Just what you need.
Zubin Oct 14, 2009
The Keating is located in the heart of downtown San Diego's Gaslamp Quarter, walking distance from the Convention Center, the ... major hotels, plenty of dining and pubs and nightlife. The design of The Keating is very modern - in fact it was designed by the guys who work for Ferrari. The rooms have exactly what you need: flat screen TV with HD satellite, free wifi, a roomie shower, a warm bed and cookies when you get into bed! It's small and quaint but has a great city vibe to it. Well price as well.

Night was ok...
TJ Aug 17, 2009
This hotel was...ok...I was expecting the hotel to be nicer, but I guess I shouldn't expect a whole lot for the ... amount...$175/night. There's no shower doors, you can clearly hear transportation (buses, train, and any ambulances). There isn't a place to eat breakfast, as the hotel's restaurant does not open till 5 pm. Although, there are great restaurants surrounding the area, and it's best to go out and about to see the surrounding areas anyway. Valet was incredibly slow. The check-in staff are pretty unenthusiastic about being there. However, on the good side, the bed was very comfortable, and the sheets were so soft. The expresso machine is a nice touch, but it would've been nice to have a little instructional place card. Overall, the experience was ok. Nothing to really rave about, but nothing very negative either.

NY style in San Diego

The hotel reminded me of NYC hotels- built in 1890 but renovated into a hip, modern hotel. Rooms are small but cozy and ... stocked with top of the line, TV and CD system (Bang & Olufsen).

Hip & Cool but Not Worth Downsides
Jimmy Blackstone May 26, 2009
Hip boutique hotel - the room was spacious and contemporary with exposed brick walls and a great walk-in shower. There was ... no spa, which was disappointing and no lobby to speak of, but the service was good. The minibar was lightly stocked and grossly overpriced ($240 for a bottle of Grey Goose) but the staff was quick to bring whatever was needed that may not have been in the room (cranberry juice and soda in my case). I read a few reviews and was aware of the noise issue - and it is an issue. There was a jazz concert across the street and even though i was on the fourth floor, it sounded as if i were backstage. The gaslamp is never quiet, so bring along a few ambien and prepare for sirens, garabage pickup and partygoers making noise pretty much all night and all morning ... and as long as you dont have alot to do the next day...you'll be just fine.

Orbitz has terrible customer service
Sarah May 24, 2009
We never even got to check into the hotel. When we went to the front desk to check in the hotel never had a reservation for ... us. When I called customer service for Oritz, they were no help to us. Orbitz has the reservationbut never sent it to the hotel. They told me that I had o find my own hotel and that I could check in after 10pm. Crazy right?? Well Oritz apparently didnt think so. The only thing they could do for us was refund our money. I am extremely dissapointed in Orbitz. Shame on you Orbitz!!

Stay only if you don't plan on sleeping
Nina Oct 29, 2008
I stayed at this hotel while in town for a conference. Although the idea of this boutique hotel is great, as is the ... location. My room, even though I was on the top floor, was so incredibly noisy on account of the nightclubs, bars and people out on the street below at all hours that a sound night of sleep was impossible. When I finally began to dose off around 3:30am, I was awoken by the trash cans being emptied and glass bottles smashing outside my room around 6am. When I complained about the noise and questioned why the window aren't double paned (which they are not), I was told that this was because the hotel is a historical building and they can't change the windows to make it more quiet in the rooms. If you are in town to party--this is a great spot, but if you want to get a full night of rest, don't even think about it.

To be YOUNG again!!!
William Oct 26, 2008
Our four night stay at The Keating in San Diego was an experience we hope not to repeat any time soon. Now that my wife and ... I are in our 50's we no longer enjoy staying up all night as was required by staying in this hotel. The street parties were going pretty strong through 3:00 a.m. each night with our room right above the street. Also, I must admit when we were younger we would probably like the idea of having the four sided glass shower in the center of the room with no walls or privacy. After 30 years of marriage this feature offered in The Keating was a waste and not needed! I can only wish I were younger and single that would have allowed me to take full advantage of this unique feature offered in this hotel. The complimentary continental breakfast offered was not available two of the mornings due to the person in charge of this facility not making it to work on two of the mornings. Would recommend that your hotel find someone to back up the person in charge of this facility OR no longer offer something to your customers that you cannot deliver upon. That was the highlight of our stay at The Keating.

Very Noisy place; rude Front desk
Kim Sep 21, 2008
the price was right for the GasLamp district, so i thought. there are bars on the bottom floor & all around the hotel that ... play right thru your hotel windows (yes, they were closed windows, too) into the early morning hours. Your bed is vibrating from the bass/music. If you need to sleep for a conference, as i did, it is not a good choice. the front desk personnel are too busy on their own cell phones & personal conversations with friends to help out. Don't even try to call down for wake up call, or questions...they never answer the phone, or it's always busy...they do personal calls on that line, too (she did tell her boyfriend she'd have to call him back when i went down to front desk personally. when i did get through to front desk & requested wake up call...i never got my wake up call...& was late to my meeting! i do not recommend this hotel for the above reasons, but it may be suitable if you're out all hours of the night, & aren't there to sleep anyhow!

Heart of the Gaslamp District
Mark Sep 17, 2008
We had a great stay at the Keating. Very European in style, it is in the heart of the Gaslamp District, with lots of dining ... and several nightlife options nearby. We had a room in the back and experienced no noise issues. Centrally located - we walked to Petco, walked to the Bay, and took a bus (no transfers) to the Zoo. We would definitely stay again.

Keating is greatly located in the heart of the Gaslight district. Area is fantastic. kRecently remodeled in deco/european ... design. Not my choice but for some would be quite quaint. Did not like the concrete floors and see thru showers with no doors, very wet on floor. Beds were great and service excellent.

The Keating is a very cool hip hotel. The room was sleek and high tech - plasma screen HDTV, Bang and Olufson phones, iPod ... speaker on alarm clock, remote control lights and espresso machine. Bed was very comfortable and plenty of closet space. Located in Gaslamp District close to lots of restaurants and the Horton Plaza mall. Easy walk to Petco Field and the Convention Center. Staff very friendly and helpful. Would love to go back.

Very upscale. Modern but comfortable. Service was impeccable but sedated. We were greeted and given an update for the room ... and our stay by the concierge for approx 15 minutes. Amazing. Location was ideal. Walking distance to everything. I would recommend this hotel to anyone wanting a spectacular, yet relaxing stay. No pool or hot tub, but not a big deal at all. Loved it!!
