; you'll not be dissapointed.

Great to be near, but not IN the action
Bree May 20, 2009
What a great location! A lovely small hotel with beautiful decor. Close enough to walk to Waikiki (10 minute stroll through a ... lovely park) yet far enough to feel away from the hustle and bustle of the Waikiki strip. Diamond Head is very near to this hotel. I highly recommend a room with a view of Diamond Head and a partial ocean view (that way you get the best of both worlds. The bed was extremely comfortable (all down bedding). Staff were excellent and willing to go the extra mile! Take a taxi if walking back to the hotel from Waikiki when dark. As in ANY place, it is never safe to walk through a park late at night especially if alone. This is not meant to give the impression that this is a bad area(quite opposite in fact). It is a very nice part of Waikiki. Many families, walkers, joggers, etc. however at night it has the potential to become dangerous due to the many large banyon trees and dimly lit lights.

THE LOTUS IS NOT A 4 STAR HOTEL
RUNNER May 2, 2009
WHEN WE FIRST ARRIVED AT THE AIRPORT NO ONE WAS FAMILIAR WITH THE HOTEL BECAUSE THE HOTEL RECENTLY CHANGED ITS NAME FROM "THE ... W" TO "THE LOTUS AT DIAMONDHEAD". WE HAD TO CALL ORBITZ TO GET THE ADDRESS OF THE HOTEL FOR A DRIVER TO TAKE US THERE. WE PAID AN EXTRA $120 FOR AN OCEAN VIEW AND DID NOT HAVE A FULL VIEW OF THE OCEAN. WE HAD TO GO ON THE BALCONY TO SEE IT LOOKING TO THE RIGHT. HAD TO ASK FOR TOWELS A COUPLE OF TIMES. ALSO HAD TO ASK FOR SOAP EVEN THOUGH HOUSEKEEPING CLEANED THE ROOM EVERDAY. WE HAD CHECKED INTO THE HOTEL LATE AT AROUND 6PM ON 4/23/09. BUT THEY CHARGED US $1OO FOR A LATE CHECKOUT AND HAD THE NERVE TO RUSH US OUT OF THE ROOM AFTER WE WERE BEING CHARGED. MIND YOU, WE LEFT IN A CAB THAT WE REQUESTED AT 2:30PM. THE HOTEL HAD NO POOL OR FITNESS CENTER. IT HAD NO DIRECT ACCESS TO THE BEACH. WE HAD TO GO THROUGH ANOTHER HOTEL TO GET TO THE BEACH. THE GOOD THING WAS THAT THE HOTEL IT WAS A 15 MINUTE WALK AWAY FROM THE MAIN HOTEL STRIP AND THERE WAS FREE PARKING ON THE STREET IF YOU HAD A CAR INSTEAD OF PAYING FOR $15 A DAY VALET PARKING.
