The hotel is quite new and built to be on a scale with the Grand Canyon, which is a mile away. It feels like a lodge. The ... rooms are large, very comfortable bed, good restaurant in the hotel for dinner and breakfast. Outstanding breakfast. They welcomed our dog and us. There is a gift shop and coffee bar, as well as a full bar. The best choice if you travel with a pet.

Wow ....I was unsure of where to book for a side trip from Las Vegas to the Grand Canyon.....Was I suprised at how nice the ... Grand Hotel was.....Nice rustic hotel with log decor and clean rooms.....free breakfast with my room and wonderful hot tub and workout facility. Parking was easy and it was convenient to the Canyon Rim, IMAX Theater, and great evening steaks at the yippe-I-oh Steak House and BBQ. I would suggest this property to anyone that travels to the Grand Canyon South Rim

Reasonable good restaurant in the hotel. Trying the local cuisine (Buffalo) was a first for me. Lots of fast food places within walking distance from the hotel - MacDonalds, Wendy's - and a local diner across the street. The National Geographic IMAX theater about a block down the road showed a stunning historical and visual perspective of the Grand Canyon.

Expected A Little More for the Price

Primary purpose was to visit the Grand Canyon South Rim. Drove right past the hotel even though I was using a GPS. The GPS ... directed me to a location INSIDE the park, which was incorrect The only positive of that was that I paid for my park entry fee the evening I arrived which made the next 2 days entry into the park quicker (the park had 2 entry lines specifically for prepaid/already paid park visitors). After driving out of the park to locate the hotel I noticed that another reason why I had missed it was that the hotel sign out front was not lit (I had a late arrival at about 8PM).

Convenience over experience
Hurricane Heather Jul 30, 2009
The train was an interesting, and unique way to explore the canyon. my kids loved the stage show, and the staged robberies ... as well. the layout of the property was confusing. check-in was a disaster - far too many guests with far too few check-in staff.

Very comfortable and clean - great value
Susan M May 10, 2009
We first booked a room at Maswick Lodge at Grand Canyon National Park. When I realized the lodge didn't have any real ... amenities to speak of, I canceled and booked a room at The Grand. My 10 year old son loved the pool and spa area, and the beds and room were very comfortable. They also have wireless access. The room was quiet and clean and tastefully done. The front desk staff were very professional and pleasant. I felt they took pride in being part of the staff. The hotel has an 'express checkout' system which works really well. The hotel is nestled in the tiny community of Tasuyan. There are a couple of fast food restaurants, and a handful of smaller independent restaurants, a general store, the Imax Theater and many several other hotels. It is a 3-5 minute drive to the park entrance, and then another 5 minute drive to the rim. If I go back to the Grand Canyon I will absolutely stay here again as my first choice. It was a nearly perfect stay.

We were only there for one night and didn't get there till 10PM. So we did not get to take advantage of the amenities. It was ... very beautiful and clean. The staff were friendly and helpful. We were going to the Grand Canyon, so it was a perfect location for that. The only problem we had was finding it. We didn't have and address to plug into the GPS or mapquest. It just says hwy 64. So we couldn't judge how close we were till we actually got there. But it was very nice hotel, that I would like to go back to if I had more time.

Only negative remark that I would have was that the cost was a little pricey and the upolstered chair in the room was ... desperately in need of cleaning. The staff was superior and very helpful. The evening meals in the dining room were tasty and there was entertainment while you ate. A fun experience!

Vacation Lodge
LILY May 23, 2008
The hotel and location for seeing the Grand Canyon was one of the nicest, in the area. It had a feel of a Lodge in the ... mountains, which is what we were looking for. It was very clean and comfortable. We stepped out onto the balcony to take in the outside fresh air which was very crisp. If you didn't choose to eat at the hotel restaurant, which provided a show while you dinned, you could drive down the street, there were a lot to choose from. We would defiantly recommend it to anyone.

Overpriced sightseeing
Wendi Mar 27, 2008
The Grand Hotel is a very basic hotel with minimal amenities despite the description on line. The room was a typical low end ... room with basic items and decor. The restaurant food was less than average which was a shame given that the Grand Canyon area has very little to offer outside of the park. A family sitting next to us complained about their dinners (chicken) were undercooked. Instead of immediately replacing the food the cook actually came to their table and argued that the chicken was fine for consumption. The staff seemed overwhelmed as it was spring break and the hotel seemed to be at capacity. The rate was very high for the room, which I am sure was due to time of year. Upon our return from a day of touring at 8pm we found our room had not been cleaned that day. This was an inconvenience to our family which included young children. The hotel has the potential to be a nice destination if you are unable to obtain a reservation inside of the park itself. They need to improve the staff at the desk, the food at the restaurant and service of the guests.
Traveler type: Family
Decide to visit the Grand Canyon with months to spare and you can stay inside the park with comparable amenities for a considerable price differential. The McDonalds was a familiar place to eat. However, the prices were higher than the McDonalds in Hawaii and many other places. You could choose Wendy's across the street and save several dollars.
