Your visit to Malahide Castle includes a guided tour with time to wander around the craft shops and castle grounds, which span some 250 acres. Malahide, which means "On the brow of the sea," is a village nine miles north of Dublin. The castle is close to the village and is built overlooking the bay. It was both a fortress and a private home for nearly eight hundred years, and is surrounded by many magnificent oaks, chestnuts and sycamores dating to the days of the Tudors. The house is furnished with beautiful period furniture together with an extensive collection of Irish portrait paintings.
The trail back to Dublin includes a 10 minute stop at Howth summit for breathtaking views of the Bay. The Howth peninsula is situated to the north of Dublin Bay, 15kms from Dublin city centre.
